Chapter 136: Chapter 136

Zen landed back down with a slight huff, his gaze stern as he stared at the shocked wolves that slowly backed away for a second after witnessing the human in front of them decimate a few dozen of their comrades.

Out of the initial sixty-something beasts, the Reaver had taken down two dozen with just a single slash of his sword’s active skill.

Now, only about thirty-six beasts remained, and they were all furious as they snarled at him with glowing eyes and bristling fur.

"You can come over, let me send you all to where I sent them." He grinned widely as he held his hand out, signaling for the beasts to make their move — and they did.

They exploded from where they stood with incredible speed, the ground trembling under their paws as a cacophony of bangs filled the air. Within the blink of an eye, they were upon Zen.

Paws, fangs, and violent bashes rained toward him. Seeing this, he was forced to move faster, ducking low to avoid a swing aimed at his head, then pushing off the ground to leap into the air, narrowly avoiding another strike.

While airborne, he spun sharply and landed a roundhouse kick that sent one of the wolves flying into the distance, its body crashing through the trees with a loud thud.

Landing a meter away from the huddled beasts, another one zipped toward him faster than he could almost react, its mouth open wide as it lunged for his face.

But steeling himself, Zen pivoted sharply and brought his sword down on the beast, slicing it clean in half and sending blood spraying through the air.

Before he could regain his composure, a paw slammed into his ribs with so much force that he was lifted off his feet and hurled backward into a tree. The impact shook the trunk violently, and Zen slid down on his back with a grunt.

In the blink of an eye, another beast leaped toward him, landing squarely on his body with its jaws wide open, ready to sink its fangs into his flesh. Zen immediately lifted his sword just in time, the blade blocking the beast’s fangs as they clamped down hard.

"Shit, shit, shit," he muttered under his breath, straining against the wolf’s immense strength. The creature writhed on top of him, thrashing and snarling as it tried to overpower him, but Zen kept a firm grip on his sword, keeping it between them.

"Fuck off!" Zen roared as he swung his arm forward with every ounce of strength he had left, punching the beast hard in the snout and sending it flying off his body.

Before he could even breathe, two more beasts zipped toward him from opposite sides, cornering him with no escape. In unison, they lunged forward at full speed.

In a flash, Zen was gone. The two beasts crashed into each other with thunderous force, leaving them dazed. The Reaver appeared behind them, his sword glowing faintly, and with a single fluid motion, he swung his blade, decimating them where they stood.

More beasts charged his way, and Zen immediately spun around, smashing his palm into the ground. A large slab of earth burst upward, and he kicked it forward with great strength, slamming it into two of the wolves and sending them sprawling.

’Damn! This is getting exhausting,’ he thought as he quickly looked up to see another pack charging straight for him. Actually, multiple packs.

’I’ve seen this in a few animes... let’s give it a try.’ Zen thought, smirking slightly even through his exhaustion. The beasts were now incredibly close, their claws sparking as they charged. Glancing back, he spotted a huge tree behind him. Without hesitation, he dashed backward, then leaped and slammed both feet into the tree trunk.

The bark cracked beneath the force as he dug his toes in, his body tensing for a split second. And right on cue, the beasts reached him, leaping toward his last known spot.

Then, in a burst of strength, Zen kicked off the tree with explosive force, launching himself into the air.

In an instant, he was above them — his sword gleaming, his eyes locked on the chaos below.

In one fell swoop and with an increasing burst of speed, Zen moved like a blur — faster than the beasts even had the chance to react — as his blade tore through their necks. One after another, their heads dropped to the ground with dull, heavy thuds, leaving only about twenty-something beasts still standing.

’Because of these beasts’ Veil, I’m forced to use most of my system skills, putting them on cooldown. I wonder how I’ll fare against the boss with everything on cooldown. And why the hell hasn’t it even moved yet?’ Zen thought as the remaining beasts snarled and charged at him with full speed.

They looked like dark streaks of lightning tearing through the forest floor as they closed in, their claws crackling and digging into the dirt. Within a flash, they reached Zen’s position. Like rabid dogs, they crouched low and then launched themselves off the ground with explosive force, the air bursting with loud bangs as they came at him from all sides.

The young Reaver tightened his grip, ready to block an incoming strike from one and dodge another, but before he could fully react, a third beast slammed into his leg with brutal force. A fourth immediately clamped its jaws around his other leg, its fangs tearing through flesh as blood sprayed out in a violent burst.

"Ack! Fuck!" Zen cursed through gritted teeth as pain flared through his body. His balance faltered, and before he could steady himself, the beast lunging from the front smashed its full weight into his face, sending him tumbling backward hard into the dirt.

"Curse you all!" Zen roared as he forced himself up, his eyes blazing with fury. He barely had time to breathe before the wolves lunged at him again, snarling and foaming, their claws slicing through the air with terrifying precision.

"Suck on each other’s balls!" Zen spat as he slammed his hands into the ground.

In one fluid motion, he crouched low, grabbed two beasts by their limbs, and hurled them forward with monstrous strength. Their bodies shot through the air almost silently, moving like cannonballs. The pack tried to pivot away — but before they could react, the hurled wolves regained their full mass midair, crashing into their comrades with bone-crushing force.

The impact was explosive.

A dozen beasts were smashed into the surrounding trees, the shockwave shaking the forest. Several trees bent from the sheer impact, bark splintering as the wolves yelped in pain.

For a brief second, the few remaining wolves froze, distracted as they turned to witness their fallen kin sprawled and broken across the ground. That single heartbeat of hesitation was all Zen needed.

He shot forward, his body vanishing in a blur. In that instant, his sword flashed faster than sight — and when he stopped moving, a sharp silence followed.

Then, one by one, the wolves’ heads dropped from their shoulders, hitting the dirt with soft, echoing thuds.

"Now it’s your turn," Zen muttered, his voice low and cold as he pointed his blood-drenched sword toward the Alpha. His chest heaved slightly, sweat trickling down his temple, but his eyes burned with determination.

Before he could even blink, the Alpha Direwolf moved. It vanished from sight, darting forward like lightning and appearing directly in front of him within the twinkle of an eye. Its speed was so intense that the ground cracked where it had stood.

The massive beast opened its maw wide, and from deep within its throat, a blinding white-blue light began to build, swirling with raw, violent energy. The glow illuminated Zen’s face, and the Reaver’s pupils shrank to pinpoints as realization struck.
