Chapter 1544: Chapter 1544: Warmth

Su Yunjin fell silent.

Gu Ya added, “Yun-niang, if you want me to keep holding you , I don’t mind at all.” Gu Ya had guessed correctly that his little wife would listen, and sure enough, she quickly removed the small hand covering his eyes.

“Rogue!” Su Yunjin huffed at Gu Ya.

Gu Ya chuckled quietly, saying nothing.

Fortunately, Gu Ya was still somewhat a gentleman. Not only did he refrain from taking advantage of her while helping her get dressed, but he also swiftly helped her put on her clothes properly. Su Yunjin had thought that Gu Ya would use the opportunity to tease her; after all, he’d done such things many times before. But today, with Gu Ya being so obedient, it was the first time he behaved this way. Su Yunjin stared at him, her gaze filled with surprise.

Gu Ya feigned innocence and asked, “Yun-niang, staring at me —is it because I didn’t do anything to you that you’re disappointed?” He fixed his eyes on Su Yunjin, making her face turn red. “Who’s disappointed? Why would I be disappointed? You’re the one disappointed!”

Sulking, Su Yunjin pushed Gu Ya away. She hadn’t washed her hair yet! She had only taken a bath earlier, and after a month of not washing her hair, it had become sticky, greasy, and thoroughly uncomfortable. “I’m going to wash my hair.”

Su Yunjin called Aunt Liang to prepare hot water, and once everything was ready, she submerged her hair into the warm water and began scrubbing. Whether in the modern era or this ancient time, this was the first time Su Yunjin had gone so long without washing her hair.

She washed it twice, scrubbing thoroughly each time, using osmanthus-scented hair oil. After rinsing her hair, she spread a bit of the fragrant oil on it, leaving her hair fragrantly pleasant and wonderfully refreshing. After finishing with her hair, Su Yunjin used her own specially crafted herbal mask on her face. Her fair complexion became even brighter and dewy, looking as delicate as if water could drip from it just by touch.

Gu Ya didn’t have much to do today. While his little wife was in the room washing her hair and face, Gu Ya stoked the fire in the brazier until it burned vigorously. Then, he called her over, saying, “Yun-niang, come sit here. I’ll help you dry your hair.”

Her hair was still dripping wet since Su Yunjin hadn’t dried it after washing. Just as she finished washing her face, she glanced at Gu Ya, then slowly walked over. “Husband, let me find a cloth first for you to dry my hair with.”

Whenever Su Yunjin washed her hair, Gu Ya often helped her dry it. Since he tended to her so thoughtfully, Su Yunjin felt comfortable letting him do it. Now that he offered to help, she had no reason to refuse.

Gu Ya had already prepared a cloth in advance.

“Yun-niang, no need, I’ve got one.” Su Yunjin looked over at him and indeed saw the cloth he’d previously used to dry her hair in his hand. Without looking for another, she walked straight up to Gu Ya.

There was a small stool nearby. Gu Ya gestured for Su Yunjin to sit there. Once she was seated, Gu Ya gently held her head with one hand and used the cloth in the other to dry her hair. His movements were as gentle as ever.

Su Yunjin leaned comfortably against Gu Ya’s knees, letting him tend to her as he dried her hair. Her hair, freshly washed and scented with osmanthus oil, carried a wave of pleasant fragrance. As Gu Ya dried her hair, the aroma drifted intermittently in the air. Su Yunjin resting against him might have felt too cozy—perhaps it was the soothing warmth by the brazier—or maybe it was the tiredness overtaking her. Without realizing it, Su Yunjin slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep.

She mumbled incoherently.

Turning over slightly, Su Yunjin shifted her position.

Her cheek, illuminated by the flames of the brazier, glowed with a tender red hue.

Gu Ya’s heart stirred.

He lowered his head and kissed her.
