Chapter 1072: Chapter 1072
The one-sided massacre and assault had been flipped on its head, changing the atmosphere in an instant.
Even the resistance who were staring blankly at reality, the surviving chancellor, and his subordinates seemed to sense that something had taken a bizarre turn.
“W-What the hell are you?”
“You’re using holy power while handling aura. That’s not something a Paladin can do.”
The two figures, a man and a woman, appeared before Davey in a flash.
They were part of the chancellor’s forces, like Goliath the Giant and the Silcy the Vampire whom Davey had already taken down. The two were the remaining leaders of the execution unit.
Judging by what he had heard, discerned the woman to be Vengeance the Demon and the man to be Vakram the Fiend. Both exuded an overwhelming presence, looking ready to strike at any moment.
The chancellor, clearly agitated by the outsider who had disrupted his plans and slaughtered his subordinates, screamed at the top of his lungs, “Kill him!! Kill that bastard!!”
“Aaagh!! My arm!! My arm!!”
Before anyone could react, a flying blade had already sliced off one of his arms, sending him crashing to the ground as he twisted and screamed in agony. Perhaps he had been too complacent, thinking he still had a trump card to use. Maybe he was just a full-blown psycho. No one knew.
For a second, it reminded Davey of something similar he’d experienced before.
“Stay quiet. I’ll deal with you later.”
He was overlapping with the bastard who had once taken his younger sister Winley hostage.
‘He sure does piss me off.’ Davey, his expression cold, watched as the two execution unit leaders took the moment to launch their attacks.
The demon came flying at him, aiming for his head, while the fiend vanished into the shadows, reappearing behind Davey.
“Getting a little too relaxed with us standing right here, aren’t you?” Vengeance said with a seductive smile as she tried to stab her weapon into his eyes.
Davey slightly twisted his body, dodging the attack, and yet her smile only deepened. He wondered why she was smiling when her attack had just missed.
Davey managed to gracefully slide past both their attacks by smoothly somersaulting, but just as he landed, he noticed an intricate magic circle drawn beneath his feet.
“What is this?” Davey asked.
“Who knows? Why would we tell the enemy?” Vengeance said with a seductive smile.
“Cutting down Goliath was a bit surprising, I’ll admit. But you? While you’ve got power, you don't have much actual combat experience, huh?”
Her mocking tone made Davey chuckle. “Yeah? Bring it on then.”
They must’ve decided that a frontal clash would be too dangerous, because they didn’t give him a single opening. Vengeance would draw his attention while Vakram launched deadly strikes. Ordinary Masters would’ve already been taken down by their teamwork after such a swift assault.
Davey stepped on another strange magic circle. A faint glow of pale light seeped out of it before sinking into his body. At the same time, a bizarre mark appeared on the back of his hand.
“Are you giving me tattoos or something?”
The Fiend gave him a chilling smile.
He now had one mark from the first circle on his right hand, with another from the second on his left.
Davey figured there had to be something special behind the magic circles.
To be exact, these two were closer to the Special Ones while still having their own unique flair and capabilities.
After dodging a few more of their coordinated attacks, Davey stepped on their fifth magic circle. Once they saw his foot touch down, they simply stopped.
The two backed off with relaxed smiles.
“That’s it? That’s all you’ve got?” Davey asked, prompting a chilling laugh from Vakram.
Just then, Malton, who had recovered and come to his senses, screamed in panic, “T-That’s the Dying Seal Magic Circle. No!! Stop!!”
“That’s right, it’s the Dying Seal Magic Circle! Step on it five times, and the target is completely erased.”
‘So that’s why they avoided direct attacks and tried to stall for time. It all makes sense now.’
“You’ve got ten seconds left. That’s how much longer you’ll live,” Vakram the Fiend said in a mocking tone.
Davey curiously looked down at the strange mark that had appeared on the back of his hand.
The outfit that Goddess Freyja had forced onto him still felt completely unnatural and messed with his look, but by that point, he couldn’t have cared less.
“Okay. Go ahead, do what you need to do.”
Vakram made a twisted face. “Still not grasping the situation, are you?”
