Chapter 82: Chapter 82
''My love for you is endless like an eternal light that keeps on glowing and shining, and is sweet as the sweetest wine you could ever taste, as my love for you knows no time.'' - quotesgram.com
Azura's POV
Adrian and I visited Nana but she didn't at all agree to shift. "I'm quite capable of looking after everything. Who said I'm old?" asked Nana and I looked at Adrian helplessly. I knew how stubborn she could be.
"Who said you're old, nana? It's just that when you fall sick, we would be worried sick thinking about the three of you. This place is so far away, that Azura can't come to see you whenever she wants to. It hampers her studies as all she does is worry about the three of you. Even the children can't see their older sibling for days,' coaxed Adrian while I looked at Nana's thoughtful face with hope.
"Believe me, nana, this is the best option for everyone. The apartment has been lying around and dad would have sold it off eventually. It's good that you will be staying there from now on. It's in the same building as ours and you will get to see your Azura every day."
Nana smiled at last and we sighed with relief as we could finally convince nana to shift into our condominium.
Dad gave us the keys to the apartment and Adrian had it ready for my family to immediately shift in. Betty had already started working for us. She was good and trustworthy and I didn't need to go into the kitchen since she joined. Adrian's orders since he wanted me to study hard and do well in the retest and that was what I did, wanting to make him proud of me.
It took one week for nana and the twins to shift in and settle down. I went with dad and got the twins admitted to a nearby school.
There was a mega event at our hotel Parkland Manor, a charity ball that mom wanted me to help her organize. So after my duty shift, we coordinated with the hotel's event management team and started preparing for the ball. Mom loved my suggestions and I was glad that I could please her.
Cassandra was pregnant and when she was too unwell, mom insisted that we go and see her. When we saw the beautiful ring on her finger, we exchanged knowing looks. Cassie told us how Julian proposed and that they would soon announce their wedding to the whole family. She was throwing up a lot and hadn't eaten anything, so I got up to go downstairs to help Nora, their housekeeper make some honey, and ginger chicken soup for her.
As I went near the top of the stairs, I saw Max, Cassandra's two-year-old son running down the stairs in a hurry, holding onto his monster truck. Before I could warn him and ask him to slow down, his left foot slipped and he started to fall.
I panicked and flew down the stairs as fast as my legs would carry me and dived in, down the last two steps to catch Max so that his body wouldn't touch the ground and get hurt.
Max screamed in panic, but I fell to my side and caught him in my body, slowly coming to a sitting position. My back was hurting and I couldn't move my right leg. I knew I sprained it badly but I could save Max at least. I didn't let any part of his body hit the ground, I caught him before that.
He cried himself hoarse as Cassie and mom came hurrying to see what happened. Cassie asked me and I told her but before she could take Max, he lost consciousness out of trauma.
Mom called 911 for help, summoning the paramedics to take us to the hospital. She informed Julian and Adrian too while Nora loosened Max's clothes and placed his feet up on the sofa.
Julian came in just as the ambulance arrived and we were taken to the hospital. Cassie took Max to the pediatrician while Adrian came and wheeled me to the orthopedic surgeon while Julian took care of the hospital formalities.
By the time my ankle was put on a casting and pain medications were administered to me, I was too weak to even go home. My body was throbbing with pain and bruised from the fall and I was feeling feverish. Adrian brought me to see Max and I noted that he had gained consciousness and was put on an IV drip. He looked so helpless that my heart went out to the little boy.
Cassie thanked me profusely and asked after me. Mom kissed my forehead and asked Adrian to take me home. I left after ensuring that Max was alright.
We reached home by afternoon and Adrian helped me to bed. Nana and the twins came to see me. Nana fed me some chicken broth and Adrian gave me my medicine and I immediately dozed off to a peaceful slumber.
I woke up with a headache the next morning but smiled when Adrian brought in my breakfast which Betty had prepared, soft pancakes and hot milk. He sat down beside me but I could sense that he was unhappy.
"Why can't you take care of yourself Azura?" He said sulking.
"I do take care of myself," I told him.
"What would I do if something untoward happened to you? The way you dived in, you could have banged your head and died," he said as I realized how tired and worried he looked.
"I had to save Max," I told him.
"I know, everyone is indebted to you for it, but please think with your head before risking your life," he scolded me but I was touched by his words. He must care for me too much. I touched his cheek and hugged him to me tightly. " I promise to look after myself Adrian," I said and he hugged me back.
"I'll die without you," he whispered but I heard him distinctly.
I kissed him gently and he kissed me back.
It was then that I realized how deeply I had fallen in love with this guy. He had stopped being only my boyfriend on whom I had a crush. He had become my world, my one and only true love with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my life. I wanted to get married to him and have his children. Yes, I was truly and hopelessly in love with Adrian Henderson. Did he love me back? Yes, I knew he did. I could feel it every time he looked at me, every time he kissed me, every time he made love to me, in everything that he did for me.
You don't need to shout out your love for each other always. If you truly love one another, you can feel that it's there between the two of you. A single glance from the one who loves you truly is enough to convey the feelings of the heart. His one sentence
I'll die without you
Was enough to make me realize how much he cherishes me.
