Chapter 20: Chapter 20
A sudden burst of wind came from behind. The trees swayed because of the blast of air, dead leaves flew a few feet off the ground. The forest only keeps getting darker as the sun finally disappears.
I checked his breathing and it was slow. He’s barely breathing! A sob escapes from my parted lips as I look at Izaac on my arm.
“What happened?” Asked the baritone, stern voice.
“Please help him!” I begged whoever was standing behind me.
Light footsteps came forward. My head rose and I saw shadows. Ambrose looked down at Izaac before gesturing to Gideon to pick him up. The latter did as Ambrose ordered and carried Izaac’s body.
I couldn’t heal him. My body isn’t listening, I must have overused my abilities. I feel horrible, what good is it to have the enemy dead when I can’t even save him?
Daniel offered a hand in front of my face. I looked up at him and accepted his hand. With all the strength I could muster, I got up even when my legs felt weak. It’s like I ran out of energy, I feel drained.
“Are we going home?” I asked softly, almost a whisper.
He must have observed my tired look and just nodded. As we walked out the woods, Ambrose spoke saying he’ll take care of the matter. I caught a glimpse of the stars before my body gave up. I was pulled into a deep slumber.
I woke up with my body aching so bad. Was I out for too long? My muscles feel sore and heavy. I opened my eyes and saw Gideon just entering the room. I looked around and realized that I’m in my room. The soft duvet embracing me felt good.
“Where’s Izaac?” I asked, my hand caressing my head. I felt dizzy the moment I rose from my sleep.
Gideon offered a glass of water, “He’s resting in his room. You should too.” His eyes softened at the sight of me.
I took the water and sipped from it.
“I must ask, how long was I asleep?”
The sunlight seeped into the window of my room, I looked outside and saw that the ground was now covered in white, thick snow. It’s snowing too!
“You were asleep for a while, I think a week?”
My eyes widened, my lips parted. I felt my breath hitch.
“A week?” I repeat in confusion.
Is that normal?
He chuckled, “Yep. You slept for an entire week, Feyre.”
“Huh, maybe that’s why my body felt stiff.” I should probably stretch or take a walk.
I blinked, “But I feel fine.” Aside from the constant dizziness.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You should eat.”
I nodded slowly, “See you downstairs.” He added before leaving the room.
The cold air from the window still stirs up in the room even when it’s tightly closed. I’m certain it’s freezing outside so I took a couple layers of clothes with me in the bathroom.
I took off my dress and cringed at myself. So, I didn’t take a bath for an entire week too? I must have smelled. Oh, god. Poor Gideon.
Heaving a sigh of relief, I slid down deeper in the tub filled with warm water and soap bubbles; my nose reaching the surface just enough to breathe. I played with the bubbles on my palm and smiled. This is refreshing.
A couple minutes later, I think. I’ve never checked the time until I’ve felt the water getting cold. I quickly rinsed and wrapped a clean towel around my body.
Wiping the fog in the mirror with my bare hand, I stared at my reflection with a stoic face. I look so pale and just awful. I can’t believe Gideon saw me like this. I shook my head and started changing into warm clothes.
I can’t wait to take a stroll outside. It’s my first time to see snow.
“Feyre, you’re up.” Sage smiled at me over the kitchen.
I waved at him with a small grin, “Are you making something?” I walked towards him and took a peek at the pan.
“Just breakfast.” He simply answered.
“It’s not cooked yet. You can wait at the counter.” He added
“Where’s Ambrose?” I asked
Sage looked at me, “Oh, he’s in his study.” Like always. He never opens that door unless he’s got something important to do out in town.
I shrugged before excusing myself to take a walk outside. I’m surprised that they haven’t mentioned the incident that happened in Syrr. The castle is strangely quiet, everyone’s doing their own things.
The door opened and I was covered by the cold wind. I rubbed my palms together and continued walking. The trees were buried with snow and ice spikes. The scenery was just beautiful.
Then my feet lead me to the side of the castle where I can see Izaac’s huge, stained window. Vines grew on the stone walls, there were also these little flowers.
I should visit him later, see if he’s healing faster. I stopped on my tracks when I saw shadows pacing inside his room. Then I saw a woman, her back facing me. She has this blonde, braided hair that falls gracefully on her shoulder.
But what startled me was when the woman started taking off her clothes. What is the actual fudge? I’m pretty sure that’s not Heather. Before I even witnessed the whole scene, I hurriedly turned my heels and walked away. I sprinted with my head down, trying not to feel anything. I must be an idiot!
I let out a shriek when my forehead bumped onto something hard. I slowly looked up and met a pair of vibrant, blue eyes staring back at me with a glint of joy.
“You shouldn’t roam around alone.” Gideon smiled and playfully tousled my hair making it so messy. I groaned and quickly fixed my hair.
“I’m sick of seeing the inside of this castle. I wanted to go out.” I bit my lip and looked down.
Gideon turned to me, “Wanna go see the town?” He stared at me, waiting for my reply.
“Are you serious?” I held back a smile.
He nodded, “We can go to the market and buy some stuff.” He was about to say more but I ended up hugging him on the neck tightly.
“Let me just go get my horse.” Gideon coughed as soon as I took my arms off him. I squealed in excitement and nodded at him.
