Chapter 24: Chapter 24

It's a bright and snowy morning but I feel horrible. I put both of my hands on the side of the sink, breathing heavily. The vomiting would not stop. I often feel lightheaded even when I just rested all day.

Ambrose said that I'll feel better if I take the pills and rest. So I did that in the past few days yet I haven't felt any better.

I stared at the tray of food on my bedside table. I have no appetite but then if I don’t eat, my body will be weak. So I have no choice but to grab the tray and start eating. I have to stay alive if I want to recover my memories.

There’s still a part of me that believes that I can remember and that I’ll get through this. Once I remember, maybe I can leave the castle for good.

“Yes, that’s the plan right?” I mumbled to myself as I got up the bed.

After taking my breakfast, I pulled the drawer of my bedside table and stared at the pill bottle lying there. I grab the bottle and pop one pill inside my mouth. I need to at least try before I die.

Today, I decided to go outside just to walk around since it's sunny and Gideon is also practicing combat with Daniel. They're fun to watch as they go sprinting and fighting.

Minutes later, I felt sleepy so I closed my eyes for a moment.

“Feyre,” The redhead lady whispered, her breath warm on my ears.

“You shall leave,” Her voice filled my head again. I see her blurry face everytime I close my eyes, it's disturbing.

“Now!” She screamed on top of her lungs. Suddenly, the wind blew on my face; a burst of light came from her body. I saw her eyes; they were in a beautiful shade of light hazel with gold flecks on them.

I let out a yelp. Then a tap shakes me to reality. It looks like I fell asleep on the huge roots of this dead tree.

A gasp escaped my lips as I recognized Gideon's bright blue eyes staring down at me, his lips sipping from a blood bag. His Adam's apple bobbed up and down. My throat suddenly tightened at the sight, I might throw up on his shoes.

“Gideon! Don't drink blood in front of me, please. Oh, god! I'm going to throw up.” I block my mouth using my palm, trying not to puke.

“Sorry!” He laughed and walked away.

With wobbly legs, I tried to stand up and held the tree for assistance. I walked towards the garden, all the bushes were covered in snow; they're almost dead, with just the roots and branches. It's a waste that I did all the gardening for these roses, now they're gone.

A loud clanking of metals made me jolt up in surprise. The noise continues and I think it's coming from the castle's basement. There's a back door that leads to the basement and inside the castle.

I was about to walk further when Daniel stopped me.

“What's in the basement?” I asked, eyeing the stairs down to the back door of the basement.

“Just a boar we caught.” Daniel said, staring at me for a moment.

I nodded slowly, “Oh, it's not dead yet?” Most preys they feed onto were most likely to be dead and later will be put into blood bags.

“Well, Ambrose likes it fresh tonight.” He stated, stretching a hesitant smile.

I didn't ask any further and excused myself. He’s lying. I shrugged the thought off. Maybe it’s something important that they wish to not tell me. It’s not like I’m not used to them not telling me things. I thought maybe they stopped helping me recover my memories.

I went back inside my room and sat on the bed, thinking about what the redhead lady said. She kept on saying that word. She wanted me to leave but why? I don’t trust her words like I don’t trust anyone but myself. But I simply can’t ignore it. Those hazel eyes were so familiar, almost similar to mine.

Is she family? I have no freaking idea. If she’s here to help me, she should at least tell me her name.

I let out a deep breath, “I think I’ll just die.” I murmured before I buried my face onto a pillow, screaming in frustration.

The sky had darkened and the moon was out covered by gray clouds. I went out of my room to fetch a glass of water. I was walking in the hall but I stopped on my tracks when I heard footsteps and voices just outside of Ambrose's study.

“I can't read her mind now like I've said.” It was Daniel's voice, I'm certain I can hear anger in his tone.

“She must have done something.” A baritone voice stated.

They went silent for a while.

“I will be out tomorrow morning. Make sure she rests and takes the pills.” Ambrose stated before he dismissed Daniel.

Slowly and carefully, I went back to my room. All of a sudden, I don't think I'm thirsty anymore. My heart is racing, I couldn't find my breath.

My back is behind the door. I just hope they didn't notice me eavesdropping.

But what Daniel said, is it true?

Daniel could not read my mind? How is that possible?

Listening to them talking in private, they sounded so serious. Daniel was unusually annoyed; maybe it's because of the fact that he could no longer read my mind? Although every time I see him, he's always calm and collected, he rarely shows emotions.

I waited in my room for a couple hours, thinking. Then I finally got up from my bed. I turned the knob and stepped outside my room. I looked around the hall and saw no one. So, I tiptoed until I reached the kitchen.

Now, I'm thirsty. I fetched myself a glass of water and gulped it down.

My ears strained when I heard yet another noise coming from nowhere. These strange noises again. Seconds later, the noise grew loud. I noticed it’s coming from the stairs down the basement.

What the hell? The boar is not dead yet?

I tiptoed again and walked towards the staircase. I peeked down into the dark room. It's quiet now. Am I hearing things? I heard the chains just now though.

“You should be asleep.” A baritone voice boomed inside the dark basement.

“What brings you here in the middle of the night?” Slowly, the man appeared and took a few steps towards the stairs where I'm at.

“Shit! You startled me.” I let out a sigh of relief after I saw Ambrose's usual stoic face.

Seeing his eyebrows shot up, he is waiting for my response.

“I was uh, thirsty. So I wanted to get water.” I explained, my pale lips quivering in shock from a while ago.

“Everything's good here.” He said, reassuringly.

There was a moment of silence. Then I nodded my head slowly, not making eye contact. I can feel his gray eyes darted on me as I look down at his feet. Ambrose can really make one feel uncomfortable. I can feel his power every time he speaks.

“Now, sleep.” He whispered into my ear. It tickled me before I felt a bit lightheaded again. I collapsed in his arms. Just like that, I was pulled back into darkness.
