Chapter 42: Chapter 42

Chapter 41

Red Adamson ~

“Thanks a lot, Garfield!” I said before leaning beside him and got my door unlocked using the central lock.

I gave Gar a slap on his face and got out of the car in tears. That was the first time in forever that I called him ‘Garfield’. I always enjoyed calling him ‘Gar’ but that was then. When I thought that I could trust him with all that I had.

Ever since I got down the stairs of my house and he had seen me, he has been acting very off towards me. It was as if he had become someone else on the spur of the moment. If I didn’t know any better, I would have concluded that he is head over heels in love with me.

Barely thinking about how he betrayed our friendship by at first, telling me that I belonged to him and again, planting a kiss on my lips just like that, made me regret ever agreeing to let him take me to tonight’s festivities.

All because of Charlie and Gar’s jealousy over our friendship.

I’ve known Gar all my life and not a lot of times has he shown feelings that were beyond friendship. I admit the fact that several times, in the past, I did feel something for him but that something just didn’t seem to be going to happen.

It didn’t work out.

Gar didn’t have to say it to me but the way he treated his rich girl-friends made me realize that I had no chance competing with them for his love. We were just close friends and nothing else and for some reason, his dad kept making sure of that.

Whether he knows it or he doesn’t, Gar has broken my heart once and I won’t give him the opportunity to do it again.

“Lies! All lies!” a female voice echoed inside my head. “Deep down, you know that Gar may have moved on with another girl after he left you broken once and you also know that in your heart, you may not say it bout or act on it but you never stopped loving him. NEVER ONCE!” the voice came again this time, it was louder than the first.

“Did you hear that too?” I asked halting a guy that had just passed me by.

“Hear what exactly? Besides the whole lot of cheers going on over there, I didn’t hear anything else.” The guy said before continuing his walk.

“He can’t hear me. Only you can! You heard me and you heard me right. Gar loves you and you know it. Of course he showed it in a way that right now, seems very uncomfortable to you but sooner rather than later, you’ll see that I’m right.” The voice came again.

“You need him and h needs you. You two belong together. It is fated!”

“Who’s there?” I asked turning in circles trying to find the person that was talking to me but it was pointless because everyone was out of sight.

They obviously were behind the noise coming from the parking lot. I have no idea why but for some reason, a lot of people in Halloween costumes are gathered round a group of cars.

“You’re not safe here. Something just happened in the supernatural world and it is important that you get back home this very instant. I anticipate that you’ll have a lot of questions that need answers but don’t worry. Your foster mother would explain everything once you ask her for the truth.” “You can either go home now using Gar’s car or have yourself killed in the process of singing those songs with the phoenix leader.”

“Aren’t you the girl that volunteered to be the lead female singer alongside Ryan?” Angos, a guy from my chemistry class asked as he walked up to me from behind.

“Yeah? Why?”

“Nice witch costume but don’t you think you’ll need something a bit more…. Fulfilling on you before you go out there and dazzle us with that voice of yours?” he asked walking closer and making me walk backwards totally oblivious of what he was talking about.

Angos was the leader of a gang of badboys at school. Rumor has it that his father is the head of a very renowned mafia gang and as expected, he does drugs. While at school, he does whatever he likes, whenever he like and with whoever he likes. He was literally untouchable.

All these are reasons enough for me to keep my distance when I am around him. I didn’t fear him but besides his brawny nature, I never felt safe around him. Maybe that’s because I never took the time to know him better. I’m absolutely certain that right now, he’s on something.

“Stop! You’ve probably had too much substance in your system, haven’t you?” I asked making a firm stop backwards looking at him straight in the eyes.

“Maybe I have or maybe I haven’t!” he said pushing his face closer to me.

“Get away from me, you pervert.” I gave him a slap more forceful than the one I had given Gar.

Just this night, two guys have attempted kissing me without my consent. Gar may have succeeded but certainly, Angos wouldn’t. Hardly standing beside him, I could sniff out whatever substance he was on and it was awful and choky to my lungs.

I ran into the school and across the hallway heading straight for the hall where the celebration was to be done with hopes that I would lose the idiot there but I ended up running into the girl’s bathroom.

“…..You’re going to pay dearly for that!” I could hear echoes of Angos’ voice from behind me.

Angos was catching up to me. Everywhere seemed to be empty of students. I wonder where everyone are. I reached for my phone but I couldn’t find it. I must have left it in Gar’s car before I left. All I found was my MP3 that contained the songs for the Halloween. I wanted to have Ryan listen to them.

“Help!!” I screamed to anyone who could hear me. “Get away! Leave me alone!”

“Got’cha!” Angos walked into the girls’ bathroom and with every step he made advancing to me, I found myself making mine in the opposite direction.

“Nowhere to run honey! Just come closer and it’ll be all over before you know it. I’m sure that you’re going to enjoy it as much as I would.” Angos said few meters away from the tile box that kept us both separated.
