Chapter 19: Chapter 19

~ Sophie's POV ~

I heard Thiago come back into our room sometime during the night causing my eyes to open, I wasn't asleep for the last few hours but I had my eyes shut. "Thiago?" After I said his name I heard a small crash as Thiago let out a curse in Italian, I couldn't hold in my chuckle as Thiago turned on a lamp near to him.

"Why are you awake?" I had to control my giggling before I spoke, the look on his face was priceless. "I couldn't sleep. What did you drop?" I sat up a little so that I could see, I frowned at the sight of my purse, most of my things were scattered out on the floor.

"Thiago.." I sat up properly watching him carefully. "What were you doing with my purse?"

"I was just looking for something?" The way he said it made it sound like he was unsure of his response causing me to roll my eyes. "What were you looking for?" I rose an eyebrow at him waiting for him to respond, eventually he sighed and came over to me. "Don't get angry." I moved away from him to stop him from touching me. "Tell me."

"I was just checking if you were on any type of medication." I stared at him for a moment in confusion. "Why? If I am, it's got nothing to do with you." He nodded and quickly tried to defend his actions. "No I know, it's just that when I was at the hospital I spoke to a doctor about what happened and he prescribed some pills for you if you have any symptoms of PTSD, but you need to be off all other medication first." My eyes were as wide as saucers as I stared at Thiago in shock. "You had no fucking right to tell anyone what happened Thiago! It has nothing to do with you! Anything to do with my health is private!"

"Sophie calm down you're going to wake everyone up." Thiago stood to his feet desperately trying to calm me down but I was having none of it. "I don't give a shit! Who the hell do you think you are? Who else have you told Thiago?!" I glared at him, struggling to get my anger under control.

"Just be quiet and I'll fucking tell you!" He whisper shouted at me trying to keep the noise down. "No Thiago! Tell me now!" He glared at me whilst shaking his head. "Shut the fuck up Sophie, I mean it. My mom and Matteo have been at the hospital all night they need to sleep." I scoffed and stood to my feet not caring that I was only wearing my underwear.

"Trust me Thiago, you'll be in the fucking hospital next if you don't tell me who else you told." I wasn't as loud as I was before, but I was deadly serious. My threat didn't go down with Thiago at all, anger took over his features and he stepped towards me threateningly, we stood in the middle of the dimly lit room glaring at each other before Thiago eventually shook his head and moved away from me.

"Just lie back down and I'll tell you Sophie." He was calmer when he spoke but I could tell he was still annoyed; not wanting to push him too far after what happened earlier I just decided to do what he said. He sat on the bed next to me and rested his head in his hands.

"I told Carlotta." I opened my mouth to say something but he cut me off quickly. "Let me explain before you go all crazy on me." I closed my mouth with a frown when he said this. "She saw me leaving the house after I brought you back and when she asked what happened I just told her. I know I shouldn't have but I was in bits after seeing you in that state, she was there to comfort me and I told her."

Thiago didn't look at me when he spoke, he just kept his eyes closed and his head in his hands. The look on his face made me instantly regret reacting in the way I did, I was angry but I didn't need to go off at him like that. I didn't think about how all of this would have affected him. Feeling guilt rise up in me, I reached over and placed my hand on his shoulder causing him to turn his head to look at me. "I'm sorry."

"You don't have to be sorry Sophie, I just don't want you to be angry. She does care about you, when I told her she almost cried too, and she came to the hospital with me and she was also the one who suggested I speak to a doctor." I sighed and leaned back into my pillows behind me. "I don't know about that." Thiago lay on his back across the bed and turned his head to look at me. "She can be a bitch but she can also be really caring too. You just have to get used to her." I nodded and sighed deeply. "Come to bed then, you must be tired. How's Matteo?" Thiago stood up and made his way over to the closet to change. "He's fine, he's just recovering. He's been shot before plenty of times." I rolled my eyes at the last comment and decided to check my phone whilst Thiago changed.

It was almost 5am when I checked the time; tomorrow is going to be a disaster, only Dominico and Mia and managed to sleep for most of the night; but that's if they actually fell asleep. Thiago and I got back around 1am and I had been lying awake all this time.

"How are you feeling?" I put my phone down just as Thiago got into bed next to me. "I don't know, I'm still in shock I guess. I don't know why I did that...I'm sorry if I scared you." He sighed and wrapped his arm around my shoulders pulling me closer to him. "You fucking terrified me Sophie." Thiago kissed my head and mumbled against my hair. "Don't ever do that to me again tesoro." I placed my arm over his waist while resting my head on his shoulder and closing my eyes. "I won't."

I gripped Thiago's hand as we walked into the living room where his family were all sitting. It was way into the afternoon when we woke up but we were still both exhausted; judging by the expressions of tiredness on everyone else's faces I'm pretty sure we weren't the only ones.

"Ah, finally they're awake." I gave Dominico a sheepish smile as Thiago and I took a seat on a vacant couch. I purposely avoided Carlotta's eye knowing she was staring at me and instead I turned my attention to Matteo. "How are you Matteo?" He gave me a grin.

