Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Red strands embraced me with warmth and her soft whispers of comfort. Beneath me lay the coldness of the grass and dew. I inhaled the fresh, cool air along with her sweet scent. The fog wasn’t enough to block my view of her sympathetic look. Her pale, porcelain skin contrasted her blood red hair.
“You won’t remember a thing once you wake up, my dear sister,” Her murmurs were like soft howls of the wind, breathy and mellow so different from her personality.
My legs shivered at the wet ground, “Why are you helping me? I have committed a sin, Fallon.” I paused, suddenly out of air.
I watched her blink innocently; her lashes were long and dark. She possesses a pretty face; with her vibrant silver gray orbs, blood red lips, small pointed nose and a heart-shaped face. But I knew better to fall for her innocent smile, she is anything but innocent.
“Why would you let me escape?” I asked with a shaky breath.
Fallon leaned in closer to the side of my head.
Her lips kissed my ear, “Because we are sisters,” The low tone of her voice was enough to make one shudder.
I am on the run for my life, literally. However, as her whispers grew softer, the weight of my eyelids became heavier. The next thing I knew, I fell into a deep slumber in the cold comfort of the forest.
“Sleep, my twin sister. Adventure awaits as you awake.” Her low chuckle echoed in my head, repeating nonstop.
My eyelids flew open when I heard metals clinking with metals. I then met a pair of amber eyes that held void. It was like I appeared to be nothing in front of him.
“Sage,” I muttered his name, surprised by his sudden presence.
I thought they had abandoned me. I looked over to Saskia’s cell and her body is decaying now. It’s been what, days? I am in the same scent as all the rotten bodies in the basement. I am as filthy and dead as them. Well, I’m not yet dead but give me a couple of weeks and I will be as dry as these skeletons.
“Saskia is dead,” I utter, my voice echoing inside my cell.
He ignored me and unlocked the cell and went inside. He stepped over the dead rats and raised my arm. My whole body seemed to not function due to weariness and starvation. He changed the fluid with a new one since the former is already empty.
“What are you doing to me?” I asked, it was almost a whisper.
Sage brought a spoon over my lower lip; the cold metal has a delicious scent.
“You need to eat,” Sage mumbled. I have never seen Sage this cold and emotionless. He’s like another version of Ambrose in front of me.
My lips parted and he made me swallow the spoon of soup. The taste of warm soup made my taste buds happy. I am craving for more. How I wish I wasn’t wrapped in chains and had to indulge his soup right now. The spoon met my mouth so slowly and I was growing impatient. I wanted to eat the soup myself. Like a caged animal, I became.
“Slow down,” He managed to say as if he cares about my state right at this very moment. He doesn’t care whether I spill the soup all over my mouth. I am their prisoner right now; they will always treat me as one at the end of the day and the day after; because I am nothing to them but a stranger who killed their friend.
I should stop getting my hopes up and get the hell out of this place. Right after Sage had finished feeding me, he immediately got out and locked my cell. I was left in the cold again, with Saskia’s dead body filling my nostrils with a faint, disgusting smell. It’s only a day and she’s already starting to smell, my throat aching to retch again.
A curse escaped my parted lips when I saw blood on the ground. I spat and vomited all over the place, the sickening feeling wouldn’t stop. I cried in pain when my head started to hurt again.
Until my eyes began to tear up, slowly I was deep in darkness.
The routine continues, I would wake up to vomit and faint again from the piercing pain in my head. Then, Sage will enter my cell and feed me again. For some reason, I was weak and I couldn’t use my powers. Undoubtedly, the violet fluid inside my veins has something to do with it.
I have forgotten what day it is. The only thing I am sure of is that every day is a living hell here. There was not a day that I was out of a nightmare. I am starting to lose blood from all the puking. The basement reeked of blood and decaying corpses, as well as my stinky smell. White dress now turned into a dark shade of red from all the dried blood and splashes of green water. I am so dirty and they won’t let me out of this cell. I haven’t taken a bath for like a month now.
Suddenly, the image of the redhead lady popped in my head. She had blood red hair too like me and that woman named Fallon who appeared in my memories. We were so identical. From the pale complexion to the color of our hair, we were like she says. Maybe we are really sisters?
The memory was so vivid. I am certain that my memories are now coming back, slowly. I just have to wait patiently and try not to die early if I want to recover all those lost memories.
“Please let me out,” I mumble in a low tone. I have no energy to scream. My body is getting weaker as time passes by. I’m afraid one of these days I couldn’t move a finger anymore.
Again, they won’t listen to me. Even when my body is shivering because of the cold weather, they wouldn’t know and they couldn’t care less. It’s snowing outside and ice spikes were to be seen in the frame of the window. Snow has entered the room already. I am pretty sure if I don’t die here because of blood loss, I would definitely die of hypothermia.
My gaze landed at Saskia’s rotting body. Poor girl, she didn’t get a chance to be loved by Izaac and instead, they imprisoned her here like an animal and even blinded her. I can’t believe I trusted these so-called friends of mine. I really thought they were my friends, I forgot they were vampires. Bloodsuckers that feed on anything that pumps with blood. They are predators in nature, very far from being human.
