LUCIUS' POV

After the amazing night I had with Maia, Lucian wouldn't shut up about completing the mating process. He wanted to formally announce her as our mate and the Queen Luna of this pack. As much as I wanted to, I still needed to formally inform Uncle Cassian about Maia. I couldn't just announce Maia as my mate when he was expecting his daughter to be crowned as Queen Luna.

"Why can't I just bring you with me? You can just stay in the car or I can book a hotel near the area?" I suggested.

"No Lucius. You can't go and say, 'Oh I'm sorry your daughter won't be Queen Luna anymore. I have found my mate' while your mate is sitting a couple of feet away from their front door," Maia replied.

Before I could even utter a response, I saw Neal laughing his ass out.

"What's so funny?" I asked, glaring at him.

"Nothing. I am just glad that I won't be alone anymore to knock some senses in that brain of yours," he replied, laughing.

'Shut up!' I growled through the mind link while glaring at him.

If it wasn't for Maia, I would have strangled this so-called Beta of mine.

"You have to calm down, Lucius. Besides, you'll be gone for just a couple of days. What can possibly happen to me while I am in the castle? I survived months outside the castle and years before that, remember?" Maia said.

"But I don't want to leave you alone. There are a lot of things that can possibly happen while I am gone. I don't want to risk it," I replied, burying my face in her neck as I wrapped my arms around her waist.

"Neal is going to be here. I will be fine. Besides, someone needs to stay in here to overlook things," she said.

I was about to argue with her when there was a knock on the door. I let out a groan as I lifted my head from her neck.

'Who dares interrupt my time with my Queen?' I asked myself in my head.

"Come in," I said.

The door opened and Pamela entered.

"King Alpha. Queen Luna," she greeted us.

"Is there something you need?" I asked.

"I would like to apologize for my actions. I was clouded by my emotions and got carried away. You have informed me of Queen Luna's identity multiple times, but I did not believe it. Instead, I accused her of being a witch and almost killed her. What I did was a serious crime and deserves a death sentence. I need to be punished severely for my crimes, but you showed mercy towards me. I owe my life to both of you," she explained.

"You should thank Queen Luna. She is the one who asked to pardon you. I hope you don't make her regret doing so," I said.

I felt Maia pinch my arm and I knew exactly what she meant by it. I rubbed her arms and hugged her tighter.

"Thank you, Queen Luna," she replied, bowing her head.

"I believe that everyone deserves a second chance," Maia said.

"Once I have already informed Alpha Cassian about the cancellation of our engagement, I will prepare a carriage to take you home," I informed her.

"There is no need for that, King Alpha. I can talk to my father and explain to him about Queen Luna. You have done so much for me and this is the least I can do," she replied.

"That is a kind suggestion. However, as the King Alpha, it will be disrespectful if I don't talk to Alpha Cassian personally," I said.

"I don't want to be a burden, especially with the rogue issues. I am sure my father would understand," she replied.

"Don't worry about it, Pamela. Once the issues have been resolved, I will prepare your carriage for you," I said.

"As you wish, King Alpha," she replied.

"Alright then. Is there anything more that you need?" I asked.

"Can I talk to Queen Luna alone?" She asked in return.

My heart stopped for a moment and turned to Maia.

She looked at me and gave me a small nod.

I was still hesitant about leaving her alone with Pamela. After the stunt that Pamela pulled, I began to have trust issues with her.

"Are you sure?" I asked Maia in a low voice.

"Don't worry. I will be fine. Have a little faith," Maia answered.

'Don't you dare agree with her, Lucius,' Lucian growled in my head.

'What do you want me to do then?' I spat.

I looked at Pamela and stared at her while I was contemplating what I should do.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard Maia's voice.

"Lucius, are you okay?" she asked, looking at me worried.

"Huh?" I asked.

"You zoned out," she said.

"Oh, sorry. I was thinking of something," I replied.

She then looked at me with her eyebrows raised. It took me a couple of seconds before I understood what she meant.

I pouted at her, quietly begging to change her mind.

We stared at each other before I let out a defeated sigh.

"I'll be in the game room," I said.

She gave me a smile before I left.

'What the fuck are you doing, you stupid human?' Lucian asked, scolding me.

'To the game room, duh!' I replied.

'Are you seriously going to leave her alone with that lunatic chosen mate of yours?' He spat.

'What am I supposed to do? They want privacy. I have to respect Maia's wishes as well, you know. If it makes you feel any better, I don't like the idea either. I just don't have a choice,' I barked back.

He simply growled at me before blocking me.

Ugh! Annoying, horny mutt.

The elevator just arrived and I was about to enter when I heard Maia's voice.

"So, what is it that you wanted to talk about?" I heard her ask.
