Chapter 1073: Chapter 1073
The one most likely to be losing their mind facing such an utterly insane scene had to be Nyx.
“No. No way! This can’t be happening!!”
As a necromancer, Nyx possessed power equivalent to the 9th Circle when he first encountered Davey. Aside from Davey, no one else on the continent had the strength to harm him, helpless in the face of his absolute power.
While the situation at that moment was demonstrably different, the outcome didn’t change. Even someone like Nyx, who had spent so much time honing devil magic, was like a child playing with toys compared to a Death Lord like Davey. When someone relied completely on magic like he did, only to have that magic stripped away, the result was bound to be disastrous.
“That’s why you can’t just act cocky and rely on one thing.”
‘Ah, so that guy is a demon.’
Nyx’s gaze trembled in confusion even as he was being mobbed by the resistance fighters.
“If things continue this way and he learns his weakness early, won’t he come up with countermeasures later on?”
Even if he did, the outcome would still be the same as when Davey had eliminated him on the island. Still, he couldn’t help but question whether it was really okay to just leave things like that.
Goddess Freyja suddenly thrust her notebook in front of him.
Davey immediately stopped all the interference and Dispels he had been casting on Nyx. Recognizing the opportunity, Nyx let out an enormous surge of power from his body.
“You bastards!!! How dare you mock me!? I’ll kill you all!!!” He retaliated once again, launching the attacking resistance members far into the distance.
“What the hell is that?!”
When the resistance fighters slowly got back to their feet, their eyes trembled as they stared at the massive lich floating in the air.
“That thing’s... pretty big, isn’t he?” Davey muttered to Goddess Freyja.
She simply ignored him and kept poking his cheek playfully. Davey was starting to understand her behavior a little bit. From his specialized knowledge, it was clear that she meant for him to stay put.
Layer after layer of black magic circles began to gather around Nyx.
“That’s...” Watching the spell unfold, Davey narrowed his eyes and nodded slightly. Updates are released by novelꞁire.net
He didn’t know what exactly she wanted, but he was certain that after suffering such humiliation, Nyx had completely snapped.
“D-Damn it! Our attacks aren’t working!”
“Do something, quick!!”
Desperate cries rang out. One fighter even ran up to Davey and shouted, “C-Can’t you do something?!”
Even so, he remained silent as if simply waiting.
The magic circles that were slowly forming soon began to resonate deeply with his devil mana. “I’ll show you all what a true hell is!”
The eyes of the fallen chancellor suddenly shot open with passion. “Y-Yes, Nyx! Kill them all! Don’t leave a single one ali—guh?!!”
In the middle of screaming at the top of his lungs, his body convulsed violently. Then, Nyx began pulling something out from his body. It was none other than the chancellor’s soul.
“Shut up, you worthless being! Your soul will serve as an offering!”
After ripping out his soul, Nyx kicked the withering body away. Discarded, the chancellor’s physical form crumbled like dry sand. It was a pointless, pathetic end for someone who had once turned an entire nation into a living hell.
Now completely unhinged, Nyx began spinning the magic circles rapidly, expanding the scale of his spell. “I’ll erase this plaza—no, this entire country from the map!”
The scale of the magic had become so massive that even those unfamiliar with magic could feel its overwhelming presence.
“Something is wrong. That’s not the normal kind of magic!”
“This formation... How is that even possible?!”
Those knowledgeable in magic couldn’t hide their horror at what Nyx was doing. Meanwhile, the others who were overwhelmed by the sheer pressure of his power couldn’t even begin to comprehend it.
“Damn it! What in the world is going on?!”
“This is insane!! That kind of vicious magic will destroy even the caster. That crazy bag of bones is basically blowing itself up right now!”
“For something supposedly self-destructing, it looks way too fine and healthy, doesn’t it?!”
“That’s what I’m saying! I don’t get it either!”
If only the caster remained unharmed in the face of a massive self-destruction spell, then it wasn’t just a dangerous suicide spell anymore—it was a highly effective wide-area massacre spell.
The magic Nyx was charging up steadily grew in power, resonating as it even drew in Nyx’s own vitality. In fact, the only reason the souls of the resistance fighters weren’t sucked in was because Davey was actively blocking it. Without him, not a single person present would’ve survived.
Instinctively sensing the danger, the resistance launched another wave of attacks, but not a single one landed on Nyx. To begin with, very few attacks could even be effective against him.
Instead, the devil mana storm that Nyx was generating caused the mages of the resistance to suffer from mana reversal. As a result, they started coughing up blood and collapsing one by one.
The resistance members gradually turned pale with fear.
“H-Hey! Can’t you do something about that?!”
“At this rate, we’re all gonna die!”
Ignoring their desperate pleas for help, Davey continued to wait in silence. Even though the spell looked like it could explode at any second, both he and Goddess Freyja remained strangely calm.
Nyx’s magic had already reached a level of completion that was beyond a simple Dispel’s capability to destroy.
