Chapter 36: Chapter 36

Awake

While Eamon slept in his room, he slept beside her that night. Holding her tightly to himself as if she was gonna disappear from his sight.

Is it that obvious of her predicament. That she isn't human, her scars and skin and her hair. He didn't know what to say it Eamon when he asked that question, he didn't want to lie to him.

He said he would tell him everything after she's awake, because now he isn't himself.

The night went by slowly, he had slept halfway through the night. Singing the song he wrote for her. With her hands clasped in his. And her head on his shoulders. He had to do something, what is she could hear him. What if she was listening.

He didn't want her to feel she was alone, he was with her in this, they were together. If she does, he'll die too.

He was certain about that, reasons he won't let her. Because he value his life a lot. And there's no life without her in it.

“Good morning Dixon.”

“Green you're still here?” Dixon walked blindly into the kitchen to get himself a cup of coffee. He rubbed his eyes, pushing his hair off his face. He brewed himself a coffee and sat on the island, drinking it.

Dr.Green walked in. Leaning by the door.

“I made breakfast,”

“I don't think I've any appetite for that. Eamon would eat, I'll be off to the hospital, this morning, I need to check on them.”

“You should eat, even if its just a slice.”

“I’m fine.”

“You didn't eat last night, she's worried you might get sick. And when he wakes, you won't be able to take care of her. So you have to eat so she could wake faster.”

“I want to eat too but..”

“Dixon don't be stubborn and take a bite. She's not gonna die.” Eamon chipped in. Entering the kitchen and took the cup of coffee Dixon was drinking and chugged it down.

“Arg! You should have made yours. I was enjoying it.”

“That’s why I had to drink it. I make you own.”

“No, thanks.”

He stood up.

“I’ll get going..” he walked out of the kitchen.

“He’s stubborn isn't he?”

“That’s Dixon for you. While I'm starving, heard you made breakfast.”

“Yeah, but not for you.”

“I could eat Dixon piece then.”

“You should go eat in your parents house.”

“Not like this is your house either.”

Green glare at him. Showing him his teeth.

Eamon gave him a coy smile.

“I ain't gay brother.”

“Never said you were. You ain't my type either.”

“Yeah, I know, Dixon is.”

“How did you know?”

“That you're gay?”

“Hum.”

“I ain't called Dr. Green for no reason.” he sat down.

“Your parents hated you because of it. Never wanted you to be a gay, but straight, they didn't visit you in prison because they thought it would be a better punishment for you to change from being gay, they knew you didn't kill the man. And just as they hate you, you hate yourself just as much. Trying so much to hide the fact that you're gay.. You wanted to be straight, but couldn't. And when you saw Dixon. You liked him.”

“Who are you exactly?”

“I just told you, I'm Dr. Green. Not an ordinary doctor though. A different type.”

“You knew exactly how my life was.”

“And I knew how it's gonna be.”

“How is it gonna be?”

“Freedom from your own self, happiness you never did experience before and love.”

“How do you know all that.”

“Are you that dumb, I've been saying this a thousand times already, I'm Dr. Green. The original. There isn't any other Green expect me, others are counterfeit.”

“Meeting Dixon was fate. I know you're glad you did.”

He smiled softly.

“Do you think he noticed?”

“That you're..”

“Yeah.”

“I’m sure he did notice but doesn't wanna talk about it. You're clinging to him in prison. It won't be that hard to find out. But he just didn't wanna question you or ask about you. He sees you as a brother.”

“I know. Never knew I could get exposed so quickly.”

He walked to the brewing machine, making himself a coffee.

“Your parents won't accept you back. You should stay here with us. The house is big enough.”

“I don't wanna be a burden to him. And I knew they won't. They didn't even want to see my face. Sometimes wondering if its a crime to be gay.”

“You’re parents are black. It isn't your fault most parents feel that way to. Like its abnormal but it's not. It's being you. It just how you were created. And the part of being a burden i have a way.”

“What way.”

“Work for him, here in the house. You could drive. Drive the car sometimes.”

“I’m gay, what if...”

“I know..”

They twitched their head towards the door.

Dixon. He was already dressed in a causal dressed. A jean and polo shirt.

“You should keep your voices down. You're too loud.”

He ambled to the fridge and took a bottled water from it. Uncap and drank from it.

“We spend two years together. I wasn't stupid. I don't have a problem with it either. And the part of you staying here I don't have a problem either but you'll have to talk to the owner of the house.” he turned to Green.

Dropping the papers he was holding in his hands on the table.

“You won't believe what I found.”

“What is it?”

“See for yourself. I was checking through the drawers for my key. And that was when I saw it.”

“She owns this house!”

“It has her name on it. Maeve Carter.”

“Is it the Carter we all know, the one time billionaire?” Damon asked with his mouth wide open.

“I think so, the mother is Mare.”

“I can't believe I sent her out of her own house. I was so stupid! Dang it! A house that wasn't even mine.”

“I thought you bought it.”

“For five dollars.”

Eamon laughed.

“You should pack and leave before she wakes maybe it's her turn to throw you out”

“Shut up, mon. I'm late. I need to go to come back early. See you guys in the evening.”

He took the water along with him and hurried out of the house, they heard the door open and closed.

“He’s gone.”

“Yeah.” Green took his eyes back to the document. Maeve Carter.

If she was the daughter of Carter, that means, the woman ms Teresa who died was her nanny. And the people who killed her father was those three bloody men, Albert, Peru and Lucas.

