Chapter 25: Chapter 25
Dixon stare at his brother as he held the door. Trying to fix the pieces together. Why was he here, was he, perhaps the so called awaiting boss. Bruce owns this industry.
Right.
Just perfect. Reasons why he was offered the contract several times.
“Hello brother.”
“Aish!” Dixon snarled. Withdrawing his hands from the door. Running them over his hair.
“This is insane!”
Bruce enters fully, with a plain smirk.
“No way I’m working for you, no way.”
“We could make a perfect team, you and I, you should be grateful I’m trying to help, having you in my business. No one would like to employ you you know, you’re not just a murderer, you’re an ex-con as well.”
“Plain mockery” Dixon chuckled.
“You need to man up!”
“Really?”
“Help yourself. That’s what I meant, I’m just trying to help, you sing and I produce. Easy.”
“I don’t need you, Bruce, I don’t need your sick business.”
He made way for the door.
“Running to mom, again. She won’t always be there.”
“She made you do this? What do you even know about this work, you’re just twenty, you should be up studying.”
Bruce glare at him.
“I’m just trying to help you, dumbass.”
“I don’t need your help.”
“Alright! Let’s see if you won’t come back here. When it’s all yours.”
“What do you mean?” Dixon spun around. Leaving his hold on the door.
“Mom made this place, yours. She did it for you, it would be her birthday soon.”
“Birthday, what’s stupid birth....”
“Birthday?”
He questioned.
“She made a promise dunce. That she would do this on for you. Once you get out of prison.”
“What’s stupid stuff..” he laughed.
“You’re stupid.” Bruce replied, sitting beside Engel.
“Linda’s Birthday.” He whispered.
This was crazy, which day was it again.
October 12th. He’d completely forgotten.
“It’s not like it’s my birthday why is she giving me a gift for it? What’s so special about it anyway.”
“Promise moron.” He hissed.
“It might not be special to you, but it’s is to her. She missed you so much for the past years. You’re lucky, mom loves you so much.”
The last birthday, he celebrated with her was years ago, he sang for her, while playing the piano, they had a wonderful family time outside the town. Talked all night. Played games. One of the best he had ever, he had long forgotten there was a thing as birthday.
“I’m not the boss here, you’re, you know everything about music, you know how you do your stuff, ain’t no you, and this people, are here to help you.”
“You should have said that from the start.”
“Whatever brother. Just do your thing. I’m out of here. And you should call mom, she’s expecting it, make sure you call her mom, not Linda. She might get pissed off.” He chuckled.
“Why isn’t here?”
“You should ask her. I’m out.” He stopped halfway and turned to Engel and Jackson.
“Take care of him. And one more thing, I almost forgot, she would have killed me, if I failed to deliver it. On her birthday, which is days away, she wants you to be there. Come over to the house.”
“No way I’m going there, I was disowned remember.”
“That doesn’t seems like my business, you talk to her.”
He walked out. Tapping Dixon on the shoulders. He was still frozen. Still on the same spot.
Linda did all this for him. But why would she do that. He palmed his forehead. Confused.
He pulled of his phone from his pocket and walked out to make the call.
Just as he came out, he saw the same man in the elevator with him, coming down towards his with another man, who looked quite familiar to him. He paused. Watching them, moving towards the elevator.
He crane his neck.
Who was that man.
He turned, making Dixon got a glimpse of his face.
Uncle Peru, his father’s closest associate. He was with his throughout his childhood. He was a nice and funny man, while growing up, always present when he needed him he got to like him more than his father and kept wishing he was Peru’s son and not Albert.
As he ages, he began to noticed some cunning movements of his, he doesn’t like. He was always in the family business, interfere with everything that doesn’t concerns him. He changed from being the sweet uncle they knew to some distance devil. Which couldn’t be trusted.
To him though, he doesn’t know how the others sees him. A good friend, a trusted man, a man is honesty, someone you can lean on. He might still be beside Albert. Sticking to him, like a glue. What he wants, he doesn’t know yet. And why he was snooping around his fathers study the night before he was arrested.
Here he was, having the look of a backstabber. Only gawd knows what he has done or what he’s planning. Because those eyes doesn’t look good.
What was he doing here.
Business probably.
“Uncle Peru!” He called to be sure.
Peru turned and saw Dixon approaching them. He was startled at first. And quickly faux a smile.
“Dixon, good to see you again.”
He faked a laugh. Which Dixon noticed was fake.
“You haven’t changed a bit.”
“Really, I thought I looked a kinda old now.”
“Not at all.”
They laughed.
Both fake.
“What’re you doing here?”
“What’re you doing here?” They asked simultaneously.
“You go on first.”
Peru side smirked. Now knowing the reason he approached him.
Oh Dixon.
“Business.”
“Same here. Business.” Dixon answered in the same tone, staring at the hunk man, who didn’t move an inch from where he stood beside Peru. With his back against Dixon.
“I see you got yourself a new bouncer.”
“He’s not a bouncer.”
“Oh really.”
“He’s my partner in the business we’re on.”
“He doesn’t look like one.”
“What does he look like then?”
“A boxer.”
Peru laughed. Dixon could sense it in his voice he was faking it this time.
“I’ll take my leave now, Dixon, it’s really good to see back, getting your life back. You plan to sing again don’t you?”
“Yes.” He curtly replied.
“It’s good.”