“This is the end.” The moment his enraged voice echoed, dozens—no, hundreds—of dark magic circles appeared around him as he spread his arms wide.
Everyone watching could only express despair as the explosive power of the magic circles signaled what felt like the end of humanity.
“Hahahahaha!! I don’t know how you interfered with my spell before, but this time, it’s impossible!” Nyx’s eyes trembled with unhinged rage. “Die!!”
The massive dark magic circles began to tremble violently around him as each circle began radiating enormous power. Unfortunately, the range of destruction and death was too wide for them to even think about running. The resistance shut their eyes tightly, losing all hope.
Then, more words suddenly appeared on Goddess Freyja’s notebook.
Having gotten the signal, Davey raised his right hand. “This is definitely not something I can just break with a simple Dispel.”
Nyx turned his gaze toward him.
“Hah! Ridiculous. There’s no way a Dispel could cancel my magic! Even if it were somehow possible at the start, this spell is already beyo—”
Davey cut him off mid-sentence with flashing eyes. “Well, let’s find out.”
The moment Davey snapped his fingers, a wave of eerie silence swept through the area. Even Nyx stopped talking and slowly lifted his head.
His eyes, once full of madness and fury, were shaking with confusion and terror. “W-What? What the hell is going on?!”
A spell that structurally couldn’t be broken with a Dispel, the supposedly completed absolute magic, was now stalling and faltering right in front of his eyes.
With a thunderous sound, the entire spell structure began to crumble.
“No way... No! That can’t be happening!!” Thinking it was some kind of illusion, Nyx screamed in denial and fired a spell at Davey. Unfortunately for him, the already unraveling magic didn’t stop.
“It’s nothing special, really. I simply analyzed the structure, interfered, and overloaded it from the inside.”
“What are you talking about? That’s not how things work! That shouldn’t be possible!”
“Well, you’re watching it happen.”
Unlike a Dispel, which worked by analyzing and unraveling the structure of a spell, what Davey accomplished wasn’t done with magic in the conventional sense. He hadn’t untied the knot of the structure—he’d cut straight through it with brute force.
No matter how tightly a rope was tied, once it was severed, there was no way it could still hold anything. Sure, it was a crude and reckless method, something that shouldn’t normally be possible, but that was the difference between Davey and Nyx.
Nyx was far weaker than when he first encountered him in the future. On the other hand, Davey had since grown incomparably stronger.
Nyx watched his entire magic collapse before his eyes as his own form slowly began to fall apart. The immense power that had been built up inside him had nowhere to go. As such, it began tearing through his own body, turning inward like a raging storm.
“Grrrgh?! Gyaaah!!” Nyx collapsed and howled in agony.
Due to the Ritual of Immortality, he wouldn’t die. Even so, the pain that followed reached the absolute limit of his ability to endure.
At the same time, a faint crack appeared in Nyx’s screaming soul. Davey let out a quiet exclamation as he noticed the change in his body.
“The immortality cracked,” he muttered under his breath, eyes fixed on the sight.
In the future, Nyx would die to an arrow crafted by Surtr. If his so-called immortality was truly absolute, that shouldn't have been possible. However, if there was even the slightest gap, then it was more than plausible.
“Is this why you told me to wait?”
Goddess Freyja gave a silent nod to his question. In the original timeline, it was her divine punishment that had struck Nyx and deeply affected his immortality. If that divine punishment wasn’t going to be delivered, as a result of the recent interference, then Davey had to deal with all the resulting problems himself.
“Grrgh?! Y-You’ll regret this!!” Finally, Nyx chose the humiliating option, retreating to save his own figurative skin. He suddenly cast a spell to escape. Honestly, it was easier for Davey if he just ran away, but he also wanted to keep tormenting the old bag of bones a bit longer.
“About your scheduled divine punishment,” Davey said quietly, turning to Goddess Freyja. “Didn’t it wipe out the resistance and civilians in this area, too? If we let this many people survive, the future might change drastically.”
[It’s okay. I’ll take care of it.]
Davey blinked at the absurdly casual response.
‘Well, if she says she’ll handle it, I guess it’s fine.’
He knew she had no reason to lie to him. Since he’d decided to trust her, he was going to trust her all the way.
“We won!! We actually took down those dirty bastards!!”
The resistance shouted and hugged one another, still struggling to believe they had just eliminated the chancellor, who had long corrupted the Arbute Kingdom, along with all his subordinates.
With the chancellor effectively neutralized, there was no longer any point of a power struggle between the kingdom and the resistance. There were sure to be quite a few outsiders stunned by how they had come simply to rescue Red Scorpion, only to wipe out all of their enemies on the spot.
Watching their celebration from afar, Davey quietly stepped back. His job was done, so there was no longer any need to be involved.
Nyx and his immortality had been damaged and driven off as intended, and everything else had gone exactly according to plan. At the same time, he was able to make sure the enemies paid their price for laying hands on Goddess Freyja.
