Chapter 137: Chapter 137

Tristan's POV

We rang the doorbell bell and a middle-aged woman opened the door and ushered us in. Leo came forward along with his wife.

Leo hugged her, "Amy, so good to see you. I can't believe that you're really here," he said as he kissed her temple. She hugged his wife, Gloriana, too.

Leo clapped my back and pulled me into a bro hug, "Hey, how are you, man?" He asked.

I returned the hug and nodded, "I'm good," I said with a smile.

Gloriana ushered us to the reception room and suddenly shouts and squeals echoed through as Leo's twins came rushing towards us. Seeing Amelia and me, they stopped in their tracks and stared at us. "Hey, come here, to aunty Amy," Amelia called them as she knelt down. They came shyly to her, studying us from the corner of their eyes. It seemed as if they hadn't met Amelia when she visited for her mom's funeral. They had been sent to Gloriana's parents' house.

"Do you know who I am?" She asked the twin boy and girl who looked so much like Leo. They were 5 years old, I knew. I saw them when I visited them three years back to meet Amelia's mom.

"No," they chorused at the same time.

"Just like you two are siblings, your dad is my brother, and I'm his sister," Amelia explained as their eyes widened in understanding.

Suddenly, footsteps from upstairs sounded, and Caleb and Veronica descended, looking at us. Caleb clenched his teeth upon seeing me. I didn't react but kept my attention fixed on the children.

"Then will you live with us from now on?" The little boy asked, "I'm Jaxon, and this is Alexa, aunt Amy. Stay with us," he said as Amelia kept her hand on his shoulder as I helped her get up.

"No, sweetheart, I can't live here," she said gently.

"Jax silly, her boyfriend will cry if she stays here," said Alexa, eyeing me as I grinned at them while Amelia turned red with embarrassment.

"I'm not her boyfriend, honey. I'm her fiancé," I explained proudly.

"What's a fiacey?" asked Alexa scrunching up her nose.

"See this?" I said as I picked up her hand and showed them her ring. "This is her engagement ring. We are marrying each other in two weeks' time," I informed them as they squealed in delight.

"Congrats man, finally my little sister is getting married. I'm very happy for both of you." Leo said as he hugged both of us together.

Gloriana and Veronica kissed Amelia's cheeks and congratulated her. They shook hands with me too. Caleb turned and started to walk out.

"Cal, I need to talk to you," I said as I slowly approached him. I had decided to clear all misunderstandings between us.

Caleb stopped in his tracks and stood near the door like a statue, his muscles tense with underlying emotions. I knew that he hadn't expected me to take the initiative and call out to him. But I wanted to for Amelia's sake. As I approached him, he opened the door and walked out. I was at my wit's end by now. I knew that he was stubborn but wouldn't he at least listen to me? I went out to the front porch and saw that he sat down at one of the wooden stools there, waiting for me, staring ahead of him at nothing in particular. I sat down beside him, eager to talk to him now that he showed his willingness to do so.

"I love Amelia too much. I can't live without her anymore. I'm marrying her, bro," I said as I looked at him. He didn't once look at me, but a muscle twitched in his jaws as he took in what I told him. His eyes filled up with hurt as if I had betrayed him somehow. I wanted to clear the misunderstandings more than ever. I wanted to erase the traces of misunderstanding that shrouded his mind.

"I really don't know why we never spoke to each other after Daphne and Cassidy broke up with you. Believe me, they lied to you about me. I never looked their way, let alone sleep with them. I was too much in love with Amelia. We both should have confronted them together and things would have cleared up. But yes I'm happy that they left you alone. You deserve someone much better," I confessed as he looked at the paved pathways with a gloomy expression, not saying a word. I had no idea what was going on in his mind but I wasn't giving up. I would give it all and try harder till he really saw how absurd and illogical he was being.

I thought for a minute about what to say. He still hadn't said a word, so I still continued. "I would have married her long ago, had I not been separated from her for 8 years. Believe me, bro, I was devastated and left home to end my life when Amelia went away. I would have been dead in the Mediterranean ocean if my dad hadn't rescued me and introduced me to his PI, who updated me about Amelia for 7 years till she returned back to me. My love for Amelia is true and what more proof do you want than the fact that I've pursued her relentlessly fighting against all odds? I'm sure Leo might have told you that your mom had called me. She had asked me to pursue Amelia and marry her," I told him. "Now I've kept her promise. I wanted her to make peace with all of you since you're the only family she has. Brandon and Leo have already accepted us, now it's up to you, Cal. I hope you won't bear a grudge against me," I added. Caleb looked up at me with wide eyes and then looked away while I sighed knowing how stubborn he was.
