Chapter 28: Chapter 28
"Prince, I have been waiting for you at the car pack. It is getting darker, or do you plan to sleep over?" Carl fumbled, trying to hide the frustration in his voice.
"We are leaving now." I responded, turning to him and back to the woman who wouldn't remove her gaze from me. It was just as if she was studying something about me that I couldn't actually understand.
"Good evening, ma'am." Carl sent his greetings to her in respect, smiling freely and forcing me to stare at him, confusedly wondering why he doesn't feel the same toward this woman.
"Oh, my son. You must be his assistant. How are you?" She responded with a cheerful tone and a bright smile that still looked pretentious to my eyes, yet Carl seemed totally blind to it as he gave her his response, undisturbed.
"What were you talking about with my prince that made him forget it was getting late to go home because this pack is quite far from our kingdom?" Carl asked, stealing a glance at me, and on seeing my frown, he slapped his hand over his mouth.
"Did I just ask something wrong?" He fumbled.
"No, my son, we were simply..."
"Carl, let's leave this place right away!" I cut in, angrily, turning and heading to the door while Carl hurried past me so he could open the car door for me.
"Goodnight, Alpha Jaden..." The woman spoke again, this last time, and that voice struck me strangely, forcing me to look back at her, but I could only see her back as she was already leaving.
My heart was thumping faster and I was feeling hot with sweat forming on my forehead and palm. Something wasn't right about her, and it is more confusing because I will sound so stupid for suspecting a woman who didn't look harmful.
Carl won't believe me at all if I tell him what I feel about her. Who would believe me when I tell them that this woman has an evil aura and must be planning something very bad for the pack.
Why was I the only one who felt this way toward her? The foreboding sensation that ran through my spine and over my entire body was really strong enough for me to know the woman wasn't a normal wolf and might be someone with dark powers.
As I got to the porch door, there were two guards flanking the door bowing to me, so I went to the one on the right.
"Did you see that woman I was talking to?" I inquired, and he nodded.
"Who is she?" I asked sharply.
"An Omega, that's all I know about her. But she was quite close to the Alpha before, but it seems the Alpha had warned her not to come too close to him, so she stays on her own." The guard explained politely,
"Why did Alpha do that?" I queried, wondering if he also felt what I felt.
"I don't know, Prince. I just heard that she lied to him to harm Ava." He answered, and I shuddered a bit at his response.
"What's that woman's name?" I demanded, quickly.
"Aurora..." He replied with a bow and couldn't say anymore words before leaving. The name really rang a bell in my head, but no matter how hard I tried to remember, nothing came in. My brain was just messed up.
Nana's POV
"Dad, did you see what Jaden did? Did you see how he stared at her eyes, completely enthralled. He is just trying to hide it, but I can see he is falling for this trashcan!" I yelled in exasperation and frustration as my cheeks burned with deep jealousy.
I was breathing heavily and my heart wouldn't stop pounding hard inside my chest. The Jaden I know will never force the Alpha to let Ava go scot free. The Jaden I know will never look at a girl so long as he just did. And, isn't it so clear that he talked to her gently while speaking harshly to others?
Ava was still on the floor there, waiting for the alpha to order her out, and all I felt was the greatest urge to draw out a sword from one of the guard sheaths and slit her throat.
The Alpha wasn't saying anything after my rant. He only went back to his throne and sat gently.
"Father, you are not..."
"Can you stop calling me Dad and father? Your parents are still alive or do I look like the Beta to you?" He shunned me, making my cheeks flush red with pure embarrassment and shame.
"Am I not worthy of calling you father?" I asked, sniffing the tears which had welled up in my eyes.
"I am sorry. My head is banging right now, and I need to sleep. I don't understand what is going on anymore." He grunted, standing up from his throne.
"Are you really going to let Ava go scot free when she is the major culprit who planned to poison me?" I whined, and he exhaled tiredly.
"You were here when I made the promise to the prince. So stop acting like I care about this garbage!" He snorted, hissing in frustration.
"But why would the Lycan prince make such a request for her if she is really garbage!!" I grumbled, fearing the fact that he might end up choosing Ava over me.
"I don't know, but from what we saw, I think he likes her somehow." The Alpha shrugged, moving his gaze to Ava.
"Stand up there!" He ordered her, and she stood without hesitation, but didn't look up at the Alpha. Her face was bowed to the ground with her messy brunette hair scattered over her face, making her look like a mad woman.
My eyes trailed over her entire body as I wondered what would have drawn the attention of the handsome prince. It was then that I recalled that Jaden was only looking at her face and must have seen those pretty eyes.
Oh fuck!
"It might be good news for you, you know?" The Alpha spoke to her, and I couldn't understand what he was insinuating.
"If the prince ends up falling in love with you, that would be great news for this pack and everyone here, as we would become the most powerful pack after being in alliance with the Lycans. Thinking about it now, I can say you will be the luckiest girl ever if eventually he falls for you and ends up marking you as his ma..."
"Never!!!" I jumped in, hitting the desk in anger and envy.
