Chapter 50.

‘’Good morning my daughter?’’

‘’Good morning mum. You slept well?’’

‘’Yes, I did. I hope you had a nice rest.’’

‘’I did, mum. Thank you.’’

She moves closer to say something to my ear,‘’ And I hope Luke isn’t stressing you at all, I will slaughter him alive if he dares to do so.’’

‘’He is really good to me. No doubt he has been taught well. Raised by the best family and given the best training in life.’’ She nods at me.

‘’That’s how I want him to be to everyone. He has to be a good boy.’’

‘’Sure, he is.’’ After telling her all that transpired between Harry and me yesterday, she is really happy about it but she asks me not to raise my hopes high. She says that anything can happen between now to the time I will be going to see Harry.

We are seated in the marquee and she is about to tell me what took place between Mr. Williams and her.

‘’One day,’’ she starts quietly. ‘’I went to the supermarket but alone that had never happened before then. My friend who was also my roommate insisted that she was unwell so, she didn’t want to accompany me. I went all by myself and I never stayed. When I came back,’’ she pauses a bit before speaking again. ‘’Williams was lying in my friend’s bed. Necked ‘’ she says sadly.

‘’Your friend just let you to her room?’’

‘’She didn’t, I had to insist for her to do it. I felt like she was hiding something. When I knocked, I wanted to know how she was doing. I was literally checking on her as a friend. She took like five minutes, something that had never happened. I walked into the room and Williams was there lying necked. I went and shook him but he was unconscious. I thought he was pretending I was so angry at them but after checking his pulse, again and again, I realized that it wasn’t a joke. I called an ambulance and later on the hospital informed me that he had been given something to make him high but it backfired and he fainted. My so-called friend removed his clothes and was or rather took photos to blackmail him later. Thank God I found out before it was too late so, it didn’t work for him from that day henceforth, I decided I will not trust anyone and I asked him to be calling to confirm if I am around before showing up.’’

‘’What an evil friend,’’ I comment calmly.

‘’You can say that again.’’ She says with a smile. ‘’later on, I sent my friend away and decided I wasn’t going to house a jezebel under my roof. I took her memory and lied that I wasn’t going to send her away but I still did. I felt really guilty about sending her away but Williams advised me to keep my cool because next, she was going to hurt me badly. Williams completed his education and graduated before me and we parted ways. He went to a different town but made sure that we kept communication on. Jezebel tried all she could to end the relationship but she never succeeded.’’

‘’I hate it when people you sort of trust turn out to be evil. I prefer one being open but that can only happen in space. Not on this planet earth.’’ She smiles at that. ‘’What’s funny?’’

‘’I like your reasoning. This planet earth will show us wonders by the time we all depart from it. Anyway, Williams kept in touch and I was always glad when he showed up. He on different occasions showed up unannounced and told me he got an anonymous call saying that I was in my room with several men.’’ I gasp my palm going over my lips automatically.

‘’Who the hell would have been doing that?’’

‘’The witch of course. Do you know what I felt when I saw her yesterday?’’ I shake my head. ‘’I wanted to strangle her to death and believe you me, what that woman did to me deserves a death sentence! I will make sure she rots in jail for that. I swear.’’ My blood boils with anger when she says that.

‘’What did she do?’’

‘’Stick around sweetheart so that I am able to tell you this story to the end.’’

‘’Why are you telling me all this?’’

‘’Because the person who posed as my friend is Jenna, Mrs. Williams. The same person who could be your mother in law in a few months or years or weeks. You will have to be very strong to make it to live with this woman, she isn’t your normal woman but a certified witch.’’ It isn’t funny but I smile at her last sentence. ‘’I don’t know why but I don’t want you to suffer, I am feeling a so attached to you and I know for sure that that woman especially because she doesn’t approve of your relationship with her son may make you suffer while at it.’’

I tense when she says that. That’s frightening and I know she isn’t lying. ‘’Should I call off this whole thing?’’

‘’No chance. You gotta try your luck, maybe the son will decide to do the unthinkable. Maybe he will take you out of town and have a smooth life with you.’’ I shake my head. I already feel like I don’t wanna leave because I have her. ‘’ don’t give me that look I may not allow you to leave because I will terribly miss you. But for your happiness, anything.’’

‘’Thank you,’’ I mumble audibly.

‘’Anytime. Anyway, Williams, however, understood me all the time and he with all honesty refused to be manipulated. He never bought her lies until she got frustrated and was caught a few times trying to commit suicide because of Williams. She was literally infatuated, enamoured, besotted and lovesick with him. I hated her behaviours with passion.’’

‘’Life went on, it was never smooth until I graduated. I then went home and was glad when she wasn’t in the picture anymore, that’s either because she had given up or had realized that no one was gonna love her, especially not Williams.’’

‘’Lovely. Where did she appear from again?’’

‘’Years later, Williams went to see my father who was so pleased. He asked for my hand in marriage and I didn’t hesitate to accept. His parents really did love me and I loved them right back. His mum was an angel and his dad God sent. His family and mine understood each other, they made a good rapport and affinity between them. Business was good and they referred and recommended clients until they were both stable and standing on good feet financially.’’