Yet, things were far from over for him. Davey realized as much when he turned away from the celebrating resistance and walked toward the distance. f r\eew,eb novel.c(o)(m)
“When did that...” he muttered as he saw a tiny black manifestation flicker in Goddess Freyja’s hands. Even someone as divinely radiant as her appeared solemn as she slowly opened her eyes and gazed at the black swirl.
“Are you going to give them divine punishment?”
She gave a silent nod as an answer.
What her hand held was a soul. Specifically, it was the soul of the chancellor, the same one that should’ve been absorbed and erased by Nyx only moments before.
“How twisted did he have to be for his soul to turn that pitch black?” Davey knew it wouldn’t have been possible unless the man was more than just a little mad and insane.
‘No wonder she chose to punish him directly.’
Silently staring down at the soul, she suddenly clenched her hand, the black soul vanishing completely. He no longer deserved the mercy of eternal rest and reincarnation.
Goddess Freyja turned her gaze toward Davey. Her quiet revenge was over—for the moment, at least, assuming she didn’t cause any more trouble.
Feeling an odd sense of unease, Davey glanced at her. She remained silent, eyes closed while one hand was slowly placed over her chest. She then took something out.
A red vortex stirred between her hand and chest as they resonated. Soon, a red, teardrop-shaped gem appeared in her palm.
‘A gem? No, it’s a bit different.’
Seeing his puzzled expression, she gave a faint, bitter smile.
[There’s no reason for me to remain here anymore.]
Davey didn’t say anything, simply looking at her.
[This is the medium for divine punishment, something that should’ve never existed.]
When she’d died, it had gone berserk and triggered divine punishment.
[It’s the Primordial Essence, containing immense power.]
Davey couldn’t help but think that even as an avatar, she was on a completely different level. Still he couldn’t understand what she was expecting him to do with it.
As Davey stared at her in silence, she slowly stepped forward and placed the gem in his hand.
The Primordial Essence, which should’ve gone out of control and vanished when she died, remained intact because she had survived.
[Child of Twilight. Princess of the Ancient Dragons.]
Davey’s eyes abruptly widened.
[She will need this one day.]
She remained expressionless as she looked straight at him.
“She’ll need this? The Primordial Essence?”
[A future not far from now. The future from the ego of mine you have brought back with you.]
Davey flinched. Come to think of it, after his past encounter with those constellations, Evangeline had once kept her complicated feelings deeply buried.
A chill ran down his spine. He wondered if he would’ve still gotten it if he had ignored the Goddess back then.
Davey stayed silent for a moment before meeting her gaze.
“This... It’s real, right?”
Since Evangeline wasn’t human but an ancient dragon, Davey didn’t know everything about how she had to be raised. That was why he needed all the information he could get.
“Seriously. Not a single peaceful day, eh?”
‘What is it with ancient dragons? Every single one of them always has trouble on their tails.’
[Child of Twilight. Princess of the Ancient Dragons, her direct bloodline. Nothing more needs to be said.]
In short, Evangeline was the direct daughter of Eclipse, the ancient dragon who held absolute power.
She asked again, looking at him.
Davey suddenly felt a twinge of unease. “Y-Yes. Thank you, of course I’m grateful. She’s... she’s my precious daughter.”
She then pulled her notebook back out and held it up to him.
[If you’re grateful, you should repay me.]
“Goddess?” He couldn’t figure out why she was suddenly acting like that.
The message in her notebook shifted slightly.
[You should repay me, right?]
“Hold on a second. Weren’t we square once I saved you? You were supposed to die here, weren’t you?”
Davey had twisted fate just a little, joined hands with her, and completely toyed with the course of destiny.
It was unfortunate for the resistance, but the Arbute Kingdom would soon undergo reforms. Even if the reigning king ended up dragged to the guillotine, the country wouldn’t last long since those who’d had their eyes on the kingdom all that time wouldn’t miss the opportunity.
Still, compared to countless lives being lost under divine punishment, the outcome seemed to be less evil. In the end, Goddess Freyja was fated to die, but because of Davey, she had survived. He had thought the red gem had been his reward for that.
However, she was even more shameless than he’d expected.
Davey knew her avatar version had more emotions than her original, but the one before him had become far too cunning.
[I learned from watching you.]
That left Davey completely speechless. He truly had no one to blame but himself.
“So... what do you want me to do, then?” Davey gave in and asked.
She slowly reached out and placed a hand on his body, performing yet another miracle. His clothes began to change all at once.
Upon seeing the transformation, she immediately pinched her bloody nose, lowered her head, and began trembling.
Even so, her other hand moved in a circle around him, drawing with a pale green light. The light scanned and copied him, then hardened into something like a small doll.
Unbeknownst to Davey, it was just the beginning. He had no clue about the true ramifications of her avatar’s survival.
“Okay, this is way over the line!!”
[Won’t let this opportunity slide.]
‘Where is she even learning this kind of language?!’
Afterward, Davey glared at his new outfit with open frustration.
How could she have thought it was okay to give him clothes like those?
