Chapter 58: Chapter 58
Chapter 57
Elena Claw Wolfs ~
“I’m sorry!” Sofia said pulling me deeper into the hug. “All I have done up till this very moment has been to keep you safe and prepared.” She continued pulling me out of the tight embrace and looking at me straight in the eyes.
“Look at you? Anywhere and any day, I’ll be proud to say I raised you like a daughter of my own. I am proud of the young lady you have grown to become, Elena.” She declared still staring in my eyes. “And you have every reason to hate me for lying to you all these while, from the start.” She said but right now, I couldn’t bring myself to hate her anymore.
All I can feel towards her is guilt.
I realized that I have been concentrating on my pain so hard that I ended up pouring most of it on the wrong person. The one person who has been by my side through thick and thin, roses and thorns, ups and downs, A’s and F’s, my mother, Sofia.
Realizing all that she has done for me, I feel like the devil for having hated her for even a second. She may not be my birth-mother but she is the closest I have to one and she took up the job perfectly. If at all, she deserves to be praised and not what I am making her feel on the inside.
“I’m sorry too…” I managed to say to her in between silent sobs. “I…I…”
“You don’t have to tell me or apologize for anything. I understand perfectly, my child.” She consoled. “Wipe your tears Elena. I may not be your birth-mother as you thought but for one thing, no matter what, you’ll always have me. I promise!” she added with that convincing smile she always had capable of making all my worries go down the drain.
“Is it all over now?” Charlie asked peeking his head out of the space left behind from the ripped door.
“Yes, for now.” My mom said and immediately, I saw Charlie come out of the car.
He didn’t look all that afraid with all the lycans gone.
“Done hiding?” Gar asked curtly.
“Can you blame me? I don’t have any powers like you or Red. Oh right, Elena. I’m just a regular human and there’s no way I would have stood a chance with those… things.”
“They are not ‘things’ they’re lycans.”
“Whatever they are called. Whereas Gar, you were completely amazing. I never knew you had that in you. You know’ the ability to shapeshift into… into a lycan. I saw and heard everything while I was in there and my was it epic. If not that it was my reality, all that would have made great sales in a novel or even better, a movie.” Charlie chirped walking up to Gar.
“Thank you! You saved us. I wish I could be strong like you were but…”
Gar slowly transformed back into his human form. This time he seems different than the way he looked before he transformed into a lycan. Those looks in his blue eyes were no longer there. Fear? He seemed a lot more I don’t know, confident? More confident that he used to be. I’m so thankful that he completely turned himself into one of those lycans just to save me even though I don’t have the slightest clue how he did it.
I wiped my tears and looked tall with intent on doing the next right thing. It is clear now that our entire lives are going to change and not because of everything that happened today but because of what’s going to happen every other day.
“You’re welcome??” Gar replied Charlie still looking a lot confused on how he had morphed back to his old self. “What now? Sorry to break up the… everything but we still have to focus on the main point here. Elena, Cassius gave you fifteen minutes to get to his castle and right now, we only have nine to ourselves or should I say, you, Elena.” Gar continued talking to no one but Elena.
“You’re absolutely right! My birth-mother. I have to save her. I have to go! Mom, you know a lot of spells, teach me one, anyone, just as long as it can get me there in less time, so I can stop Cassius from…”
“No! Elena it’s a trap! Cassius is pulling you out, can’t you see that? There’s no way I’m letting you go alone! He is surely going to kill you the instant he sets his eyes on you and afterwards, make waste of Alessia.” Sofia cut in with worry written all over her.
“I don’t understand. My birth-mother is in pain and if I don’t show up he’s going to murder her like he did my father and you’re okay with it?” I alleged in a calm but possessive tone to Sofia.
“That’s not what I meant. What I’m saying is that… huh!” she heaved a sigh. “Cassius is drawing you out using the figure of your birth-mother. Yes, Alessia Claw Wolfs is your mother but that was a long time ago.” “I helped her deliver you and I watched her die silently after proclaiming your name with you in her arms.”
“Elena, Alessia is dead! Cassius may be powerful but he doesn’t have that power enough to bring back the dead. “ Sofia explained in a calm tone trying her best to make her words hurt lesser than they should. “He’s lying to you.”
“That can’t be true. When I looked into his eyes, I saw her. I felt her. I felt her pain. I felt a bond pulling me to her.” I replied doubting what Sofia had said about my birth-mother being dead. “She’s pretty much alive and kicking but Cassius is making her terribly suffer.”
“Elena, I hope you’re right and my best friend is alive because if you aren’t we’re going to be marching straight into a trap.” Sofia alleged with a bit of joy on her.
“Seven minutes!” Gar warned taking a look at Charlie’s phone.
“Don’t worry about the time Gar! Cassius mentioned fifteen minutes right? That means by my calculations…. We had a hundred and five minutes to be precise and now, ninety seven minutes to get there.” Sofia soothed Gar’s concern making him arch a brow.
Like Gar, we both are completely in the dark about what Sofia just said pertaining the time we have left.
“I don’t think he knows this yet but time works sort of differently on both worlds. For him, it must’ve been more than a century since I took you into this world but to me here, It’s just been sixteen years.” Sofia confirmed. “The spell you need to get there in time can only be casted with the scroll where it is contained. The power of that spell flows not only in the language of magic but that scroll as well.”
Now we understand most of what she said if not everything judging by Charlie who kept on nodding his head as she spoke.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have that scroll or any replicas of it with me. Not in this world, at least.”
“If you didn’t bring the scroll along, how did you hope on bringing her back? I mean taking her back to the supernatural world.” Charlie asked out of the blue.
“Let’s say I had brought that scroll here Charlie, I still won’t be able to open the magical portal and neither would she so why try anyway?” “Some spells have rules and One of that spell is ‘the witch who casted the spell with a particular scroll to open that portal must be powerful enough and most importantly, be the same to open the portal for those who walked in, to walk out.” She replied satisfying Charlie’ question.
“Our only hope now lies in the other portals that are used by the vampyre blood dealers in supplying our world with food from this one.” Sofia mentioned with a low tone.
“Why do you say that so sadly? Aren’t you their queen? Having them let us in wouldn’t be too hard for you now, would it?” Charlie asked putting more interest in his tone.
“I am but that’s not the issue. The issue is I don’t know of any blood bank here in New York and I haven’t seen one ever since I got here. They could be here but wherever they are, they’re well hidden from humans.”
The sound of blood made me have a thought as to what they need human blood for and most importantly, how they get it from humans. It must really be what they take as food. I’m pretty sure it isn’t by slaughtering them. No! that’s too evil and vampyres are good creatures of magic. Surely, Sofia and the king wouldn’t give them orders to go around slaughtering humans just because their blood is food to them.
“We have to hurry up. I felt my birth-mothers pain when Cassius had her stabbed with glass blades and for those brief seconds I shared with her, I can tell you that she is going through a lot of pain. Cassius won’t even let her heal from those pains because of… because of me?” I said in descending tone.
Am I truly the cause of her pain?
in the review section as it keeps me motivated and a direction to improve.
Lots of love, Ulric.
