Chapter 41: Chapter 41
Daimen
I made my way through the house and paused outside her room. All was quiet and something gripped my heart. I opened the door and peeked inside. I sighed as I saw her laying in bed under her covers. Her breathing was steady and she looked peaceful as she slept. I smiled softly and was about to leave when I stopped because she whimpered.
I honestly didn't care much that she had blew me off. I mean I should've saw it coming really; I was a total ass to her so of course she'd try to distance herself from me. But I couldn't help I was hurting. I loved her. I've loved her for so long...
Seeing her laying there made me want to kill myself for how I treated her. I'd tried before to end my life but it was obviously a failed attempt. Note: if you're trying to take yourself out with pills make sure you take enough to get the job done. I'd just ended up making myself super sick to the point I couldn't move without vomiting from nausea. But that was years ago.
She deserved the world and I was going to be better to her. She was my life and she needed to realize that. I wanted to show all my love to her. But she most likely wouldn't accept it...
I looked back over to her and saw a slight frown on her face. I tilted my head slightly as her breathing picked up and she breathed, "Mommy, I want Mommy." Her voice sounded like a child's and my heart twisted as protectiveness rushed through me. She was having a nightmare.
I walked over to her bed and looked down at her. She looked so helpless. Her hair was slightly damp from a shower I suppose and her eyes were tightly shut. I groaned and slid into bed beside her. My arms wrapped around her and I pulled her against me. She gasped and her hands clung onto my shirt. She let out a sigh as her head lay on my chest and I let out a shaky breath.
"Mommy." She breathed and I bit back a laugh. Aww she was sleep talking. It was actually adorable.
"No it's Daimen." I said softly and she sighed snuggling closer.
"Mom Daimen's crazy, but I have a," she yawned softly, "secret." I sighed at the fact I was playing the role of her mother, yet I was intrigued.
"What secret?" I asked and she snuggled closer and yawned again.
"I like 'd.'" She said and I couldn't help but laugh a little. Who would have known she was such a dirty-minded girl? She rested her head better on my chest.
"'S. P.'" She sighed and my chuckle caught in my throat.
"What?" Was all I could ask.
"'D. S. P.'... Daimen Prince... I like hmmm." She breathed and my body tensed. She liked me?
No shit, why else would she hang out with you... Let alone have sex... My mind said.
She liked me. A smile broke out on my face and I looked at the girl beside me.
My girl.
Does that mean she may love me?
She finally stopped her incoherent mumbling and was now in a deep, quiet sleep. I let out a chocking noise and combed my fingers through her soft, still damp, hair. She sighed and I pulled the covers up around us. Sudden tiredness washed over me. I threw an arm over her and laid my head on one of her pillows.
A buzzing of a phone caught my attention and I looked around before grabbing River's off of her dresser. I looked at the assembly of numbers then answered it.
"Hello?" I whispered softly careful not to wake her.
"River?" A man's voice said and I frowned. I sat up a bit. Who was this?
"This is her... boyfriend; she's asleep next to me, I'll pass on the message if that's the case." I said and the man cleared his throat.
"Okay well this is Doctor Harley at Lanesville Hospital, April Carter had an accident and we took her into the ER... her phone is locked and this was the only number we could call?" The doctor said.
"Oh... Is she okay?" I asked feeling dread seep into me. The doctor paused and I sighed at the realization. River suddenly moved against me and my heart skipped.
"She's in critical condition at the moment but we're pretty sure she'll be stabilized." Doctor Harley said and I let out a breath. At least she wasn't dead.
"Are you positive it's her? This has to be some mistake." I said lowering my voice even more and looked over to the sleeping girl beside me. I gulped.
"Yes, we have her ID and blood work; it's her." I groaned and ran a hand through my hair.
"She's still alive?" I asked for conformation.
"Yes." Doctor Harley said.
"Keep her that way. We'll be there once River wakes up." I said and he told me his goodbyes before I hung up. I looked at her and felt tears prick my eyes but I blinked them away. I couldn't help feeling like it was my fault.
In a way it probably was. The note had said something about her friends-dammit. Why do I attract such evil?
I sighed and ran a hand through my hair before I settled back down beside her.
I reached over and pulled River closer to me enjoying her warmth and dreading when I'd have to tell her about her friend.
"Goodnight Riv." I sighed as my eyes closed and I fell into sleep.
"... I don't know what to do. I'm scared..." I woke up to soft whispers and I felt coldness by my side. I cautiously opened my eyes and saw the bed bare beside me.
"It's all so confusing. I can't think straight. Then I wake up and Daimen's in my bed. I can't believe this. He's been so... I shouldn't... I-I should hate him. I really should, but I don't. I fucking-oh sh-crap. I'm sorry I didn't mean to curse." She paused for a bit. My heart hurt as she spoke. Though I couldn't help a smile as she freaked out about cursing in prayer.
"I just don't know what to do anymore." I felt guilt wash over me. I rolled over and saw her staring out the window up at the sky. I sat up but she didn't notice me.
"Riv we have to go." I said softly and she turned and looked at me in shock.
"What?" She asked sounding so confused and the pain hurt more and more.
"We have to go to the hospital now. I was waiting for you to wake up." I said trying to get around why exactly we were going.
"Why?" She questioned and I had to look away. I couldn't see the look on her face when I told her. I wouldn't be able to bare that broken face.
"April's in the hospital." I got it out and was met with silence.
"What?" Her voice cracked and so did my heart. I risked a glance at her and saw her eyes were wide with shock.
"There was an accident, I'll take you, but we have to go. She's in critical condition." I said and suddenly she looked angry.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? She could be dead already! What-how long have you known?" She yelled and I checked my phone. It was 3AM. I put my phone up.
