Chapter 73 The Promise

MAIA'S POV

The past 3 days went by like a flash. Since they were busy with so much paperwork in the office, I prepared meals and snacks for them.

I didn't know why, but when I woke up this morning, there was this heavy feeling in my heart. It was like the dark clouds covering the sun on a very sunny day.

I let out a sigh and tried to shrug the uneasiness off before heading to my bathroom. The uneasiness inside me was taking a toll on my mood and it took me to finish everything that I was doing longer than it would normally take me.

As soon as I opened my bedroom door, I came face to face with none other than my Greek God of a mate.

"Good morning," he said, immediately pulling me into a hug and buried his face in my neck.

I noticed he had taken a liking to my neck that he would always find an excuse to bury his face in my neck.

"Morning," I replied.

"Why do you seem sad?" He asked, more like murmuring since his face was buried in my neck.

"I don't know. I just woke up with this uneasiness. Don't worry. I'm sure it will be gone soon. What time are you heading to the hospital?" I replied, asking about his plans.

He told me last night that he had to go to the pack hospital today to prepare for the full moon. There is this injection that he had to get at least 8 hours before the full moon to help with the pain. When I asked him why, he said that the medicine took a long time to have its effect.

"After breakfast," he answered.

"Let's make breakfast then," I said, trying to lift our moods up.

He lifted his head up and looked me in the eye.

"What are we making?" he asked.

"French toast," I replied.

His face lit up and smiled.

"Let's go," he said, holding my hand as we walked towards the elevator.

We got out of the elevator when we bumped into Emily.

"Good morning, King Alpha. Good morning, Queen Luna," she greeted with a small bow.

"Good morning, Emily," we greeted back.

"I was just about to head to your room, Queen Luna. I am sorry for being late," she apologized.

"You are not late, Emily. I simply woke up early. Come on, we are heading to the kitchen," I replied.

As soon as we arrived in the kitchen, the Omegas were surprised to see their King Alpha.

"King Alpha. Queen Luna. Is there a specific meal you would like to have for breakfast?" The head of the Omegas asked.

"No need to worry. We are here to prepare breakfast for everyone. Right, King Alpha?" I said, looking at Lucius as I waited for the confirmation.

He looked me in the eye and nodded.

"Yes, my Queen," he replied.

"Allow us to help then, Queen Luna," the head Omega said.

I smiled at her and nodded as I replied, "Sure."

The head Omega took out the ingredients we needed while the other Omegas took out the bowls and plates we were going to use.

Once everything was prepared, Lucius and I sat on a chair while we were dipping the bread in the egg and milk mixture and the Omegas were the ones frying them.

After the food was cooked, we called everyone to the big dining area and ate breakfast together with the Omegas and the guards.

"Thank you so much, King Alpha and Queen Luna, for the delicious breakfast," the head Omega said.

"No. I am the one who should thank you. All of you have been here for me all this year and I have never appreciated you all enough," Lucius replied.

"It is an honor to serve you, King Alpha," one of the guards added.

I couldn't help but smile at their remarks. Knowing that all these people cared for him was something incredible.

Right after we finished breakfast, I went with Lucius to the pack hospital for his injection.

"Have you already upgraded the serum for tonight?" Lucius asked while the doctor was injecting him.

"Yes, King Alpha. It is on the final stage and will be ready before the full moon tonight," she replied.

After his injections and a blood withdrawal, we went back to the castle. He insisted we spend the day together before the full moon tonight.

"So, what do you want to do this afternoon?" I asked while we were in the elevator.

"Read me a book," he replied.

I looked at him with my brows furrowed.

"You want me to read you a book? Bedtime stories, huh?" I asked.

He simply chuckled as he shook his head.

"You'll see," he replied.

He took my hand and led me to his room. I sat on the edge of his bed as he headed towards his bookshelf.

"Here," he said, handing me a book.

I looked at it and saw that it was the same copy of a book that I have in my room - Golden Heart.

"I have the same copy in my room," I said.

"That is Mom's favorite book. She made sure that each one of us had our own copies," he replied, sitting next to me.

"It is a beautiful book indeed. I can see why," I commented.

"She used to read this book to us when we were still kids," he said.

"Come on then. Let's get started it, " I suggested.

I sat at the far end of his bed and leaned my back on the headboard while he lay his head on my lap.

Once he was settled down, I opened the book and started reading the first page. Five pages later, Lucius was already asleep.

As I stared at him, I could see all the lines on his forehead from all the stress he had been dealing with for the past couple of years. It amazes me how his body reacts to my touch, knowing that it was all the work of the mate bond.

I sat there for the next four hours, watching him sleep. It seemed like he had not been getting a proper sleep for quite some time because the circles under his eyes were becoming darker.

"I promise to be here for you until the end."
