Chapter 40: Chapter 40

I saw two men dragging Rosamund by her arms. There were six of them in this narrow alley. The fact that these vampires dare to even touch Rose made my blood boil instantly.

“Rosamund!” I called, struggling to wiggle my arms from this man’s grip. There were two men with me. The other man was busy tailing us, a cigar placed between his fingers; he looked younger than his friends. He was a look out, watching people who pass the alley making sure no one dares to walk in.

“Quiet!” The stranger exclaimed, extremely pissed.

I glared at him when his grip tightened even more. If only I had my power right now, this man would be burnt to the ground but unfortunately I can’t do that now. I have to fight one way or another. I may not be that good at fighting but I have to try if I want to save both of us from these goons.

“Ah!” I heard someone scream from where they took Rosamund.

Then I saw Rose’s silhouette moving at lightning speed as she fought the four vampires. The two men who dragged her were easily knocked down dead on the ground with their arms broken. Even with only a little light, I managed to see the pool of blood on the cold cement.

“Who sent you?” Rosamund’s voice echoed in the alley, the softness of her voice a while ago was gone and replaced by a strong, demanding tone.

“If you wish to kill the princess with only six vampires, you have underestimated me.” It was then when I saw a flicker of glow in her eyes; emeralds now tainted in blood red. They were darkening even more as she strides in a very slow and graceful pace.

There came the silence; the two started looking at each other in fear. I could see the hesitance in their movements, contemplating whether or not to challenge the princess. These goons have picked the wrong victim tonight and they realized it just now.

“Nonetheless you chose a great place to die,” Rosamund smirked, eyeing them.

The first one aimed to punch Rose’s stomach but she quickly dodges it. Rose was about to attack him but the other one ran towards her. Rose managed to see him coming and tapped him on his shoulder. In a swift second, the man’s shirt was caught on fire. Soon later, the man burnt his neck as he screamed in agony trying to put out the blue flames but it just wasn’t working. The flames were getting bigger and they were starting to eat his whole body. Now being swallowed by the fire, the man kneeled helplessly and then he just dropped on the ground with white smokes appearing from his burnt flesh.

Rose glanced away, scanning her surroundings and found the remaining vampire staring at his friend in shock. I was surprised at what’s happening right now. This is crazy. Rose didn’t spare a second to swiftly move behind the vampire and snapping his neck. The man fell on the cement with a thud.

The smoke covered the air, leaving the bodies hidden from the huge white puffs. I saw a shadow walking towards my direction.

“Mother,” Rosamund seemed surprised as she looked at me. Then I heard a loud thud just behind me, like a body dropping on the cement. I turned my heel and I was right. The man holding me a while ago is now lifeless; his whole body was shaking as if he’s experiencing some type of seizure with blood spurting out of his mouth. I can see his veins sprouting from his skin. The scene was just horrifying.

With my mind running of strange thoughts, I looked at the body blankly.

“Are you alright, Mother?” Her soft voice filled my ear.

I nodded, my gaze still fixated on the body.

“He’s been poisoned.” Rosamund watched the body as it slowly liquefies.

Rosamund and I stared at each other for a moment. I didn’t just do that, did I?

“How did you do that?” The young man spoke, staring at me with widened eyes; I almost forgot he’s still here.

“You wish to join your friends?” Rosamund snapped, darting dagger-like stares at the poor man. He was shaking and all, he might pee himself because of agitation.

The poor young man shook his head abruptly and took off in a hurry.

“Well, what do we have here? Oh, great! Another chaos, really Rose?” We heard a feminine voice approaching us. I looked over to see a woman with short bob hair dressed stylishly with her black heels and maxi dress.

“Aunt Vee,” Rosamund called her aunt with a smile.

“You guys hungry? Let’s go have a drink!” Vienna said, grinning.

I pressed my lip, “What about them?” I pointed at the dead bodies Rose just burnt.

“Oh, that. Bastian will take care of it.” Vienna looked at the man standing just a few meters away from us. She then raised her hand and gestured at the bodies, mouthing something.

We left Bastian, Vienna’s personal guard along with some castle guards to take care of the scene. Vienna leads us to a very classy restaurant which she mentioned is her all time favorite. They serve a really great meal and of course, blood and also some wine Vienna ordered.

There were people who recognized the two royal princesses as to why they were either silently staring or whispering about us. Some simply ignored us and minded their own. Well, I can’t really blame them. Even when Rose’s blood red hair is hidden with her cloak, they still recognize the beautiful pair of emerald eyes.

Vienna excused herself to the restroom as we waited for our wine.

“Mother, I must ask about your friends.” Rosamund spoke as we ate.

“My friends?” A smile graced my lips at her sudden question. However, as far as I know I didn’t have many friends. I had one but not anymore.

Rose nodded, “Yes, the ones in the castle’s dungeon. I heard my father put them there.” She looked at me with emeralds that sparked with curiosity.

“They’re not my friends anymore.” I replied, shortly.

Vienna came back from the restroom. “We should probably go home,” I spoke after the waiter filled our glasses with the wine Vienna ordered.

Vienna nodded, “Cas actually told me to find you two and it’s been hours he’s probably raging by now.” She burst into fits of laughter making me laugh as well.

“Are you drunk?” I asked, laughing.

Vienna shook her head, “Oh, honey. Unfortunately, we can’t get drunk.”

“But she can,” Vienna pointed at Rosamund playfully.

Rosamund scoffed, “I can only get drunk after like forty seven bottles. I still have higher tolerance than humans, Aunt Vee.”

Vienna rolled her eyes, “Be grateful you can get drunk,”

The conversation ended with the two of them bickering. It feels like I’m going out with kids when in fact I’m with an eighteen-year old hybrid and a hundred year old royal vampire. I badly just want to go home right now. They’re too much to handle. I wonder how Cassius put up with these two.

“Quit talking and let’s go home,” I snapped at them.

We were accompanied by two castle guards on our way back to the castle. I’ve never been more grateful as soon as we got home safely. Vienna took Rose back into her room while I made my way towards my chamber.

I opened the door to see the room empty. Cassius is nowhere to be found. So I went straight to the bed and lay down. A sigh of relief escaped my lips. It’s been a long day.

Tiredly, I closed my eyes; but before I fell asleep, the thought of them being in the dungeon as Rose had mentioned appeared in my head. Cassius hasn't told me about that.