Albert. Dixon’s father.

He was getting his own share anyway. And the only man standing was the enemy of them all, Peru!

The bastard.

He was the reason she was like this if he hadn't sent his men to kill Dixon and his brother.

He clutched his fist.

That man..

“Let’s eat.” Eamon announced. He noticed he was angry, his mood has changed. He had to bring up food to sheer his thoughts away from whatever got him so angry.

“Are you gonna eat without me, I'm starving!” she whines by the door.

“Maeve!”

“Angel!”

Green looked at him.

“Angel? Huh?”

“I mean Maever.”

Green shook his head.

“Eve!” she chuckled at him. And he smiles at her admiring her beauty. She was so beautiful, how can someone like her be human. Last night she wasn't as glowing as this, her smiles got him off-guard.

No wonder was absolutely trapped in her love.

Who won't love someone like her? Expect him cause he's gay.

“Ignore him.” he pulled her into a hug.

“You woke up, don't ever do this again.” he warned.

“I promise. Where is Dixon?”

“He left a while ago. To the hospital. His father is in there badly sick.”

“Oh!”

“Come seat. I'll serve you breakfast.”

“I want meat. The crave is driving me crazy, cow meat. Fresh one.”

“Eamon, you've got to buy what the lady wants.”

“You’re Eamon?”

“Yes my lady.”

“When did you get out?”

“Yesterday.”

For someone who was dying last night to someone energetic now, something is fishy he could tell.

She's not a human.

Hours later

Maeve cried on Dr. Green shoulders. Wetting his sweater with blood. He pat her back tenderly.

She had eaten, after Eamon bought the beef. She was burning with the urge not to grab them from his hands and eat them raw. But Dixon warned not to do it anymore it would make people suspicious of her. And could get him In trouble and she doesn't want Dixon to get into trouble because of her. So she waited till he cooked it.

She went back to her room after to with Dr. Green beside her. They sat on the bed. Several emotions she couldn't decipher run through her.

"I don't want to leave him"

"It's okay you can't change it"

"But I wasn't born like this. Those inhuman made me like this I want to be human green I don't wanna die"

She cried harder.

He pat her.

Consoling her in the way he can.

"You have to tell him everything. You need to let him know "

"I can't "

She whimpered.

Holding him tightly.

"I can't bring myself to tell him, I just can't do it"

"It's okay you're gonna get through this. I would have done it but it would be better if you tell him everything yourself "

Sniffing she pulled away from him, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.

"Am gonna do it"

"I don't have much time left anyway "

"I'll be here if you need help"

She sniffed again.

"I got this "

"I'll set up a date for us. I'll let him know. I'll tell him everything."

Dr. Green nodded.

"He will be home soon. Put a smile on your face okay "

"I'll do that "

"We got this "

She nodded forcing a smile on her face. But it only end up looking like a grimace.

“There’s a way for you to be human again.”

“There is?”

Her eyes lit up.

“A sacrifice of love one. Someone who loves you more than anything has to die for you to be human.”

“Someone who loves me?”

“Yeah.”

“Dixon.” they both knew the answer to her.

“No, I can't let him kill himself for me, never let him do that. I would die if I had to. I'll disappear from his life. I won't let him end his life because of me.”

He wipe the blood off her face.

“Don’t tell him. Don't let him know of the sacrifice of death.”

“But..”

“We never talked about this.”

"Come freshen up.."

He pulled her off her feet.

He pushed the door open and got in. Shutting it behind him. He was tired, his eyes were spinning in front of him, he would have eaten when he had gotten the chance to. Albert was sleeping all through his visit and Linda was asleep before he left all she did was cry and cry. Turning towards the room his eyes gleamed. The bags falling from his hands. He had bought some clothes and shoes for her and there she was. Staring at him with a smile.

She was awake!

She here smiling at him with a bowl of cereal not like she was eating them.

"Maeve!"

He ran to her, lifting her up her feet. And spin her around.

She giggled.

Holding him tightly.

"You woke up"

She nodded her head at him.

He place her feet on the ground.

Then quickly embraced his lips on hers.

"Hum--"

Dr. Green coughed and looked away from them.

"I think I should better leave you guys alone "

“There’s no need for that.”

Maeve said pulling away from Dixon. Who never wanted to.

"I don't think he wants that.."

He gestured towards Dixon.

Maeve laughed and tugged his arm playfully. Dixon smile pulling her into his arms again.

"I missed you so much "

He kissed her again.

****

They sat down discussing about everything they could think of and none of them wanted to leave. The diner.

"So What was your father like."

"Are you sure you want to talk about it?" Green asked

"Sure."

He nodded.

"My father was very strict with us while growing up and already had our future planned out. He was this mighty and strong man that everyone fears..."

"He wanted me and Bruce to go into his business with him. I didn't want to and am sure Bruce wasn't interested in it either.

He didn't like that we weren't going his way.

He changed after that"

"And now the almighty Albert Ambrose is dying "

He looked away.

"Dying "

Maeve coughed at that. Suddenly feeling guilty. He was dying, just the same way she was dying. They are both gonna leave him.

"He was poisoned "

She turned him to face her.

And cupped his cheeks.

"Let's go on a date tomorrow "

"I've something to tell you.”

"All I want is for you to be beside me. Don't ever do this to me again. Don't you dare leave my sight.”

She nodded

“Where is Eamon?”

“Sleeping.”

"It's just 5days left"

Dr. Green said softly. Bring his head down to his feet.
