Chapter 30: Chapter 30

Linda didn't mean to eavesdrop on their conversation, a week ago, he had heard them talk about a girl. she couldn't just help the burning curiosity inside of her.

Who was the girl they talked about. Why was Albert so keen on finding her?

It has only leave her more confused and perplexed.

Was this the connection they both had, Peru and her husband, because of the girl. Who was she?

What exactly is going on. He made mention of her killing Lucas, if she did killed Lucas why was he so interested in her, why does her want to end her so badly?.

And there was only one way to find out. Or she shouldn’t, but she was curious to know who the girl was and what has she done to her husband. The even his voice quavers a little when they were talking about her.

She had to find out, and if she does find out, what next, report to the police, won’t that seems so foolish of her to do.

What would she do, if she did find the girl.

She wrapped her hands over her pajamas, and sips the hot tea. It was still early. She couldn’t sleep she had been so bothered about it. And she doesn’t know why, Albert didn’t come out of his study last night. She’d knocked several times he refused to open up. Demanding He needed to be alone. Which baffles her.

He didn’t eat dinner either.

She had offered to bring the dinner to his room but he didn’t open up either.

Maybe she could try this morning, if he would open the door. If he doesn’t, she might as well decides to break it. That’s if he doesn’t up open before the end of the day.

She sips from it, and dropped it.

Her sins were unforgivable, reasons Dixon still couldn’t forgive her.

She exhaled.

It was never her intention to kill his first love, she knew he loved her, the girl from his senior year in college but she was unworthy of him. People from the lower class won’t do any good to him. That was what she thought until she died in her hands. He hated her from that moment.

While all she was thinking about was her son, she didn’t want her to hurt him.

She didn’t want him to get hurt. She had to come into his love life and eventually she destroyed it.

How could Dixon forgive her.

She suddenly desires for some alcohol.

Maybe it could help. Forget about the awful memories of her past.

Right now, she only cares about her son, Dixon, to forgive her. But, it doesn’t seems like that would happen anytime soon.

"Mom!"

"Mom!"

Bruce yelled on her face.

"Down to earth, mother "

"Ohh Bruce!"

She exclaimed.

"What were you thinking?”

“Is that a good morning,”

“What difference does it make. What were you thinking.” He drew out a chair and sat down, taking a gulp from Linda’s tea.

“Sad stuff of my past. I had with Dixon, I felt bad, seeing him cried that night. I felt awful as a mother, I had never being a good mother to him, that’s why I’m trying so hard to try and fixed it. But I don’t know what else to do.”

“Why waste your time thinking about it. He would forgive soon. I believe it won’t be long anymore. Everyone make mistakes, you shouldn’t count yourself worse. Even Dixon himself to makes mistakes, we just have to correct them. As far as we’ve come to accept our mistakes.”

For the past years, he had saw and watched their mother change and began reflecting on her actions.

She eyed him suspiciously. And folded her hands.

“Is this Bruce? Or someone else, what happened to my stubborn son.”

She ran her hands over him.

“C’mon Mom, it’s still me.”

“Oh I see, you need some money, look you’re all dressed up. Where are you off to? No wonder you were saying all that. Now I get it. Because the Bruce I know wouldn’t say that.”

“Just a few cash to go over to where Dixon’s car is.”

“And where is that?”

“Somewhere far from the town.”

"What about the money you stole, from the company.”

He rolled his eyes.

"I'll pay back "

"You always do.”

“Then tell dad to unfroze my account.”

“I’m giving you this, because you’re getting along with your brother.”

“Not like I’ve a choice do, you’ll murder me if I don’t.”

She slaps his shoulders. He chuckled.

He chugged down the entire tea and dropped the cup.

"I'll be home quick. Where’s the old man?”

“Old man, he’s more stronger than you. Moron.” She tried to hit him, but he ducked. Jumping up from the chair.

“I haven’t seen him, I just hope he doesn’t come out of there.”

“Don’t you say that he’s my husband.” She glares at him.

“He sure is..”

“Get out Bruce..Don’t stay too late.”

She stole a glance down to the door of the study.

Bruce huffed irritably.

"I won't, I’ll be back, before you got up from the chair you’re on.”

“You can go upstairs to my room and get it from..”

Bruce smiled waving the card on the air for so she could see them, he had got them already.

“You already had it.”

“I already did.” His smiled widen.

“I won’t too much. I would just leave a few cashes for you.”

“I’ll strangle you. If you dare.”

He laughed walking out.

Seeing she was alone, and Bruce was gone she picked up her phone, pulling a call through a certain number.

"Hello Black "

"Ma'am"

"I want you to look into something for me, you have to be snappy and accurate with it"

"On your service ma'am "

"Am giving you twice your pay, that's how serious and urgent I need it"

"Alright ma'am "

"Find Everything about Lucas murder, the girl in his custody then, I want to know everything about it

And most especially,

Find the girl "

“Yes ma’am.”

She hanged up. And stood up, walking towards the door of the study. She knocked just once and his deep baritone voice replied.

“Go away Linda.”

“Albert, Let’s have breakfast.”

“Go away Linda...”

she leaned on the door. More reasons she needs to find out who the girl was. Was she in any way the reason why he was like this.

She had to find out.

She pulled away from the door. And walked over to the cellar, bringing out a bottle of vodka.

To clear her head off these thoughts.

*******

He took long strides in the dark room, she couldn't see anything else except the heavy boots he wore.

