Chapter 41: Chapter 41
It was early in the morning when my bedroom door busted open revealing Rosamund with a smile stretched on her lips. Her wavy hair fell down her waist elegantly, swaying along with her beige dress that fell shortly at her ankle.
“Good morning, mother!” She greeted me with a cheerful tone.
A chuckle escaped my lips when she jumped onto my bed beside me. I raised the duvet to let her in under the warm sheets. I heard her giggle and moved closely towards me.
“Morning to you too, princess.” I replied with a smile.
A sigh of relief escaped from her lips as we cuddled in silence. Only the sound of her breathing can bring me peace and joy at the same time.
“I love you, mother. Please don’t leave me again.” She whispered against my chest with her eyes closed tightly. I continue caressing her locks with my fingers.
“Oh, princess. I will never be able to leave you again.” I murmured against her forehead.
Her eyes opened, “Really?” I could see happiness in her emerald eyes, it made my heart melt for a moment. I figured Cassius had told her already about me losing my memories.
“Really,” I chuckled, hugging her as tightly as I could.
“Mother!” She squealed trying to wiggle from my hug.
I pulled away laughing; her hair now looks so messy. She quickly fixed her hair, combing the tangled strands with her fingers while glaring at me.
I can only laugh at her adorable frown, “Where’s your father?”
“He’s talking to Aunt Vee in the dining hall,” She answered
My brows shot up, “Huh, and what are they talking about?” I grinned and playfully tucked her loose strands behind her ear.
“About the incident yesterday I think,”
I raised my brow. Cassius must be worried. I forgot to tell him what happened that night but I was too tired to even move from my bed.
“That necklace,” I pointed at the silver locket hanging around her neck. Now that I see it up closer, I noticed the rose carvings on the cover of it. It also has these small leaves and thorns. It looked so old yet beautiful.
Rosamund looked at the locket and held it between her delicate fingers,
“Oh, this. Father gave it to me. I think it’s yours.” She smiled and slowly opened the locket.
It showed a picture of me and Cassius. The moment I saw my face, my heart started to thump loudly in my chest. My eyes began to hurt, wanting to shed tears. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I looked at myself in the locket. Cassius was towering behind me. His arms were loosely wrapped around my small figure while his lips were stretched into a charming smile. My hair was braided with flowers. I could recognize the sheer joy reflecting from my eyes in that picture. I was happy with Cassius.
“Do you remember?” Her voice came out soft and concerned.
I shook my head slowly, “I don’t but I’m sure we were happy back then and we really love each other. That’s enough for me.” I smiled weakly.
“I’m sure you will remember after a date with father,” Her giggles echoed inside the room.
She slowly got up from the bed. “A date?” I asked, clueless about the matter.
Rosamund nodded her head, grinning from ear to ear.
“I have arranged a date for you two out in the forest ruins. Father mentioned it was your favorite place here in Syrr.” Rose beamed.
I was about to open my mouth but she cut me off, “Mother, do you hear that? I think Aunt Vee is calling my name. She wants me to feed her cat, Delilah. Bye!” Rosamund sped up and left my chamber.
That kid, really!
I spent time with my usual routine, washing up and then changing into another set of clothes. The closet was almost empty because I will be moving to Cassius’ room in a few days. Some of my dresses were transferred to his chamber.
Well, the queen decided about the matter since most of the people here in Syrr know that their prince was married and that his wife has come back. So to tell you shortly, we will be sharing a room for the sake of the royal family’s reputation.
A couple knocks came at my half-opened door, “Hey, are you all set?” Cassius asked, his dark green eyes bore at me.
I scanned myself in the mirror and nodded. I changed into a simple flowy dress that falls a few inches from my ankle. The silky and lacy fabric made the dress look even more regal.
