Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Jaden's POV
"How am I wrong? It is obvious that her kind doesn't deserve to live. She was cursed from birth. Don't you think so?" Nana snorted, her tone sounding so frustrated.
I chuckled a bit, and just then, Carl's voice came in through mind link.
"I don't think it is safe to show any sign of care to Ava now. She is still in their possession and they can cause her greater harm once you make it clear that you like her." He whispered to me, and I nodded, realizing how true he was.
"I am sorry for interrupting whatever was going on here before I came, and to be honest, the reason I returned was to apologize for slapping her." I forced out those words, gritting my teeth as it really irritated me.
Nana gasped and stared at me with her eyes already getting wet as she couldn't believe what I just said.
"Are you serious?" The Alpha and Nana exclaimed in unison, and I nodded with a fake smile, which made Nana squeak with excitement.
My eyes glanced over to Ava, and I could see the shock and disappointment in her eyes as she kept looking at me.
"I am sorry for letting my emotions take over me. I shouldn't slap you for any reason, and I feel sorry for it. Am I forgiven?" I asked, and she shouted "yes," jumping like one who had gone mad.
"I was never angry with you! I am the stupid one for grabbing your hand," she purred, while I let out a shrug, glancing at Ava again.
"We dare not hold grudges over the prince," the alpha chipped in, smiling.
"I will be leaving now. It's getting dark. " I sighed, but Nana quickly walked forward and held my arm.
"Please stay for the night. We have many empty rooms, and.. "
"Please get your hands off me!" I said, curtly, struggling so hard not to punch her.
"Do you..."
"Get off me!" I yelled, pushing her away with so much force that I didn't even realize till I saw how she stumbled away, crashing on the table.
"I hate ladies touching me. Sorry for the push. "Alpha, we are leaving, but before then, I have a request to ask from you." I spoke out under my breath.
"Please go on."
"Promise me you will do it." I added, and he nodded.
"Forgive Ava for her crime and let her go for now. " I requested, and before he could give me a reply, Nana interjected.
"It seems you like this trashcan! You are really helping her now?"
"I just felt some random pity for her. Nothing close to likeness and it's disgusting to hear you say this now!" I snorted, turning back to the Alpha.
"What's your response?" I inquired, and he gave me a reluctant nod of approval, which really made me relieved.
"Carl, let's go..." I ordered and he headed to the door while I didn't make any movement as my eyes were back on Ava. Whenever I stare into those eyes, I get lost.
Those eyes were like a love charm, which instantly grasped my entire interest. I had never seen anyone with such pretty eyes. It's sapphire blue and won't stop glittering like orbs.
Whenever I looked at her perfect face, I would just find it so hard to take away my eyes because it felt like my soul was getting some kind of peace.
I had seen so many beautiful girls all my life, but this girl in front of me seemed too special to ignore. Everything about her was so alluring, enchanting, and overwhelming to me that I was so confused about why everyone hated her.
Even as she looked malnourished and unkempt with scraggly hair, I still saw her as a rare diamond covered in ashes. Her face appears angelic and innocent, denoting perfection and a level of royalty beyond the norm. I can't just explain it all with words.
Her eyes were the most exquisite part of her face, but they were filled with pain and rejection, which made me feel for her. The way she lay on the floor when I walked into the palace showed how miserable her life had been.
Her tears were flowing like a stream, and she was obviously staring at me like her only hope, as if the world was against her.
I had never cared for anyone before, and it feels so strange to see myself acting this way over a poor girl who wasn't my mate because I couldn't even smell her mating scent, not even the presence of her inner wolf.
Why her?
It is funny and absurd that I returned here not for anything but just to find another chance of seeing her face after missing it on the first visit.
The plan I had with Carl was to lie and say I came back so I would apologize for slapping Nana. I was ready to sacrifice my ego just to have a reason to return, so I'll see her face.
I intended to request that the Alpha bring Ava to the palace so I could meet the girl for whom he had obtained the wolfsbane and silver.
Gosh. I can't believe I am doing all this.
Now I came back here, only to see her crying after being treated so badly, and it seems the Alpha, her father, killed a very close friend to her, breaking her heart with guilt. It hurts me to see what she is going through, and I can't explain why.
"Prince Jaden!!" Nana screamed my name, and that made me cringe back to reality, only to realize I had been lost staring at Ava for a while.
"Can we start going?" Carl spoke out, and I nodded, rushing to catch up with him at the door without looking at anyone else.
My heart was just so heavy and I was suddenly furious within me.
"We have to help her!" My wolf couldn't hold back as it yelled at me.
"Yes, but not now. We have to think of a way. I can't just take her away... and don't you think it is fishy to fall in love at first sight after never having had a heart to love?" I replied, squinting my eyes.
"But we like..her." he stuttered, knowing how weird such words sounded to us.
"It's ridiculous. Isn't it?" I talked back, and we giggled.
I was almost out of the sitting room and heading to the exit door that leads out of the building when I heard someone's footsteps behind me, obviously from the stairs that lead upstairs.
From the footsteps, it was clear the person was rushing down, which made me turn sharply to check who it was.
It was a middle-aged woman clad in the brown gown worn by Omegas.
She got to the sitting room and paused as I swirled in her direction, and my eyes trailed from her feet up to her eyes, and I couldn't believe what I felt as our eyes met.
"You are Alpha Jaden, the Lycan prince." She smiled, but I couldn't smile back. Omnious shudders were rushing down my spine as her eyes, which looked so dark and dire, locked up with mine.
"Yes, I am Jaden, and who are you?" I found myself asking as everything seemed wrong with the woman in front of me. Her presence didn't seem right, and it was causing my inner powers to surge out.
"You sound rude, sir. I am a nobody and, as you can see with my attire, I am an Omega." She replied, maintaining her smile, which, for some unknown reason, appears creepy to me.
I am sure I haven't met her before, but why does she seem like a threat to me? I feel it when danger looms around me, and that exact way is what I feel now.
"You aren't just an Omega." I spoke out bluntly, walking closer to her with threatening steps, yet the woman didn't look scared at all. She didn't even take a step back, but still maintained her smile.
"Prince." Carl's voice came in at that moment, and I paused my pace, squinting my eyes as something crossed my mind.
This woman just called me Alpha Jaden, instead of Prince Jaden, which everyone calls me. It wasn't a big deal, but now that I think of it, I could vaguely remember in one of my strange dreams, there was someone very dangerous who had called me that in the past to mock me.