“Hasn’t it already been ten seconds?” Davey said as he held out the back of his hand toward them.
Their faces instantly twisted in shock.
“H-How... What’s happening to the mark?!”
The black-and-white mark he showed them was slowly fading before their very eyes.
“You just said it earlier, claiming I lack battle experience,” Davey said to the stunned pair. “Well, that’s actually what I was gonna say too. If you really had a lot of experience...”
Trailing off with a cold smile, Davey stepped forward. “You would’ve run already.”
In a flash, Davey rushed in and drove his fist deep into Vengeance the Demon’s abdomen, sending her flying.
Slamming into the wall, she gagged and wheezed from the unexpected and excruciating blow. Even so, Davey wasn’t about to give her a chance to recover.
“Thanks for the blessing.”
Her disapproving message appeared before his eyes as he snatched up her blessings without permission. Once Davey had realized he could freely draw on her blessings while she existed as an avatar, he felt like it’d be a waste not to.
‘Damn, this is getting addictive!’
Without hesitation, Davey plunged the holy spears imbued with sacred flame into both of Vengeance’s shoulders and knees as she slumped against the wall.
He then turned toward Vakram, the remaining execution unit leader.
“H-How is this possible?! How can lower-tier holy magic even hurt us?!”
Panicked, Vakram quickly tried to vanish into the shadows, but Davey hurled a lightning spear directly at the shadow he’d slipped into.
“Arrrgh!!” he screamed and burst out of the shadows, impaled by the lightning spear.
Coughing up a mouthful of blood, the look on his face was one of utter disbelief. They weren’t the only ones shocked, either. The resistance had clearly never imagined that two of the most powerful national-level powerhouses could be taken down so easily, and without even getting in a solid hit.
The magic circles they had lured Davey onto were indeed deadly.
Since their abilities stemmed from their special traits, they couldn’t simply be dispelled with conventional magic.
Still, even aside from that fact, there were just too many powers now flowing through Davey that could devour foreign forces like that.
With Vengeance unable to move, Vakram’s eyes darted around wildly. Then, as if he'd spotted something, he bolted into motion.
He grabbed a hostage, choosing Goddess Freyja.
Though she’d been right next to Davey the whole time, she had somehow managed to avoid becoming a target until then. Vakram, desperate to survive, had suddenly remembered how flustered Davey had been around her.
He pressed a short dagger to her throat.
“Don’t move! If you do, this woman will die!” he said in a trembling, manic voice.
Davey’s expression gradually turned ice-cold.
Even with a blade at her neck, she remained completely expressionless. Then, as if realizing something, she held up her notebook to Davey.
It was the most soulless imitation of fear imaginable. He wondered if she was trying to mimic human behavior. The awkward attempt reminded him of Rinne.
“H-Hahaha. You bastard. You care about this woman’s life, don’t you? One wrong move and she—”
Vakram never got to finish his threat. From several meters away, Davey casually flicked his sword and Vakram’s head dropped cleanly to the ground.
“You really shouldn’t cross the line.”
While it didn't matter to him how evil they were, threatening her was something Davey couldn’t forgive. Even that vile God of the Abyss, Thanatos, had never tried to directly lay a hand on her.
‘Or had he? Not that it matters, I suppose.’
His severed head, still wearing that twisted smile he had just directed at Davey, displayed his shock.
“The execution unit leader was taken down that easily?”
In the midst of the unbelievable sight, Davey casually flicked the blood off his sword and reached out toward Vengeance the Demon, who was still wheezing on the ground.
“N-No. No!!” Barely regaining consciousness, she instinctively screamed the moment she saw his hand approaching.
Black flames engulfed her completely, leaving not even ashes behind.
They were strong, that much was certain. With the powers of Masters, and further enhancements from their unique special traits, their physical bodies were far beyond human capabilities.
All in all, they were national-level threats. That was also why, for the chancellor—now missing an arm and slumped in shock—the idea that the execution unit leaders could be wiped out so easily was absolutely unthinkable.
Yet, none of that mattered anymore.
“What the hell? What are you?! What are you really?!”
