Chapter 21: Chapter 21
“It’s cold, wear this.” Gideon handed me a rugged, brown cloak.
After tying the cloak around my chest, he helped me get to the seat on Fergus’ back. Yep, the horse’s name is Fergus. It has long, silver hair; his skin is like the color of ashes.
Gideon sat behind me. I didn’t know Gideon owns a horse. I’m surprised there’s even a horse in the area knowing this is a town of vampires. I guess they use horses for transportation as well.
“The market is not that far. We can return before sunset.” Gideon reassured. I can already sense his wide smile even though I can’t see his face as he is right behind me.
Gideon pulled the reins and the horse started running.
“Can I ask you something?”
Gideon chuckled, “Sure, what is it?”
“What happened that night after the incident?”
Silence enveloped us for a good few seconds. Only the sound of Fergus’ thunderous footsteps against the snowy ground were heard.
“Well, we got home after that. The King was livid though. Wolves are forbidden to step foot inside Syrr. At this point, the Baltimores must have tightened the security in the castle by now.” He explained.
I read about that one.
There are barriers around Syrr since it is the home of royalties. The security in that town is much more complex compared to Emberton and the other neighboring towns. Syrr is the capital town and known to be the richest; it is inhabited solely by elites and powerful vampires.
I heave a sigh. It seems like reading books can really help me survive here.
The journey to the market was about five minutes or less according to Gideon. We have yet to pass the river leading to the town square.
When we spotted the wooden bridge, Gideon held Fergus on his neck to slow him down.
“Come on, bud.” Gideon caressed the horse's silver hair gently.
The river was frozen and I think by the sound of the wood, the bridge is pretty old. That's why we have to be careful, the bridge might collapse with our weight.
Finally, minutes later we arrived at an inn. A hostler named Thomas welcomed us. Gideon left Fergus to Thomas. The stable was just a few walks from the town square so we had to walk there.
“So where are we going?” I giggled, clasping my hands together while looking around.
There's a huge fountain at the center of the town, with birds flocking at its peak. Then we're surrounded by small houses. Few trees; but there's so many people. Cats and dogs running around, there's even a fence of lambs and horses that are to be sold.
Here I am thinking Emberton must be looking like a ghost town. Now that I've seen it, I think I was mistaken. The ambiance here feels really good, with the busy streets and noisy people.
The town seems a little different compared to Syrr. Emberton holds a simple, countryside life. While Syrr shows big houses and luxurious decorations, even their lamp posts seem expensive.
“We can start with the clothing boutique.” Gideon muttered
I nodded, excitedly.
Gideon led me to the line of several shops. There's the pet shop, hair salon, restaurant, pastry shop, clothing boutique, café and many more.
So this is the market. I looked over at the crowd of vampires walking around, some wearing simple clothings and rugged cloaks. Hm, I like it here.
“Let's buy you some warm clothes.” Gideon held my wrist and dragged me to a store.
It was a fancy clothing boutique that had glass walls so everyone could see the interior of the store. There's mannequins of dresses and suits. A rack of pointy heels and boxes of jewelries by the table.
Gideon was the one picking the stuff.
“This one looks pretty.” He showed me a cute, pink sweater.
I nodded in agreement. “You're paying right?” A grin formed on my lips when I saw him nod.
There's so much nice stuff in here. In the end, we bought more sweaters and scarves. It took us hours before we finally got to buy all the things I might need.
Now here we are sitting inside a café and having a cup of cappuccino. They also serve blood but due to the cold weather, Gideon has decided that a cup of hot cappuccino would be great.
Gideon and I talked for a while. He mentioned a lot of things, for a second I thought I'm talking to a teenage girl. He's so energetic as usual, he always speaks what's in his mind. He's also loud, a few heads turned to us every now and then.
“I'm actually three hundred and five years old. Quite young compared to Ambrose.” He said with a smile.
“You call that young?” I laughed, but it didn't hide the shocked expression. Gideon's chuckle echoed inside the café as he stared at me unbelievably.
“Ambrose is ancient.” Gideon stated, chuckling.
We clinked our cups and laughed together, not minding the stars we got. Once we had our fun conversation, we exited the shop.
It's already close to dawn, the sun is setting and the sky is getting dark. We started walking towards the busy street to get to Fergus.
“Fergus must be hungry.” I mumbled
Gideon smiled, “Good thing I brought him snacks.”
I smiled as we walked side to side. I held his arm when I felt a bit dizzy.
“You okay?” He asked
I nodded, “Yeah, I'm fine.” I gave him a reassuring smile.
Glancing down at my bracelet, I raised my brows. I'm surprised the bracelet is really working as the people don't seem to notice I'm different. Probably, these vampires just don't care what's going on around them.
As soon as we got back to the castle, Gideon helped me get off of Fergus' back.
“Thank you, Gid.” I gave him a tight hug. He really made my day. It's nice to get my mind off of things once in a while. I really had fun today, I feel so drained.
Gideon hugged me back, “You should go inside, you're cold. I'll put Fergus back on the stable.”
I nodded and walked to the door. Before I could even hold the knob, the door opened revealing a lady. That same blonde girl inside Izaac's room.
“Who is it?” A shadow appeared from behind the girl.
Izaac saw me, his playful smirk fell.
“You must be Feyre,” Her perfect, red lips stretched into a smile.
I wanted to give her a reaction, perhaps a small smile. However, I felt a sharp pang on my chest. All of a sudden, the spinning motion in my head worsened. Everything's just blurry; and slowly, I was again consumed by darkness.