“Yeah.”
Every word he said, Dixon watched him, there was something suspicious about the man, he still couldn’t put his finger on.
“I think we’re gonna see more often. Since, I’ve a business around here.”
“Definitely.”
“Linda’s Birthday is around the corner, going ain’t you?”
“Not sure about that yet.”
“Why, it’s your mom’s birthday, it’s something you shouldn’t miss, she didn’t celebrate it all those years you were in prison. You’re coming with a date ain’t you. I would love to see her. Am sure it’s not Beryl.” He laughed.
He knew he wanted him to say the word that he was disowned, that was what he wanted to hear. It was so evident in his cunning eyes, he already found out, he broke up with Beryl, or she broke up with him. How did he know about that. And that he’s got someone else. Someone priceless.
His alien.
He suddenly missed her. So much.
He was already thinking of cuddling her on their usual spot on the couch. Where he would hug her tight. Loving her smells.
Now he can’t wait to go back home and see her, smiling at him.
The innocent gazes he do get from her, so cute. She was just perfect, but she doesn’t know. And that he wanted to stay for ever.
“I don’t think Albert would like that.”
“You’re his son, he’s your father, you’re family. What’s wrong with that.”
Dixon exhaled.
“He disowned me, I’m not part of the family anymore. I’m a man on my own now.”
“I didn’t know.”
Lies.
He bit you do.
His father right hand man. Albert doesn’t do anything, that Peru is not aware of. They would have probably discussed it together and then decide what to do. He knew his father too well, how he valued, his friendship with Peru.
“How have you been coping?”
“I’ve been good, at least I’m still alive. Isn’t that what matters. I was thinking we could seat and have lunch together.”
“Some other time. I’ve a meeting to keep up with.”
Dixon nodded and backed away from him.
“Alright. See you around uncle.” He waved and went back to the spot he once was. A meeting?
Another damn lie.
There was something suspicious about him, and that he’s gonna find out.
Everything thing about the man.
Peru. He leaned on the wall, watching him and the man beside him.
His sized and figures looks familiar. The more he studied him, the more he felt like he knew the man. But he doesn’t know, it’s was confusing. His phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw Maeve calling him.
He automatically smiled.
And turned his back against them.
Receiving the call.
“Are you up?”
“Yeah.”
“I prepared some breakfast for you to eat though it’s now brunch though, have you eaten it.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Not hungry.”
“You should eat it, you can’t let it go to waste.”
“But I don’t want to. When’re you coming home?”
“Missing me already?”
“Not really.”
He frowned. Like she could actually see him.
“Ain’t you coming home?”
“Never.”
“What? You ain’t coming.”
“No I’m not, you ain’t gonna see me again. Never coming back to the house.”
“Do you mean it?”
“Of course!”
He chuckled when he didn’t hear her reply. He could actually picture her poppy face. And her cute eyes. He always believes everything he said. He couldn’t prank her. When when he wanted to.
He couldn’t get enough of her.
“Say you miss me.”
“Why should I?”
“You don’t want me to come home.”
“I do.”
“Then say it.” He chuckled.
“I miss you so much.”
He smiled.
“I’ll be home soon..”
Peru looked at him and shook his head. Enters the elevator and exhaled. He doesn’t know what’s await him. But that was close. He almost couldn’t stop himself from showing Dixon his other side, no one knew of.
The devil he was.
How did he got of prison. When had to make sure, he never sees the light of day.
Yet he was out. When he wasn’t supposed to. Did Linda bribe someone?
Well she was capable of such.
He was so close to finding out what he was doing, five years ago.
He was so so close to knowing his secrets. Which he had hid for years and still hiding.
If he hadn’t taken a quick move. He would have ruined him, in particular not even Albert his father.
And here he was again, in the place he was planning on doing something.
He worked here.
Business.
Bullshit!
He smirked and laughed devilishly.
That shouldn’t stop him. But he would make he regret talking to him. Or seeing his face.
“You see, you caused this.” He poked the chest of the so-called partner.
“You should have let him, rot in prison. He’s the gusts to indirectly threaten me. Ha ha.”
He didn’t reply. Peru. His head remained bent to the ground.
Like a zombie.
“Deal with him, this time, no mercy.”
“He already suspects us, if we do anything now, he would know it’s us.”
“I don’t Fucking care!”
“Just a little more time. We already have everything we need at our fingertips, we can’t ruin it for him. I’ll take care of him. Give it some time.”
“And let that time be quick.”
“Yes sir.”
He bowed.
“And before that, make sure to spread the news of him, singing again. Write something nasty. The guy you gave the order time to do the job. Tell him to do this. We’re paying block. If it’s a job well done.”
“I would do that now..”
“Yeah yeah.”
He nodded and lean on the chair.
Peru turned from him, its almost time to put a stop to all this. And Albert, a tiny blow and he’s all gone.
He laughed louder.
Ain’t you so smart Peru. The elevator opens and they came out of it. Walking out of the building. He opened the car and Peru enters. He was heading straight to meet Albert in his house. He was probably back from the meeting by now.
Just a little sip and it’s all gone.
“Is everything set. Josh.”
“Yes sir.”
“Make sure no one sees you. Be careful. Especially of the wife.”
“I’m fully aware, sir.”
“Good.”
He drove off. With the sly smile on his face.
This was just the beginning.
Albert Ambrose..