After the chancellor shouted in disbelief, Davey adjusted his mask and took a step toward him. “If you hadn’t laid a hand on her, I wouldn’t have gotten involved, no matter whether this country turned into a living hell or not.”
The chancellor clenched his teeth in frustration. “That wench is a—”
“That mouth of yours is the real problem.”
The chancellor screamed, now having lost his other arm. The remaining execution unit members, those who’d somehow survived the earlier wide-range holy magic, stepped in front of him with terrified faces. They’d been lucky just to survive.
Davey could’ve cast another spell, but he didn’t feel the need.
“Stop him! Stop that monster from getting any closer!”
They might’ve been loyal subordinates, but they weren’t stupid. After seeing their leaders crumble like that, they knew there was nothing they could do.
As the chaos continued, Davey slowly raised his sword.
“H-Hey! There’s no need to kill all of us!”
“There’s always an idiot who can’t read the room, huh,” Davey said coldly as black smoke began to envelop his entire body.
It was as if his very form had become a shadowy mist.
Their faces were full of fear before one of their heads fell, effortlessly severed. Unfortunately for them, that was only the beginning.
Davey showed no mercy facing their desperate cries and suffering. What began as a reversal had turned into a one-sided slaughter. Even so, not a single soul dared try to stop the massacre.
Only after the final execution unit member fell did the surroundings seem to start moving again.
Davey tossed his sword aside and slowly began walking toward the chancellor.
That was when he heard Red Scorpion call out to him, “Are you going to kill him?”
“I’m not the type to let things go after I get hit.”
If there had been some circumstance or legitimate reason, maybe he could’ve found some middle ground. Alas, the chancellor wasn’t even worth the consideration.
“I see. If it weren’t for you, we’d all be dead. And even if we’d survived, it wouldn’t have been a life worth living.”
Davey slowly approached the chancellor, who was trembling violently. “You got something to say?”
“I want to be the one to kill him,” Red Scorpion requested from the side, knowing how shameless he sounded.
Davey simply stared at him in silence.
“I have deep grudges.”
“Do whatever you want, then.” To Davey, the goal was all that mattered, no matter how it was reached.
“A-Are you serious?!” Red Scorpion staggered to his feet, his body still unsteady.
“Do whatever you want. As long as he ends up dead, I don’t care how it happens.”
Just when he was about to step toward the lone surviving chancellor, supported by his comrades, a massive magic circle began to manifest.
At that time, a pale, hazy energy began to rise from the countless corpses strewn across the battlefield. It was all converging, heading somewhere.
The chancellor’s eyes widened as he stared at the scene in ecstatic awe. “Finally! It worked!”
“Hey! What the hell did you—?!”
An immense, crushing pressure exploded outward, pressing down on the area. The resistance collapsed under the weight of it and shouted in shock.
“Keh. Kehehe. That’s right. The bodies don’t matter, only the number of souls does.”
“What the hell are you talking about?!” Red Scorpion shouted.
The chancellor just started laughing as something enormous began to rise behind him. A massive figure had emerged from the black rift tearing open the earth.
A skeleton giant was in front of them. The sight drained the color from the resistance’s faces.
“That’s right. Allow me to introduce him, a being in an entirely different league from the likes of those execution unit fools. Thanks to you wiping them out for me, the Ritual of Immortality is complete.”
Originally, his plan had been to complete the ritual by killing the resistance as sacrifices. Alas, they had survived the trap. Even worse, the execution unit had been completely slaughtered in turn.
Brought to the brink of desperation, the ritual had consumed the souls of the leaders and their forces instead, and the Ritual of Immortality was brought to completion.
The sheer presence of the towering skeletal figure, draped in a dark robe, sent fear into the hearts of the resistance.
“Haaah. This air doesn’t suit me at all,” a voice like metal scraping against stone echoed, chilling and vile. The skeletal being’s eyes gleamed with a ghostly light.
“Funny how fate works,” Davey said while grinning.
It was none other than the First Lich, Nyx. He was a being that would later be sealed away, and the one who had devoted everything to turning Perserque into a Demon King.
