Chapter 68: Chapter 68
Chapter 68 Hello, Love
LUCIUS' POV
For the next couple of days, I spent most of my time with Maia. After what happened in the dungeon, I couldn't bear the thought of losing her anymore. Whether I was in the office or she was in her room painting, we are always together.
"Can you stop moving so much, please? It's hard to paint someone who changes position every 5 seconds," Maia said.
She volunteered me to be her model for today. So, here I was sitting by the window while trying to do some work.
"Maia, I can't just sit still for 2 hours. I have a lot of work to finish, and I won't be done with it if I can't move," I replied, giving her a small puppy face, hoping she would let me go.
"I didn't tell you to stop moving completely but stop moving your body too much. One second you are sitting with your legs across the stool and the next second, I look up, you have our legs crossed. You will look like a retarded frog if you keep doing that," she said.
"A what? A retarded frog? Did you just compare me - a handsome King Alpha, to a frog?" I asked, pretending to be hurt while looking at her mischievously.
She simply giggled and started running the moment she saw me put down my laptop. We ran around the room until she went for the door.
We stopped abruptly when we saw Neal, who was about to knock on the door.
"Hi, Neal!" Maia greeted him.
"Queen Luna, King Alpha," he greeted back.
"Is there something you need?" I asked him.
"Um, Yes, King Alpha. The elders are requesting your presence. They said that it is urgent, and they are waiting in your office," he replied.
"I see. I will be right there," I said.
As soon as Neal left, I turned to Maia, who was looking at me.
"I'm sorry. I have to see what they want. As soon as I am done, why don't we have a picnic? Sounds good?" I asked.
"Now go!" She simply replied with a smile.
I took my laptop and went straight to my office. Being far from her for even a couple of minutes made Lucian sad.
'What do those Elders want now, huh? I swear I will send them to a nursing home if they keep interrupting my time with my mate,' Lucian complained.
'Relax, Lucian. Have you forgotten that we are the King Alpha? It is our duty. We will be back with her as soon as we are done with whatever they want,' I replied.
Before he could complain more, I pushed him to the back of my head and entered my office.
"Good morning, Elders," I greeted them as I walked towards my table.
"Good morning, King Alpha," they chorused.
"To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" I asked, pulling out the chair at the head of the table.
"King Alpha, we are quite aware of Queen Luna and so are the rest of the people and we are truly happy that you have finally found the one who will take care of this pack with you. However, our neighboring packs know nothing but a mere rumor. We think it is time for you to announce and crown Queen Luna her rightful throne," the head of the elders said.
"I see, and I suppose you will also tell me the consequences if I don't?" I asked, knowing how the minds of these Elders work.
They looked at each other and gulped down their fear.
"Forgive us, King Alpha. It has been a rule from a long time ago that a King Alpha can't rule a pack without a Queen Luna for over 5 years," one Elder replied.
"Besides, you have already found your mate, King Alpha. What's the delay with the ceremony?" another Elder asked.
"Are you questioning my decisions? Last time I checked, I AM THE KING ALPHA. Dare to question my actions?" I growled.
They all looked down at the table while shivering with fear.
"Forgive me, King Alpha. I was simply voicing out my thoughts. It won't happen again," the same Elder who dared question me said.
"Next time, voice out your thoughts properly. I don't tolerate disrespect in my pack," I replied through gritted teeth.
Lucian was on the verge of coming out and snapping the necks of these annoying Elders.
"If you have nothing else to say, you may all leave," I announced, standing up from my chair and heading to my swivel chair behind my table.
They all stood up quietly and left one by one.
As soon as they left, Neal barged in with a worried look.
"Did you really have to go too hard on them?" He asked, sitting across my table.
"What? Are you also questioning my decisions now?" I spat.
"Woah! Relax, Lucius. What happened? You were in an excellent mood before you entered your office. What did they say that got you all creased up like this?" He asked.
I leaned back in my swivel chair and let out an exhausted sigh.
"They want me to crown Maia as soon as possible and you, out of all people, know that we can't do that yet," I replied.
"Don't worry. We'll figure this out. One way or another, we will. Don't stress out too much," he said.
If I only knew that choosing Pamela as my chosen mate would be a problem, I wouldn't have chosen her in the first place.
"I will be at the clearing training the guards if you need me." Neal said before standing up and leaving my office.
As soon as I was alone, my thoughts went back to what the Elders said.
It was true that one couldn't rule a pack without a mate for a long time, but the situation I had in hand was much more complicated than it looked.
I didn't know what had happened to Pamela. I thought she knew that this day would eventually happen, and she would be fine with it, but she was being so hard right now.
My thoughts were interrupted when my phone rang. I looked at the caller I.D. and instantly smiled.
"Hello, Love. It has been a long time. I thought you already forgot me," I greeted upon answering the call.
