Chapter 151: Chapter 151
Confusion filled the air at Michael’s words.
Almost immediately, murmurs of curiosity broke out among the people.
Even Christian and Gregory looked surprised. They hadn’t been informed of any of this. They were only supposed to make an announcement today, give details of the project, and show the products they had been working on for the past few months on the projector during the presentation.
Michael didn’t even look at them. He took a deep breath and braced himself for what was to come.
“Over the past several months, we have conducted an extensive private investigation into criminal activity that has threatened the integrity of our company and the safety of our family,” he said in a firm tone. “Now, it is with a heavy heart that I reveal that Christian Callahan, a key figure in this collaboration, has been implicated in these crimes.”
Gasps and shocked whispers filled the room in an instant.
“What did he just say?!”
“What in the world is going on?”
“Oh my!”
At this, Christian’s expression dramatically changed from shock to indignation.
Gregory, on the other hand, froze in place, clearly stunned by this unexpected development.
“We have gathered substantial evidence linking Christian to orchestrating the attack on my sister, Joanna McGregor, among other crimes,” Michael revealed.
That only fueled the shock in the grand hall.
“Joanna McGregor?!”
“Mr. Callahan is involved in such a crime?!”
“This is juicy!”
Journalists were already snapping tons of photos and recording everything.
Perfect.
Michael then gestured to the projector screen behind him. A series of documents, financial records, and surveillance footage appeared, clearly showing Christian’s involvement.
“These bank transactions in particular link Christian to known criminals,” Michael explained. “These payments match the dates and even match the deceased culprit Hank Turner’s account.”
Christian stood up, his face etched with outrage. “This is a setup! You have no proof!” he accused.
Michael remained calm and pointed to the screen. “The evidence speaks for itself, Mr. Callahan. And there’s more.”
The next slide showed a video of a visibly distraught Grady recounting how Hank had blackmailed him into getting involved in Joanna’s car accident.
“He told me that a powerful man was threatening my family,” Grady’s recorded voice said. “I had no choice but to comply.”
The next slide showed Hank’s bank account alongside Christian’s secret account, which had wired him a substantial sum of money.
Christian scoffed. “Grady is a mere employee who can easily be bought. His word means nothing. He has no credibility whatsoever.”
At that moment, Will stood up, his voice firm. “We also have testimony from others who were manipulated and threatened by you, Mr. Callahan. We’ve sent all the evidence to the police, to trusted detectives who are not on your payroll. It’s only a matter of time before they arrest you.”
Christian’s eyes narrowed. “You’re bluffing. You have nothing on me because there is no evidence. I have done nothing.”
“This is an outrage!” Gregory Callahan finally spoke up. “My son is being framed on what should be a joyous day. What are you McGregors up to?!”
Suddenly, John McGregor stood with his arms crossed over his chest. “You’re one to talk!” he growled.
Gregory turned and looked at him coldly. “What do you mean, John?”
John scoffed. “Have you forgotten what happened all those years ago? Have you forgotten what you did to my brother?”
Gregory’s expression became icier than ever. “I have no recollection of such a thing.”
“Well then, let me enlighten everyone instead.” John McGregor addressed the crowd, his voice loud and authoritative. “I admit here in front of all these reporters that my younger brother, Samuel McGregor, hit a man with his car 32 years ago, and the man died as a result. That man was Mason Parker.”
The reporters were in a frenzy at this point. The audience was in chaos.
John McGregor continued, “Gregory Callahan made a deal with my brother. If Samuel broke off his relationship with Pamela Callahan, Gregory’s wife, then Gregory would not turn over the evidence to the police.
“Samuel did exactly as he was told, but then Gregory betrayed him and gave the evidence to the police. Pamela Callahan had planned to divorce him and marry Samuel instead, but Gregory would not let her. Instead, he drove Pamela Callahan to suicide months later. May God bless her soul.”
Everyone instantly burst into conversation. One could only imagine the numerous rumors and articles that were going to come up from this revelation.
The Callahan name was going to take a huge hit from this.
Gregory Callahan’s face was red, but he said nothing. Instead, he turned to the security guards and barked, “What are you idiots waiting for?! Arrest this man immediately for bribing the police and aiding his brother to evade justice!”
The officers made a move to approach John McGregor, but then a trembling female voice made them all freeze.
“What…? Is this all true, Daddy?”
Patricia Callahan stood there, staring at them in disbelief.
She had just heard everything.
Gregory approached his daughter. “Patricia, it’s not true—”
But Patricia took a step back, clearly afraid. She looked like a cornered animal. “I…”
“But that’s not all,” an unfamiliar voice suddenly interrupted.
Everyone turned to see a man in a formal suit. He was handsome, with brown hair and green eyes, and appeared to be in his mid-40s.
“My name is Samuel McGregor,” the man said firmly. “I am here to clear things up. Yes, it’s true. I was the one who accidentally hit Mason Parker with my car that day, and like a coward, I ran away.
“When Gregory Callahan presented me with evidence of my hit-and-run, I panicked and broke up with his wife at the time. This time, I will take responsibility and accept punishment for my wrongdoing. However,” he continued in a strong, unwavering tone, “the truth is that it was not just any incident. Based on a private investigation conducted by my nephew, it’s been revealed that Gregory Callahan was engaged in sinister activities behind the scenes.
“Years ago, Gregory manipulated a man named Luther van Gowen into betraying his partner, Mason Parker. When Mason died, Gregory seized the opportunity to take control, making Luther the sole founder and owner of the hotel business. But this was not an isolated incident. Gregory’s manipulations extended to many others.”
Samuel took a deep, shuddering breath.
“Pamela Callahan left Gregory a few years after I left her. It turned out she was having an affair with the gardener, whom Gregory despised. The gardener—”
At that moment, Gregory approached him, enraged and snarling. “You…! How dare you say th—”
“Dad!”
Gregory froze, slowly turning his head to face his daughter, who was now crying silently. She looked utterly upset, her lips trembling with emotion.
But her eyes were filled with an angry determination.
“Let him finish,” she said, her voice eerily calm. “I want to hear everything.”