In the parallel world, Nyx was the one who plunged Tionis into hell. Called the First Lich for a reason, his power was overwhelming. More importantly, Nyx was the one being there that Davey absolutely could not kill.
Davey had already encountered Nyx more than twice. In Tionis, Davey had completely erased him using Surtr’s Arrow. In the parallel world, he’d been unable to kill Nyx and instead sealed him away using an intense sealing circle.
Then there he was, facing the past Nyx. Past, parallel world, and present. At the current rate, Davey felt like he was destined to meet Nyx at every point in time, maybe even before he was born.
The towering skeleton began drawing mana into its hand, worthy of his status as a being who had survived even the divine punishment of Goddess Freyja.
Facing his unique immortal powers, Davey had not been able to fully erase him even with Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon. He figured if he couldn’t kill him, it would be better not to fight at all.
Unfortunately, Nyx was siding with the chancellor. If left alone, he’d most certainly follow the chancellor’s orders and attack.
The best move would be to make him leave without having to kill him. Thinking it over, Davey narrowed his eyes. Moments later, he snapped his fingers. “Hey, Scorpio. You can still fight, right?”
“What?” Red Scorpion replied in a daze. He was still crumpled on the ground from the overwhelming pressure of Nyx’s appearance.
“You can have the chancellor’s head, but in return you guys will have to deal with that thing.”
“Relax. It’s just a big skeleton acting tough.”
Red Scorpion looked at Davey like he was a madman uttering nonsense.
At the same time, Nyx furrowed his brow, clearly irritated by Davey’s dismissive remark. Slowly, he raised his hand.
“How dare you run your mouth so freely, Horne? I'll show you death itself. Death Fog.” His voice had hardly finished ringing out before a massive amount of devil mana began to surge around him.
Without a sound, something shattered. Nyx’s magic was instantly unraveled and vanished into nothing. He tilted his head slightly, seemingly unable to comprehend what had just happened.
Even the resistance, who had been bracing themselves to face his spell, looked around in confusion as absolutely nothing occurred.
“It seems the Ritual of Immortality has disrupted my internal mana flow. Fine then! Death Spear!”
Davey simply smiled, his hands still clasped behind his back.
The spell technique was shattered once again. Nothing materialized Nyx’s hands.
Despite his bold declarations, he couldn’t cast a single spell. On top of that, the oppressive pressure that had once blanketed the area was long gone.
The resistance, sensing the shift, began cautiously stepping forward with their weapons drawn.
“You lowly humans dare approach me?!” Still unable to grasp why his magic wasn’t working, Nyx suddenly screamed in fury, “Die!! Prominence!!”
Once again, nullified.
Unable to cast any magic at all, Nyx was reduced to just a giant talking sack of bones.
Davey, standing off to the side with his arms behind his back, spoke casually as the expressions of the resistance began to shift, “Like I told you, it’s no big deal. You can at least deal with a walking skeleton, right?”
Nyx, on the other hand, was in a full-blown panic. He couldn’t manifest a single spell!
The Nyx that Davey had once fought had been able to sense when he dispelled his magic. The one standing before him in that moment, limited by his current level, couldn’t even recognize that his spells were being unraveled. He was rendered nothing more than a particularly tough punching bag.
When Davey grinned, First Lich Nyx flailed his arms in desperation, trying to cast anything at all. Unfortunately, he shattered every single one of his spells before they could ever take form.
The confident gleam in Nyx’s eyes began to tremble violently. He was starting to understand that something had gone horribly wrong. Even so, there was nothing he could do.
Unlucky was the only way to describe its situation.
“Why... Why won’t my spells work?!”
As he was being overwhelmed and beaten down, Nyx looked toward Davey in disbelief.
Within his flickering, trembling eye sockets, his gaze suddenly sharpened. “You! You did something to me, didn’t you?!”
“Oh, come on. Accusing people without proof? That’s not cool.”
“What the hell is this guy?! He's dominating me like it’s nothing!”
“That was your trump card?! Die, you pile of bones!!” Official source is N()velFire.net
“Gah! S-Stop!! Do you even know who I am?!”