She was thrown over his shoulders.

Her tiny hands and feet was bonded. Still yet she held tightly to a small pink teddy bear. Like her life saver

Standing in front of a small cage, he hurled her into it, took a nail and an hammer. And began hitting the nail into the wood.

Caging her completely.

"Be good little girl, it's not gonna hurt you "

She opened her eyes fearfully and saw the small dim eyes watching her under those uncomfortable gaze, on his both cheek was a deep cut which was still appears to be newly cut.

"Let me out please "

"I can't do that, be good if you wanna live "

"Please, i can't stay here"

“I want to meet my daddy. I want to go back home.”

She whimpered but his back was already against her. He took a black cloth and cover the cage with it.

"Don't ever forget the name Lucas....”

“Am scared “

“You ought to be, listen little girl, I only follow instructions “

He poked his hands into her eyes via the black cloth..

“Aargh!!”

******

"Wake up, Maeve, wake up, c’mon will you?”

She jerk up, gasping for breath.

"Are you okay?"

She shakes her head severally. Still trying to get her breath.

“What’s wrong, you can tell me, am here for you Maeve “

“It was a bit of my memory coming back” she breathed out.

“What’s was it about “

She exhaled.

Wrapping her hands over herself.

“It was someone, maybe Lucas. Am not so sure”

"What did he do?"

"He caged a little girl and injected her, move her over to his basement after a couple of months, stripped her off her clothes, for years she was without any.

And he kept injecting her every single day, so she would forget who she was, who she's gonna be and made her into something he wants.

A demon”

Her fist tighten into a ball.

"Why they had to make her suffer for years, made her miserable.

Just why?

All she ever wanted was to be human "

“You’ve been through a lot Maeve, am really sorry for all the pains you’ve been through”

Dixon pulled her into a hug. Her eyes got wet but not with tears but blood, she wiped them off quickly so he didn't get to see it.

"Lucas was a very respected paranormal researcher, never knew he could do such a thing as you said and same with Anika, heard she's been missing ever since Lucas death"

"She better keeps on hiding, I don't want to see her again, I might finish what I started "

She sniffed.

"I don't want to lie to you Dixon,

I killed Lucas in a very horrible way, just like the corpse you saw, it wasn’t intentional at first I had felt so guilty and scared of what I did at that time but I did what was right. Someone like he doesn't deserve to life.”

Dixon didn't know what to say at the moment so he kept mute and just watched her for a while.

Then pulled her into a hug again.

"It's okay Maeve "

He felt her hugged him back.

"Come on we have a long day today "

He disengage from the hug.

"Where are we going?"

"You will know when we get here. I made lunch already, come on"

Maeve nodded, standing up from the bed.

"Ain't you gonna ask me?"

"What?"

She paused her lips, staring down at her toes, he almost laughed at her but restrained himself.

He held her chin, lifting them so see could look at him.

"As long as you remain Maeve, I'll always be right beside you”

She hugged him at once.

He felt the blush, creeping up on his cheeks.

And didn't hesitate to hug her back.

“I’ll wait for you downstairs.”

She nodded and pulled away from him. And watched him. Leave the room. With a smile on his face.

He’s been trying to talk to Bruce for an hour now, and his phone keeps on ringing without he picking up the call. He was worried what's wrong with him, why wasn't he picking his calls, he was making him worried.

“Why are you looking so tense?”

“Its Bruce, he isn't picking his calls.”

“Maybe he isn't with his phone. Dropped it somewhere or something.”

“It isn't like him. He's always with his phone. Could something had happened to him.”

“Nothing would happen.” she ensure him, taking a seat beside him.

He smiled and kissed her cheek. And took her hands in his.

He kissed it.

She placed her head on his shoulders.

“I’m sure he's fine.”

“I hope so.”

****

He was standing, facing the wall, a man was standing in front of a mirror, having similar figures with that of a familiar man they knew, appealing shaving cream to his face. Behind his thin lips was a smile, a bad at that. He was waiting for orders, let him say the words, huge with hefty muscle, the only significant thing on him was a cut on his both cheeks with was appear to be an old scar.

The man in front of the mirror crossed his hands at his back, he was near yet his voice sound so distant.

"He has left home right?"

"Yes boss. We already have men, stalking him. I would give them the others now to pursuit him. And not let him out of sight.”

"You Go after him, make sure he call his brother before attacking him. Am sure he's definitely gonna call him"

"Alright boss"

"Then you know what to do to Bruce and his brother, you did it before so it will be a lot more easier since the fear is still in there.

"And this time around I want one of them dead, be it Dixon or Bruce. One mustn't live.”

He smiled wryly.

“Albert is going through a lot now, just a little tough and he's gonna fall. Dead.”

He chuckled.

“You’re already ruin Albert. And there's no one to save you or your sons. Ha-ha.”

*****

Dixon tried calling again, and he picked the call, he sat upright, placing his phone on his ear.

“Where the fuck are you, I've been calling you, why ain't you picking your damn call.”

"Di—Dixon, he—lp, am d—d—dying "

"Hold on Bruce, where the hell are you "

"Am cl--ose to....."

The next word was a faint whisper but Dixon grab what he said, cause he knew the place.

And the phone was ripped off Bruce hands.

He heard the sound, he was being chased. Someone was after his brother.

"Maeve!"

He clutch her hands tightly, pulling her along with him off the couch as they ran out of the house to meet up with Bruce..
