Chapter 62: Chapter 62
Chapter 61:
Sanaya’s P.O.V
The entire terrace was lit up like a Christmas tree. Fairy lights hung from the railing of the terrace and the roses were bordered with red fairy lights to bring them to life. Even the gazebo was lit up and there were red velvet drapes all around them to give us privacy.
But the biggest surprise was the table set in the middle of the terrace, right in front of the lotus shaped fountain. It has several food items, wine and even champagne and what appeared to be a red velvet cake, all surrounded by fresh plucked roses.
“Happy Birthday.” Lance whispered into my ears as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.
“Oh my God…” I whispered in surprise. “It’s November 3rd already? How could I have forgotten my own birthday?”
“I don’t blame you.” Lance said, still whispering so as not to ruin the serenity of the moment. “We have been through so much in such a short amount of time that everything feels like an eternity ago.”
I frowned. “You know…I don’t think I know your birthday either.”
Lance gave a short bark of laughter. “It’s April seventeenth.” He told me, still smiling. “At least that’s what my mother celebrates for me. When I was born, people didn’t bother remembering or celebrating birthdays. But my mother made it a point to remember both mine and Acelin’s.”
“Then from now on, I’ll celebrate your birthday too!” I kissed the bridge of his nose. “Shall we cut the cake?”
“Of course, it’s all yours.” Lance moved back to give me room and I immediately sprinted towards the table to the sound of Lancelin’s laughter. I love cake…don’t judge me.
I didn’t bother picking up any knives or silverware; instead I dipped my fingers into the cream cheese frosting and scooping up a fingerful, put it straight into my mouth…and moaned.
“Now I’m jealous of the cake.” Lance said as he came to stand next to me.
I scooped another dollop of icing and held my finger out for Lance. “Want some?” I raised my eyebrows and Lance caught my arm, bringing my finger to his lips as he took in my finger and gave it a slow lick that I felt down to my core. I shivered both from the cold autumn wind and from the sensual play.
“No distracting,” I warned him. “I want more cake. And how can I still eat normal food? Don’t vampires survive only on blood?”
“It’s like an Incubus. We eat normal food too but we derive energy from pleasure. Vampires derive energy from blood.” Lance picked up the knife that was tied with a pink ribbon and pricked his finger on the tip. The cut wasn’t deep but it caused a droplet of blood to appear and I felt my nostrils flare as my fangs elongated inside my mouth.
“Want some?” He raised an eyebrow, but without waiting for my eager reply, he dipped his finger into the icing and brought it to my lips. Instantly, I took his hands and sucked his finger into my mouth, moaning with pleasure as the blood mixed with the icing ran down my throat.
I watched Lance shiver in pleasure as I drew his finger out with a soft, wet lick. “No seducing.” Lance warned before he handed me the knife. “You wanted cake?”
“Yes, please!”
Taking the knife from him, I cut a gigantic slice and served it on a plate. When Lance gave me a look, I cut out a slice for him too. But when I placed the slice on the plate, I found something inside that cake that didn’t look like it belonged there. A large part of the cake was hollow on the inside and it seemed to have a dark coloured something inside it.
“What’s this?” I reached in and tugged out a small black velvet box…and immediate felt breathless. “Lance?”
He took the box from me and even though I knew what was coming next, I still felt faint when he knelt down on one knee and opened the box to reveal a gorgeous ring. It had a huge ruby at the heart with several diamonds making a ring around it.
“Sanaya Johnson,” he started. “You are the love of my life. Will you please do me the honor of marrying me and becoming my Queen and making me the happiest man in this dimension?”
Tears welled up in my eyes as my throat felt constricted with emotions. Damn it! Why was I being so emotional at such a magical moment? Lancelin was looking up at me nervously and in his eyes, I could see his devotion, his love. All for me.
“Yes.” I managed to choke out and a huge smile blossomed on Lancelin’s face as he took out the ring from its box and placed it on my ring finger and then he was picking me up in his arms and spinning me around as fireworks exploded in the sky.
“Look!” Lance pointed to the sky once he had set me down and I watched as the fireworks exploded in various colors, marking the sky with the words “She said Yes!”
I covered my face with my hands, laughing and crying at the same time as several shouts and whistles filled New York City. I had never felt as happy in my life as I did right then and I knew that our journey had just begun. Lance moved my hands and pulled me in for a kiss and I went into his arms willingly as fireworks continued to explode in the sky behind us.
No matter what decisions were made tomorrow about my future at the Dark Council meeting, I knew I would always have Lance by my side. Forever.