"A few hours." I sighed and she marched over and stood in my face. Her eyes studied mine before she slapped me hard in the face. I ignored the stinging as she hit on my chest and glared at me.
"You knew for hours and didn't tell me?! If she's dead I swear I'll never forgive you!" She slapped me again. I could've moved, but I didn't.
The world fuzzed a bit around me and I blinked and hissed as she slapped me for the third time. Shit, was it just me or did girls get superhuman strength when they get angry? Well I guess I deserved it. No, I know I deserved it.
"If you're done can we go now?" I said, probably not the best choice of words because she frowned before punching me in the jaw. I rotated my jaw a bit to take away some of the pain and she turned around and started toward the door.
"Come on." She hissed and I followed.
"Don't you need to at least put a bra on under that?" I asked suddenly aware of her nipples poking against the thin fabric. She looked down and frowned.
"Fine." She said quickly and took off her shirt. My mouth dropped open as I watched her. She obviously didn't care about anything right now or else she wouldn't have taken off her goddam shirt in front of me. Many thoughts rushed through my head and I scolded myself.
I'm taking her to see her friend, I reminded my horny body. She put on a bra and slipped the shirt back on. I swallowed and cleared my throat.
We got in my car and headed toward the hospital. I knew the route by heart... It was the one I'd taken my mother to on multiple occasions.
As soon as we parked River hopped out of the car and was rushing towards the hospital almost getting mowed down by a truck as she ran but even that didn't stop her. I'm not sure if she even noticed she almost got hit. Muttering curses, I followed her into the building and saw her at the receptionist. She was talking and the woman was typing frantically. I hurried over.
"To the left. Room 302C." She said and River sprinted off once again. I swore under my breath and went after her.
"Riv wait." I called but it was too late. By the time I made it to the hallway she had disappeared. I sighed and started my search for the room.
It wasn't long before I found it and I hesitated outside of the door. I could hear sobbing inside and I swallowed my nerves before opening the door and going in. My heart felt like someone stomped on it as I saw the bruised and battered April laying on the bed with tubes connected to her. I thought of my mother. I shook my head and looked at the girl crying by the bedside and I started toward her.
"River. River it's okay." I said reassuringly and she looked up at me with red, teary eyes and a blotchy face. She was still beautiful even like this.
"She's in a coma. It's not okay." She cried and I crouched beside her. My hands rubbed her shoulders as she sobbed.
"I'm pretty sure she's just asleep baby. I'm so sorry about everything." I said slowly standing and helping her up as well.
She sniffled and turned to me. Her arms flung around my neck and pulled me closer. I automatically snaked my arms around her waist and hugged her against me. Her body shook against mine as she cried. Her sobs broke my heart.
"How did this happen?" She cried clutching my shirt in her shaky hands. I hugged her tighter and kissed her head.
"She crashed her car." I sighed and River's sobs turned hysterical. I groaned and held her to me. Her legs gave in and I slowly lowered her to the ground and sat down. I held her in my lap as she sobbed and combed my fingers through her hair as she screamed and cried.
"Please River, I can't stand you crying like this." I groaned and rubbed her back. She let out a rattling breath and held on to me like a lifeline. Her cries quieted into a soft sob.
"I can't stop crying." She sobbed. I felt my jaw clench.
"Shh." I sighed and kissed her forehead. She finally stopped crying after a while and she looked up at me with teary eyes. Her eyes met mine and she gave a bitter smile.
"Daimen?" She sighed and I raised my eyebrows questioningly. She reached up and her hand laid against my cheek. I tried to control my racing heart. Her hand slowly slipped up and ran through my hair and I forced myself not to close my eyes at the pleasurable feeling. She scratched her nails against my scalp and I unconsciously moved so my head rubbed against her hand. She met my eyes and breathed, "I'm glad you're here." I paused at her words. My heart drummed harder.
"Really?" I asked and she gave a nod. I felt a smile tugging at my lips.
"Yes. You keep me calm." She sighed.
"You keep me sane." I said and she looked at me in confusion.
She opened her mouth to say something and I smashed my lips against hers. River gasped and I pulled away for a second. I was going to apologize, but she took me by surprise when she grabbed my shirt collar and tugged me back to her, rather roughly I might add. I couldn't help the smirk on my lips, but it faded as she softly bit my bottom lip and tugged before letting go and kissing my jaw.
"River." I said shocked by what she did and admittedly turned on by the action. She didn't say anything just continued to kiss my jaw and neck before placing her seductive lips right on mine. A moan slipped past my lips and I gripped her hips and sat her in my lap properly. I felt her press against me and I broke the kiss. I looked at her and smirked at her glazed over eyes. Lust burned in her eyes with a roaring fire. Her breath fanned my lips as she looked at me.
"You're so goddam beautiful." I grunted as I leaned back in and kissed her while she hummed in content.
"River?" A voice croaked and she pulled away from me. I tried not to be disappointed.
"April!" She squealed like a child and bolted out of my lap and to the side of the hospital bed where her friend was looking around. Her eyes landed on River and relief flooded her features. I stood up and took a stand by the wall.
"Hey baby..." She said and motioned for River to come closer. I watched as she leaned in and April whispered something to her. Riv pulled away after a while and gasped.
"April." She said with a soft smile her cheeks blushed.
"Dude... You know I could still hear your little scene there right?" She said and embarrassment washed over me. But as quickly as it was there it faded into pride.
"So what?" I said and River looked me with wide eyes. April eyed me for a while.
"Really?" She said and I swallowed. I nodded softly and she raised a brow.
