Chapter 205: Chapter 205
Every day under Julian Hawthorne’s peculiar way of feeding her, her weight just kept climbing. Luckily, frequent exercise kept it stable, otherwise she’d have turned into a pig by now.
Nanny Sutton, however, insisted she really had lost weight. "Miss, why don’t you just move back in? I’ll cook for you every day to nourish you back to health, and it won’t take long..."
Paige Sterling chuckled and was about to speak when Chloe Hughes interjected, "Sis, your servants are just so unruly. They should act like servants, shouldn’t interrupt when the host family is sitting here."
Paige immediately tossed an orange onto the table, glaring coldly at Chloe. "Nanny Sutton is part of the Sterling Family too!"
Yvette Hughes quickly agreed, "Yes, yes, we don’t have those rules in our house; Nanny Sutton is one of us."
Chloe felt embarrassed, dissatisfied with Paige’s attitude, but thinking of her purpose, she quickly put on a smile.
"Yes, yes, I misspoke."
Chloe said, "Paige, I heard that Aura is yours too?"
Paige glanced at Chloe, saying nothing.
Chloe continued, "Aura skincare products are really popular. Our beauty salon uses them too. Customers love them. Paige, you are truly amazing, how did you become so accomplished?"
Paige still did not respond, and Chloe went on.
"Look, Paige, didn’t your aunt open a beauty salon? Aura’s products are so good, I want to introduce them too. It would boost Aura’s reputation even more, and that’ll be beneficial for Aura. It’s a win-win situation, don’t you think?" Fresh chapters posted on 𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭•𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚•𝕟𝕖𝕥
Paige said, "You can contact Aura’s headquarters. I’ll let them know they can prioritize supplying you."
Like Penson, Aura was always out of stock.
Getting a hold of Penson products depended on internet speed and agility, and it was the same for Aura.
But that’s clearly not what Chloe wanted.
"Paige, we’re so close. No need to contact them, just deal directly with me. We’re family, why act like strangers?"
Paige made a noise of acknowledgment, "I only have a technical share, I’m not involved in Aura’s management."
Chloe laughed, "A technical share is great. Your aunt is just hoping for your technology to help revive the beauty salon. You’re a generous girl, this little favor you’ll surely help your aunt with, right?"
Paige raised an eyebrow, "So, you don’t want to buy from me, you want to take my skincare products for free? And you want the formula too?"
Nanny Sutton, standing by, understood Chloe’s intentions and silently cursed her shamelessness.
Figuring out a formula cost her miss how much effort? Chloe thought beautifully, wanting to snatch it for free without spending a penny.
But Paige wasn’t someone who could be taken advantage of easily, so Nanny Sutton wasn’t worried at all.
Chloe, however, didn’t feel there was anything wrong with her thinking, "We’re family, if I treat you as an outsider, doesn’t that mean I’m seeing you as one?"
Paige’s lips curled slightly, "You better treat me as an outsider."
When looking for a gain, you’re family, acting as if it’s all right and proper.
Usually, Chloe wasn’t so easygoing.
"Paige, saying that is not right. In the end, you’re just a girl. Why do you need to get into business? Just find a good man to marry. Giving your tech to your aunt is for your own good, to share some burden for you. And it’s not like your aunt is taking your tech for free. Think about it, you’re a girl, your vision is limited, but your aunt is different. She’s been working hard outside for years and is experienced. If she gets your technology, she can expand it. Don’t you want to see your technology go global?"
"I do, but I can do it myself. Why should I need an outsider’s help?"
Paige popped a strawberry into her mouth, "Since you think a girl shouldn’t meddle in business, aren’t you nearly forty now? Why haven’t you closed your beauty salon and married a man quickly?"
Do you think Chloe doesn’t want to marry?
Before Yvette got married, she never thought of marrying a great man.
But after her sister remarried a top-tier billionaire, ordinary men no longer appealed to her.
Using her ties with the Sterling Family to open a beauty salon, she viewed herself as a career woman, seeing mediocre men as beneath her.
The outcome was that her standards were sky-high, the men she fancied didn’t like her, those who liked her, she wasn’t interested in. At nearly forty, she remained single.
At this moment, Paige’s words made her expression rather unpleasant.
"Paige, your aunt had no choice but to depend on herself due to a tough life from a young age. If I had your circumstances, why would I strive so hard? What woman wants to face the elements? Which woman doesn’t want a man to care for them?"
She wiped away tears, "Your aunt didn’t choose her birthright, so she could only rely on herself. What else could she do? You have your condition, so you should enjoy it. Leave the hard work to your aunt."
Paige didn’t speak, and Chloe added, "Paige, your aunt is saying this for your own good; don’t overthink it..."
"Thank you for your thoughtfulness, but I think on further reflection, leaving such hard work to others isn’t good; I can handle it myself."
Did she think she could ask for someone’s technology just like that?
Realizing Paige wouldn’t budge, Chloe became anxious, "Paige, your tech business is just starting. You need to take it step by step, regarding Aura’s issue..."
"Research never stops, and there’s no need to pick a time; when it feels right, it’s right." Paige stood up, "No need for concern, Ms. Hughes."
Then, she went to the kitchen to help Nanny Sutton.
Chloe gritted her teeth, unwilling to give up, but Yvette mentioned Jared Sullivan would return soon.
Now Chloe trembled at the thought of him, hardly daring to face him, so she had to leave.
But before leaving, she habitually sowed discord, instilling in Yvette that Paige could completely let her stepmother run Aura, but Paige hadn’t, implying Paige didn’t respect her stepmother.
Yvette said nothing and just saw Chloe out.
Chloe, seeing Yvette’s lack of will, scoffed, "You never fight or compete. When you have a son someday, let’s see what you do then!"
The mention of a son showed a subtle change in Yvette’s expression.
With a huff, Chloe departed.
She couldn’t understand why the Sterling Family was so wealthy, yet Paige still wanted a tight grip on everything.
Couldn’t she just help her relative? Wouldn’t everyone getting rich together be better?
In the evening, Jared Sullivan returned, and Julian Hawthorne joined for dinner too, with the family gathered around the table.
Paige served Jared some food, "Dad, have some more."
