Chapter 63: Chapter 63
Epilogue:
The Dark Council Vault
“Thank you for gathering here,” Miaka spoke to the general audience, her brothers and sister, gathered around a round table.
The vault was mental and every member was here through their sub-consciousness; but every decision made here was very much conscious. She had been able to create these mental vaults since she was a child and they became very useful as she grew up when she could arrange emergency Dark Council meetings without everyone having to be physically present. She had been influenced by the legend of King Arthur and his round table for his knights while designing the outline for this mental room, in which all the Knights bore equal power. Similarly, all Kings and Queen here were equal, even though they considered her their leader. Each King/Queen was also given a throne to sit on.
“We are here today to discuss a pressing issue at our hands.” Miaka looked to her right, at her brother Lancelin Eustein, who was nervous but determined. Today’s decision might change the future of the Dark Council forever. “Shall we commence?”
“We already know why we are here,” spoke Rihero Von Palestin, the dark haired, onyx eyed man who was known to be blunt as blunt can be. He was also the Dragon King, the ruler of the Reptilian dimension. “King Eustein had chosen a vampire as his mate and now it is up to us to decide on his fate.”
“Poetic much?” Spoke Lyric Von Crusader, the King of the Shifter dimension and a Lion. “Since everyone here already knows the details, what’s the verdict? I’m personally don’t mind him chosing a vampire mate as long as the question doesn’t arise about a hybrid child.”
“It won’t.” Lancelin spoke for the first time in a firm voice and even though his insides were summersaulting like the turbulant sea, none of his mental dillema showed on his face. “My mate and I have decided to adopt rather than have children of our own. We will not bring back the fears of the past.”
“Even if your mate does get pregnant with a hybrid child,” the Mystic Queen spoke for then, her voice husky and her powers unknown. “There is no guarantee that the child would be harmful. There were rumours that not all hybrids were harmful before the great divide.”
Several murmurs went around the room, some in agreement and some in instant disagreement. Miaka sciezed the opportunity to deal with another issue she knew might be inevitable in the future.
“I agree with you, Mystic Queen.” Miaka nodded in the direction of the white haired, pale eyed woman. “It is impossible to denote a child’s future right before it is even born. We never thought an Ancient, who had sacrificed his life for the sake of his people, would rise to devour his own people. We never thought that Mages, who are known as protectors of nature, would ever dare harm others or use sacrifices as a source of power.”
“It all sounds good for the sake of arguments, Miaka.” Rihero pinched the bridge of his nose. “But we need to be practical. And Lancelin seems to be in agreement about the hybrid agenda. Let them adopt and be happy. There’s no need to further complicate matters. I vote yes for Lancelin’s Vampire mate and since that is the main agenda of today’s discussion, let’s see how many of us are in agreement.”
“I agree.” Erick Stayton, the Vampire King nodded at once.
“I vote in favor.” Tanish Valdera, the King of underwater creatures known as Aqua, spoke then, nodding his agreement.
Soon, several others followed, agreeing or disagreeing to the proposal but since the majority had agreed, Lancelin felt relieved. As the meeting was over, one by one, they all disappeared from the mental vault, returning to their consciousness.
Miaka spoke again once everyone had left the vault except her and Lancelin. “That went well.”
“Better than I expected.” Lancelin sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Thank you for trying, but I think it’s better if we adopt a child rather than give birth to one.”
“No one can predict the future, brother.” Miaka shook her head. “And you know how much Sanaya wanted a baby of her own. I’m with you all the way but I cannot go against an unanimous vote from the Dark Council.”
“I understand.” Lancelin smiled at his younger sister. “Thank you.”
“The world is changing every day and one day, so must the Council.” Miaka told him. “Until then...let’s hope for a better future.”
