Chapter 130: Chapter 130
Amelia's POV
They rang the doorbell at the foot of the stairs which led up to my room at the backside of the shop. After opening, I led them into my office as my unit was too small for three people. They brought dinner with them. I took the packets into the pantry and served them on three plates.
They looked around my office. As we ate in silence Brandon asked, "You've got a beautiful setup. My wife was talking about it last night. You had designed her friend's entire bridal collection. I'm proud of you, Amy, for what you've achieved at such a young age, all on your own," said Brandon. I was surprised to hear him praise me. I blinked at him with disbelief. "Your office is indeed awesome, I'm impressed," he said, looking around. I smiled at him, this time touched by what he said.
"Thank you, Bran," I said, calming down a little.
"All that's fine but why are you sleeping in your office, Amy?" Asked Caleb impatiently. It was obvious that he didn't approve of Brandon's encouraging words for me.
"None of your business, Cal, just come to the point, why are you here," I said, irritated already. I wasn't answerable to anyone and specifically not to Caleb. His attitude was terrible and I couldn't tolerate him at all.
"Of course, it's our business. Are you short on funds?" asked Caleb angrily.
"No, even if I were, I'll figure it out myself," I said as I finished my food, "Thanks for the dinner," I said formally.
"We're just looking out for you, Amy. We're not your enemies," Brandon said finishing his food as I collected the dirty plates, he carried the leftovers and we headed towards the pantry. Caleb followed us with a pissed-off look on his face since he was unable to convince me to do his bidding.
I kept quiet, letting them speak their mind before reacting. I was too tired to fight them. I knew they were just concerned about me, but I had a life and a mind of my own. I wasn't a puppet. I had feelings too. Feelings for Tristan which I had suppressed for the last 8 years. If they really loved me, they should have been happy that I was with Tristan. If they were so concerned then they wouldn't think of forcing their friend on me. I waited for Brandon to say something to me. My trust in Caleb was gone forever!
"We don't want you facing any hardships, we want you to be happily settled, married to a good man who would take care of you. We want you to live comfortably, not in your office. Please don't misunderstand me, Amy," said Brandon, giving her a pleading look as he placed the leftovers in the fridge. His words had me thinking. He hadn't once forced Scott upon me. Did he know about my feelings for Tristan? Did Caleb tell him that I was dating Tristan? I wondered how he would react to the news.
"That's where Scott comes in. He's a very good guy and most importantly, he has fallen for you, Amy. He will keep you happy," Caleb added gently as if talking to a child. I rolled my eyes at his words.
"What about Tristan? Isn't he a good man? We've loved each other for the last 8 years. Despite all your efforts, I'm again reunited with him. I'm dating him and I'm happy. Why do you keep dumping me upon Scott? I don't know him, let alone love him. Tristan makes me happy," I yelled, unable to control myself anymore. "If my happiness means so much to me, why can't you accept that being with Tristan makes me happy? Why are you forcing your friend upon me?" I asked angrily.
"If you're so happy, why are you living here?" Caleb answered angrily.
"I'm not answerable to you, Caleb," I retorted as I cleaned my desk.
"Accept it, he's treating you like shit," he said, gritting his teeth.
"Shut up Caleb. You don't know anything. I was living in his penthouse with him, but he had to leave for Paris due to an emergency. I couldn't face our empty apartment without missing him, so I'm staying here till he returns. He doesn't know I'm here. If he knew his whole family would have come to fetch me," I told him the truth, at least he would get off my back.
"I know how you're feeling. I was in the same situation once upon a time," Brandon said, nodding his head.
"You do?" I was surprised that he understood my situation without any argument. Maybe Brandon wasn't as bad as I thought him to be.
"Yes, I just want you to be happy, Amy. It doesn't matter who you marry," he said with a warm smile on his face. It gave me hope that after all there was someone who wasn't forcing me to do things I didn't want to do. Caleb scoffed furiously. It was obvious that he didn't like what was going on. He didn't expect Brandon to support me.
"Oh, thank you, Bran. Your understanding means a lot to me," I said, hugging him as Caleb glared at us.
"Take care of yourself, Amy. Live your life but If he hurts you I will be the first one to beat him up. Remember, whatever happens, you can always call me or come to my house. Okay?" Brandon said as I released him. I nodded at him. Of course, I would. I was glad that I was able to make peace with one of my brothers.
"Yes, thank you, Bran, " I said happily.
