Chapter 86: Chapter 86
Chapter 86 Heat
MAIA'S POV
After that nerve-wracking encounter I had with the rogues, Lucius kept me under 24/7 surveillance. I couldn't go anywhere without at least five guards following me.
"Lucius, do I still need to have five people following me around? It has been two weeks since that rogue attack. I don't need any more babysitters," I complained.
"No. You are the top priority in this pack and you must be well-protected at all times," he replied.
"Isn't five guards a little too much?" I asked.
"No. It should have been ten but you said that you didn't want a lot of guards following you around, he answered.
"Two would have been more than enough," I argued.
Before we could argue more, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Lucius said.
I looked at the door and waited for the person to enter.
"King Alpha. Queen Luna," Pamela greeted us.
"Is there something you need?" Lucius asked.
"No, King Alpha. I just wanted to let you both know that I will be leaving," she said.
"You are going home?" I asked.
"Yes, Queen Luna. I have already exceeded my stay. Besides, the rogue issues have already died down. It would be safe for me to go back. There is no need for me to stay here any longer," she explained.
"Okay then. Let me have some of the guards escort you back to your pack. Are you sure you don't want me to tell Uncle Cassian first?" Lucius asked.
"There is no need for that. I will be perfectly fine. Thank you both for your kindness. May the Moon Goddess bless you a thousand folds," she said.
"Thank you and take care of yourself," I replied.
"You as well, Queen Luna," she added.
After Lucius called the guards that would escort Pamela back to her pack, we all bid our goodbyes.
Once the car had already left, Lucius and I went back to his office.
"I have been meaning to ask, when would you like to have your ceremony? This week or next week?" Lucius asked.
"The ceremony?" I asked.
"Yes. We need to do your ceremony as soon as possible. It has been delayed for way too long and people will start getting restless knowing that their Queen Luna has already been found but is still not yet part of the pack. Some might start to question if you really are their true Queen or not," he replied.
"I know, but Pamela just left. Somehow, I feel like it would be such a disrespectful thing to do." I said.
"I clearly understand what you mean, Queen Luna. With all due respect, she was mainly the reason why your ceremony got delayed. With her being gone, we should proceed as planned regardless of what she might feel," Neal added.
"Okay," I mumbled, slowly nodding my head.
"Do you want to help plan the ceremony or do you prefer Omegas?" Lucius asked.
"When will the ceremony be?" I asked, hesitantly.
"When do you prefer, this week or next week?" Lucius replied asking.
"Can't it be in the first week of next month?" I asked, hoping for an extension.
Talking about the ceremony made me feel anxious and nervous. I felt like everything was going too fast when I knew that it was actually quite the opposite.
Lucius walked over to me and pulled me into a hug.
"What's wrong? Are you having second thoughts?" He asked.
"No," I answered, shaking my head.
"What is it then?" He asked.
"I am just feeling all nervous. Being a Luna is one thing and being Queen Luna is a whole new different level. What if I can't live up to your Mom's standards? What if I disappoint the people?" I asked, worried running through my head.
"I don't think you will be disappointing the people, Maia. As a matter of fact, they loved you even before they knew that you were their Queen. Don't think too much. Relax. Everything will be fine." he said.
I let out a sigh and nodded my head.
"If it makes you feel any better, we can have your ceremony next week. So you can also have enough time to prepare. I will have Emily and the other Omegas help you with the preparations. I don't want you to over-stress yourself, Okay?" Lucius said.
"Okay," I mumbled.
After Neal and Lucius finalized the number of guards and the schedules for the ceremony, Lucius and I went to the town to have dinner.
"This restaurant has the best steak ever. Once you get to taste it, you will beg for more," Lucius bragged.
"Well, lucky me then because I am not so big with steaks," I replied.
"How can you not like steaks, though?" He asked.
"Simple. I could never afford one, so I did not eat it a lot," I replied.
We were in the middle of debating about what should be best served with steak when I suddenly felt a sudden rush of heat all over my body.
"What's wrong? Are you okay Maia?" He asked.
"I don't know. My abdomen suddenly hurts," I replied, clutching my abdomen.
Lucius sniffed the air when he suddenly cursed, immediately running to my side.
"You are on your heat. I need to get you back to the palace," was the last thing I heard before a wave of immense pain shot through my body.
I no longer recalled what happened next. All I could remember was the overflowing pain. I had no memory of how we got home. All I knew was that I found myself in his room as I crouched in pain.
"Lucius. Help! It hurts!" I cried out.
A couple of minutes later, the pack doctor came and injected me with something. I had high hopes that whatever she gave me was going to make the pain go away. Unfortunately, it did not.
"Why is it not working?" I heard Lucius ask.
"I don't know King Alpha. It works on other she-wolves. Maybe because she has your blood that is why it did not work," the doctor replied.
"Aaarrrgghh! Do something! It really hurts!" I begged.
With my eyes closed, I felt Lucius carry me. The next thing I knew, he placed me in the bathtub filled with cold water.
The water helped soothe the pain a bit but it was as if the pain knew what was happening because it became intense.
I let out a scream as another intense wave of pain hit me.
"Is there no other remedy doctor?" I asked with tears flowing down my face.
"There is one," she replied.
I looked at her as I waited for her to continue.
"What is it then and why did you not do that in the first place?" Lucius growled.
"You two need to mate," she said.
