Chapter 15: Chapter 15

Chapter 15 Tough Choice

LUCIUS' POV

Maia had been unconscious for 3 days already. Not once did I leave her alone in the room. I was still shaken about the baby. She never told me that she was pregnant.

While the pack doctor was checking her vitals, I was raging with anger. Neal had to keep holding me down because Lucian was losing it every time the doctor had to touch her or inject a medicine through her IV.

"These medicines should help her recover quickly. She doesn't seem to have any broken bones or any serious complications. She went under a lot of stress and is under some trauma. Her wolf seems to be weak, and it is affecting her healing," the doctor said.

I walked over to the other side of the bed and sat in the space near her. I held her cold hand as I stared at her pale face.

"What about the baby?" l asked, quietly hoping that everything was okay.

"I'm sorry, King Alpha. There was no other way to save the fetus. Also, we would need to perform a dilation and curettage surgery on her to remove any remaining tissues from her uterus." the doctor replied.

I wanted to rip her head off, but I knew that it wasn't her fault or anything.

"Do it." I ordered.

For them to be able to do what they had to, I had to go out on a run. There was no way they would be able to do their jobs properly if I was right there stopping them from holding her. Once they were done, I came running back to Maia.

With everybody gone from the room, I sat by the bed and held her hand.

'Look at what you have done! You keep putting our mate in danger! When will you ever learn?' Lucian spat in my head.

'Do you think that if I just show her my beastly demonic face, she will come running to me?' I asked, implying on something.

When Lucian did not reply, I scoffed.

'I thought so.' I said before blocking him from the mind link.

I stayed with her in the room for the next couple of days. Not once did I leave her.

I jumped from the chair when I heard someone shout. It was Maia.

I immediately ran over to her side.

'Neal, call the pack doctor. She's awake.' I told Neal through the mind link.

"You should lie down. Where does it hurt?" I said, asking if she was in any pain.

She looked at her stomach, then at me.

Shit! How would I tell her that she lost the baby? What would I even say?

I let out a sigh and looked at her.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were pregnant?" I asked.

I tried to stay calm, but the pain was starting to grow stronger.

"I wasn't sure if I was." She said, her voice was almost a whisper.

I let out a sigh of defeat. If only I knew, I could have protected both of them.

Before I could say anything, the doctor arrived.

When she asked about the baby, I was ready to rip anybody's neck.

"I swear I will make him pay for touching you, hurting you, and killing our baby." I growled low as I pulled her into a hug.

I kept her in my arms as she cried her pain out. It was heart-breaking seeing her like this. If only I could take away her pain, I would.

She had been crying for hours and eventually she fell asleep. I laid her comfortably on the bed and tucked her in. Even though she was already asleep, I could still see the worry and pain on her face. I brushed the loose hair off her face and kissed her on the forehead.

I sat on the chair by the window and watched her. Although my eyes were closed, I was still aware of my surroundings.

When Maia's heartbeat became rapid, I knew she was awake.

"How are you feeling?" I asked.

"I don't know." She whispered.

I got up from the chair and walked over to the bed, sitting beside her.

"You don't have to be afraid. Say whatever you feel." I said.

She did not say anything. Instead, she cried.

"It's going to be okay. I promise." I said, pulling her into a hug.

I tried to spend as much time as possible with her. Unfortunately, I still had to look for Uriah and find out about the witch that was working with him. For the next couple of days, I spent all my time in the office.

"Really, Lucius?" Neal asked, interrupting my focus.

"Really what?" I asked, annoyed.

"Your mate just woke up from being unconscious; one who is also mourning for your unborn baby, yet here you are burying yourself with work? You gotta be kidding me!" he exclaimed.

"Mourning won't help me find Uriah or the witch that is helping him. Working and searching will." I replied.

I buried my face in my hands as I let out a frustrated sigh.

"You don't have to pretend that you are okay, even though you are not. It's not bad to mourn for your loss. Your mate needs you more than ever. Is finding Uriah or the witch going to bring your unborn child back? I don't think so, but what you can do is comfort your mate," he said candidly.

When I did not say anything, he left. I stared at my laptop and let out a very annoyed groan. I had been thinking about what Neal said and an idea came up in my mind. I got up from my seat and took my car keys.

After a quick trip to the supermarket, I went straight to my private kitchen and prepared my favorite meal for Maia. My mom taught me how to make chicken cordon bleu and it was her favorite food.

Once I was done preparing the food, I mind linked Emily to bring the food to Maia's room while I finished making the dessert. I really did hope that she would like the meal that I had prepared for her. Hopefully, this would lift her mood up.

After the caramel custard was already cooked, I placed it on another plate and took it myself to Maia.

When I arrived, she seemed to have just started eating. Lucian wanted to take her right there and then when she moaned, as she took a bite of her food.

"If you're going to keep moaning like that, I might eat you for dinner instead." I said.

She was very flustered, and I could smell her arousal as well. It was driving me crazy.

As much as I wanted to have a light conversation with her, I knew it wouldn't be possible. Just as I had thought, she asked about Uriah and my relationship with him. She wanted to know the reason why Uriah and I had a fallout and I wasn't sure if I was ready for that conversation already.

My peaceful time with my mate was disturbed when Neal interrupted.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but Pamela is here," he said.

Shit! What the hell was she doing here?

"What is she doing here? I thought you canceled her visit?" I asked, trying to hide the panic rising within me.

"I did." Neal replied.

Damn it!

"Who is Pamela?" Maia asked.

I looked at Neal, and it felt as if my world stopped.

'What do I tell her, Neal?' I asked through the mind link.

'I don't know. She's your mate, not mine!' he exclaimed.

'It's your fault, not mine either! If you told me through the mind link she wouldn't know, stupid!' I yelled.

"I'll be right back. Please eat your dessert while waiting." I said, kissing her on the head before I left.

This is a big problem.

"Where is she?" I asked Neal.

"Waiting in your office," he replied.

"Make sure that no one goes in and out of Maia's room." I instructed.

"Yes, King Alpha," he replied.

I entered my office, and I saw Pamela sitting on the sofa.

"Hi, Pamela. What a surprise!" I said, greeting her.

"Lucius! I missed you." She exclaimed, running to me to hug me.

I was surprised by her actions.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, pushing her lightly away from me.

"Don't you miss me? I came all the way here to visit you and you asked me why I'm here?"She asked, pouting.

"I'm sorry. You know I do. I am just asking because I thought we cancelled your visit? I have a very busy schedule these next few weeks and I don't want you sitting inside your room while you are already bored out." I replied.

Half of what I said was true and half of it wasn't.

"I missed you and I was worried about you. I wanted to see you, that is why I came." she replied.

This was going to be a problem. How would I tell Pamela that I had found my real mate?