‘’I wanna be there when I grow up.’’

A smile curves her lips. ‘’You will get there keep your focus on. Later on, Williams proposed and I never hesitated one bit to say yes. I was very proud of my man and I wanted to show him off all over. He was equally proud and his friends envied us. At some point, one of them even tried being evil with me, he tried hitting on me but I loved Williams so much little did I know that he would be the one coming to my rescue later on and saving my ass when things went haywire.’’

‘’Don’t tell me he is the …’’

‘’Yes, he is and it’s good because he knows the story.’’

‘’Wow! You are one of the strongest women I know.’’

‘’I feel flattered. Later After about three months or so, I was pregnant with Williams’ baby. I was so happy about it. I knew him and I will start a family and make great things out of it. My pregnancy turned out to be a risky one after someone tried assassinating me on two different occasions. I was fragile but I soldiered on. I wanted to be a hero and I wanted to make sure that I come out successful to disgrace the devil.’’

‘’And you did,’’ I state proudly.

‘’Partially,’’ she responds sadly. ‘’Nine months later, the baby was mature and was ready to be born. I went to the hospital and booked a doctor who was to deliver me. My gynecologist. That guy never showed up on that material day. Rumours which were later confirmed to true at the moment had it that he was found dead by the roadside near his home. He wasn’t a drunkard but he was found with different types of bottles of alcohol. Lying carelessly beside him.’’

‘’The doctor who was supposed to deliver me was creepy, I didn’t like me the very first time I saw him and he did the worst to me. He made sure that I was injected with anaesthesia, I lost consciousness and I never had the chance to look at my baby not even once. After he did the caesarian session the baby disappeared.’’

‘’Ooh my God! People are wicked. What were you told happened?’’

‘’Have you met them?’’ I shake my head in pure confusion. That’s funny. ‘’I woke up in a strange man’s house. He had said I was taken to the morgue that I was dead but I moved at night. He checked around and since he had had stories, he knew there was danger. He took me away and gave me shelter. He was literally a good man.’’

‘’I bet.’’

‘’When I asked him about my baby, he said he had no idea because I wasn’t delivered in the hospital near his workplace. One of my cousins also disappeared and we are yet to locate her. I was told that I had given birth to a beautiful baby girl, everyone who was attending to me at that point was arrested and is rotting in jail. They were foolish enough to accept money without any written agreement or recodings so the wicked Jenna walks around like one of the innocent persons. I hope one day, I will be able to hug my baby in my arms, hold her tight and tell her that I love her. That I never wanna separate from her. I have lived with distress torment, despair and woe all this while, just because I fell in love with the wrong person.’’

‘’Did you know that she exists before yesterday?’’

She nod, ‘’I did and my detective is doing a good job. She will be rotting in jail in a matter of a few days or weeks. She informed me of the wedding and I will be delivering a nice gift to her. I wish her all the best in opening the gift pack.’’

‘’Your detective is a woman?’’

‘’Yes, what a man can do, a woman can do ten times better.’’ She smiles and trust me I knew such jobs are meant for men, not women.

‘’Wow, I want to meet her.’’

‘’And you will.’’ She assures me.

‘’What happened to the man that saved your life?’’

‘’I am glad I never lost my memory. That guy helped contact my parents a few days later and they came for me. I was put under tight surveillance and security. My parents made sure that that I was safe. They offered that guy lots of money but he declined. When dad asked him to mention what he wanted, he asked for a job and he is one of the managers in dad’s company today. Such a great man.’’

‘’Indeed.’’

‘’Anyway, get ready girl, now you know how I lost my baby. They confirmed to me that she never died. She was conveyed that evil woman who gave her to some girl whom she paid to disappear with the baby and I am working hard, day and night to find her.’’

‘’And you will,’’ I say standing up and she lands on me with a tight hug.

‘’I want to hug her like this. I will ask her to forgive me. I am hopeful that I will find her.’’

‘’All the best.’’

‘’Thank you. Now, get ready because I Luke just texted saying he will drive you.’’

‘’Isn’t Harrison coming for me?’’

‘’Well, it is almost twelve noon and if he is still not here, then you need to go. I don’t expect you to sit here and wait, you might wait forever.’’

I am ready in a few minutes and they say I look stunning. I am in a long golden dress and red flat sandals. Luke looks elegant in his casual smart wear and I swear I like his dress code.

He opens the car door for me, in one of his very fancy cars. Mum waves goodbye and he pulls out smoothly. I am wondering what’s gonna happen when we get there, why Harrison hasn’t shown up and what could have possibly happened.

‘’You look cute,’’ he comments sweetly.

‘’And you look on point,’’ I tell him.

‘’What God has put together, let no man put asunder.’’

Those are the last words I hear when the gateman opens the gate for us and I lose my stability then I fall on Luke’s shoulder.

He is officially married to her.

May God protect their union.
