Chapter 55: Chapter 55

Chapter 55 Bring her home

NEAL'S POV

It had been almost 2 weeks and Lucius' condition did not show any signs of improvement. He was still in that demonic form of his and I had a perfect idea on how to get him back to his normal self, but I knew he would not like it at all.

When I saw Pamela on her way to check up on him, I had to lie and make up an excuse so she would not see him.

Lucius was still looking the same, and he had never stayed like that for so long. I was getting extremely worried about him. With all the uncertainties with his curse, I was certain of one thing - Maia. I knew for a fact that the mate bond was making his curse worse.

As I sat beside his bed, watching and waiting for him to wake up, there was only one thought running through my mind - to bring Maia back.

"I don't know what else to do, man. I can't keep hiding you from everyone. People have been looking for you and they are getting worried. Heck, I am more worried. She is my only chance of hope right now. So, promise me you will hang in there until I come back. Okay? I promise we will get through this. Just like always." I said to unconscious Lucius.

I left the room and called for the doctor and ten of the best guards in the castle.

"I'll be leaving for a while. I want you to keep watching King Alpha. No one goes in and out of his room. Tonight, we will move him to the Lake House. I want it guarded with the best men and as discreetly as possible. The only person who can enter and leave the Lake House is the doctor. Understood?" I instructed them.

As soon as it was already dark, we moved Lucius to the Lake House. I knew that if there were guards outside the room, Pamela would try to enter the room and create chaos. That way, she would not know that Lucius was not really in the castle.

Once I knew Lucius was safe and taken care of, I started my journey. A couple of weeks after Maia left, I sent out a "Being on the lookout" notice to all the werewolves I knew from all the towns she might go to. Luckily, one of them responded, saying that they had seen her in town.

I took the car instead of the bus. With such long travels like that, I hated being stuck with no other forms of transportation except being in my wolf form. Besides, it was not safe to travel on public transportation, with Uriah's location being unknown. There were human towns on the way, and Uriah was not one to care about humans.

After long hours of driving, I had finally arrived in Rivervale. As I looked around, I saw how simple life was on the outskirts.

'No wonder why Maia was here. No chaos, no rush. She could easily blend in with the people.' I thought to myself.

I stopped the car at the address that my informant gave me and slowly got out of the car. Looking at my phone one last time, I double-checked that I had the right name of the store.

After taking a deep breath, I made my way to the entrance of the store. With one sniff from the door, I already felt that Maia was inside.

"I'm sorry. We are already..."

She looked like she had seen a ghost when she looked up.

"Hello, Maia." I greeted, breaking the silence between us.

It took her a couple of minutes before she could realize that I was indeed in front of her.

"What are you doing here?" She asked.

"How are you? Are you doing well?" I asked.

"I am fine. You did not answer my question, though." She replied, going back to her question.

"I am here to talk to you, Maia. It is something very important." I replied.

"Is it Lucius? Is he finally going to crown Pamela as Queen Luna?" She asked.

"It's not about that. Um, is there someplace private where we can talk?" I asked.

"Yeah. Let me just finish up here and I will meet you outside." She replied.

I went out to the front and waited for her. A couple of minutes later, she came out. I watched her lock the store before she walked towards me.

"Follow me." She said, heading towards the playground.

I followed behind her until she stopped at a bench. She sat on one bench and I sat next to her.

"How did you find me?" She asked as soon as I sat down.

I let out a sigh, knowing she would ask me this question.

"When you left, I was worried about your safety. Without knowing Uriah's whereabouts, I had to know that you were being looked after. I reached out to a couple of colleagues from the neighbouring packs until Nana informed me you ended up in her shop and she took you in. Before you get the wrong idea, you were already with her when she informed me about you." I explained.

She simply nodded and hummed.

"So, why did you come? It must be something important for you to come all the way here." She asked.

"It's Lucius. He is not doing well." I said.

She looked at me with her face full of worries.

"What's wrong?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"He is sick and we can't find the cure for his sickness. Our only hope is you. Since you are his true mate, we hope that the mate bond will help heal him. I know that this is a lot for me to ask, but -" I replied when she interrupted me.

"When are we leaving?" She asked.

Her response surprised me. I thought she would decline my request.

"As soon as possible, if that is okay with you," I replied.

"Okay. Let me talk with Nana and let her know I would leave for a while." She said.

I just sat there staring at her, completely taken aback by her response.

"What?" She asked.

"Huh?" I asked.

"You have been staring at me for the past 5 minutes. You are creeping me out." She said.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that. I just didn't think that this conversation would go like this. Knowing the past and what happened, I thought I would have to beg you to come and spare him a glance." I confessed.

"Well, you can beg?" She asked.

I let out a laugh as I looked at her, smiling.

"Thank you, Maia. Lucius and our pack are so blessed that you are his mate. We owe you for everything that you have done for our pack and are still about to do." I said.

"I have done nothing yet. Well, we better get back to the house then so that I can inform Nana about leaving so that we can get going." She replied.

I smiled at her and followed as she walked back to where she stayed. She told me about what she had been doing over the past couple of months, and I was proud of how she handled everything. As the Beta of the pack, I could not help but feel so proud that our Queen Luna had a big heart and a smart mind.