“Yes,” A smile stretched my lips when I felt his arms around me. He knew well how to kiss affection to my being. I may not remember the times I’m with Cassius before I lost my memories but if we’re talking about love here, I must say Cassius isn’t difficult to love. He’s a great man and surely he will become a great king in the future. Perhaps, I am slowly falling for him. He is after all the only person who helped me the most.
“Cassius,” I called
“We have to go to the forest ruins,” I said, wiggling from his back hug. I badly want to see the place, my favorite place as Rosamund told me.
I heard him groan, his nose caressing the crook of my neck.
“Can’t we just stay here?”
I elbowed him on the ribs, “Nope!” I heard him moan in displeasure, he rubs his ribs and scowls at me.
“That hurts.” He whined, a pair of emeralds glaring at me intensely.
I rolled my eyes, “Stop whining like a baby, I’m parched.” He can be a tad dramatic sometimes when in need of attention. I have a hard time reminding myself that he is a thousand year old vampire who will soon be the next king of Syrr.
“I want to go see the ruins after we have our breakfast.” My lips twisted into a smile before walking out of the room.
“Consider it done, love. Whatever it is my wife wants,” I could hear him whistling as he followed me in the hallway.
On our way to the dining hall, I can’t help but to feel anxious as I will be meeting the Queen. I see her sometimes around the castle but I still feel a bit intimidated although Cassius has told me that the queen and I were once close, inseparable even. I wanted to look presentable so I styled myself up a bit.
“Uh, how do I address her again?” I bit the inside of my cheek nervously.
Cassius laughed, “You know how. Don’t worry you are going to be just fine.” After he said that, we reached the dining hall. A servant greeted us and he pushed the huge double doors open. The Queen was staring outside the window with a goblet in her hand.
The King was nowhere inside the hall. Cassius has told me that the king seldom walks around the castle due to his works. He would sometimes show up to dinner but he often stays in his office.
“Mother,” Cassius called, approaching the queen by the curtains. I followed behind Cassius. She was looking at Rosamund who was busy playing in the rabbit fence with Lilana.
The Queen spoke, “She has grown so beautiful and strong,” The queen turned her heel. Her emerald eyes stared back at me intently. Her aura is really beyond majestic. From the way she carries herself, and her elegant gestures.
“Rosamund will be a great queen,” Her long black dress has these red and gold details on them. I must assume her wardrobe has only clothing made with very fine materials. Not to mention the excessive amount of stones and gold covering her neck and wrists.
She took a few steps closer with a smile playing on her blood red lips. The Queen raised her goblet to her chest, eyeing me carefully.
“Your Majesty,” I bowed lowly.
There was an awkward silence for a moment but then I heard the queen let out a sweet chuckle.
“Welcome back, Feyre.” My lips rolled out of her mouth smoothly as if she knew me so well. There was this overwhelming feeling inside me that left me dumbfounded for a moment.
“Come my dear, you must be famished.” Queen Vittoria gestured towards the long table filled with various delicacies and a jar of blood.
“Feyre,” Cassius called, pulling me out of my daze.
He then pulled up a chair beside him. I thanked him and sat on the seat.
“Would you like tea, dear?”
Cassius shot me a look, waiting for my response.
I pressed my lip, “Um, I don’t really like… tea.” I smiled awkwardly.
Queen Vittoria raised a brow, “Hm, it’s a pity that didn’t change.” She let out a sly smile.
“You never did like any of my tea, dear.” The Queen laughed
“Oh,” I laughed as well.
“You used to accompany me in the boutiques. I did like your taste in clothing.” Queen Vittoria smiled genuinely as she took a sip from her cup.
I could only smile weakly as she recalled her memories of my old self.
“I’m really sorry that I don’t remember,” I looked down at my goblet.
“No, no dear. It’s alright. You will remember eventually. In the meantime, would you be alright accompanying me again?” A smile graced her lips again as she looked at me warmly.
“Yes, of course. I would be delighted, Your Majesty.”
She nodded her head gracefully, pleased at what she heard.