"I'm fine Sophie, honestly the fuss last night wasn't needed. I've been shot plenty of times." I rolled my eyes at the exact line Thiago used last night. Both Thiago and Dominico chuckled at Matteo's comment; probably because they've both had their equal share of gun shot wounds too. They shouldn't be laughing though, this experience has made me more worried about Thiago keeping guns so close to him all the time, I'm definitely going to have to do something about it; I can't risk anyone getting hurt over something so stupid again - even if it was initially my fault.

"Thiago, Sophie are you hungry? I can make you some food. Everyone else has already eaten." We both nodded at Paola and she stood to her feet with a tired smile. "Would you like some help?" I let go of Thiago's hand for the first time since we left our bedroom and started to stand up but she quickly shook her head. "No dear, it's okay you rest." She gave me one last smile before leaving the living room just as Dominico deciding to speak.

"So what time did you two come home last night then? Mia said you took a long time to get back after the paramedics left with Matteo." I turned towards Thiago hoping he would have some sort of answer without actually telling everyone why we took so long. I'm pretty sure they'll find out soon enough with Carlotta being the only other one who knows, but for now I'd rather keep it quiet. "Uh..it was pretty late, I had to deal with some stuff first. I brought Sophie back around 1am then went to the hospital with Carlotta."

"Whatever it was, couldn't it have been dealt with in the morning?" Carlotta quickly added to the conversation to answer her father's question. "It was important stuff...with the event planner.." Matteo rolled his eyes at the obvious lie causing Carlotta to throw a cushion at him. "I don't care if you're hurt Matteo, I'm still older than you; don't roll your eyes at me."

The sudden change in conversation took the attention off of Thiago and I which I was glad about. Matteo and Carlotta continued to bicker whilst Mia and Dominico watched on in amusement. "What do you want to do today?" Thiago tried to start a conversation with me in an attempt to stay out of his family's bickering, he had a headache so no doubt he just wanted some peace as quiet. "I don't know Thiago, I'm pretty tired still. I don't feel like doing anything special." He nodded and rested his hand on my thigh whilst taking out his phone. Ever since we woke up this morning Thiago has been really touchy feely - in a caring way, not in a perverted way. I don't know if it was because of the close call last night or for another reason but I can't lie and say I wasn't enjoying it, because I was.

"Sophie." My attention was redirected to Carlotta who was staring at me intensely with her brown eyes. "I need to talk to you." I held her stare for a moment, all the different possibilities running through my head about how this could end. Either we'd become friends which I seriously doubt, or somehow she'd be nice to me which again I wouldn't put my money on, or she could be her usual bitchy, rude self, which I think is going to be exactly what will happen.

I nodded in response and followed her out the room feeling everyone's eyes on my back as we left. Carlotta decided to go into the other living room which no one really uses for some reason. "Close the door behind you." I rolled my eyes at her tone and closed the door before taking a seat across from her on the couch.

"Who the hell do you think you are?" I frowned at her in confusion. "What?" Carlotta glared at me, the same look of anger and disgust upon her face from the day I met her. "That little stunt you tried to pull yesterday you selfish bitch. You left my brother in tears because you wanted attention."

"Woah hang on a second, it wasn't for attention and Thiago isn't the victim here. Yes what I was going to do wasn't nice but it was his fault. He obviously didn't tell about how crazy he went at me after everyone left." Carlotta rolled her eyes. "Do you think I feel sorry for you Sophie? I couldn't care less if you ended your miserable life, I'd even give you the damn knife. But I care about my brother and for some reason he cares about you, so you better not hurt him." I scoffed at this, I knew she couldn't possibly care about me. She's a bitch and she will always be a bitch, probably because I married Thiago after he broke up with her best friend. If that's the case then she really is pathetic.

"Wow you really are a nasty piece of work Carlotta. You have no idea what I've been through with Thiago; how he took me from

my family, my friends and my job bringing me to a country where I can't understand shit. He's hit me and threatened me, then of course I was beaten up by Matteo; and that's just the short version."

"Don't forget who you're speaking to Sophie, watch you're fucking tone." I rolled my eyes and gestured in her direction. "That is exactly what I'm fucking talking about. He uses that line and expects me to just accept it, well Carlotta..." I stood up and stepped towards her whilst she just glared at me from her seat on the couch.

"I'm not scared of you and I'm not scared of Thiago. Say what you want to me, do what you want, I don't care. I've had enough of your family." Without waiting for a response I left her and went to find my husband, ignoring the uncomfortable ache in my ankle which I had been putting under such strain since last night. I was walking so quickly through the hallways that I ran right into the person I was looking for. Thiago's hand shot out to steady me when I collided with him. "Sophie what's wrong?" He frowned at the angry expression on my face which he's probably become very used to after our wedding.

"I'm done Thiago, I want to go home, today." Thiago sighed in frustration before glancing down the hallway where I had just came from, probably at Carlotta. "What happened?"

"Nothing, I just want to leave now instead of tomorrow." His eyes met mine and he frowned, I could tell he was pissed off but to my complete surprise he nodded. "Okay. I'll go and tell my mom, go and pack." Without waiting for me to respond he left me watching his retreating figure, in the corner of my eye I saw Carlotta giving me a stone cold glare. I rolled my eyes and made my way upstairs.
