Chapter 13: Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Maia's POV
I woke up with a bad headache. When I tried to get up, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach.
"Aaarghh!" I exclaimed, holding onto my stomach; I suddenly felt sparks shot throughout my body.
"You should lie down. Where does it hurt?" Lucius asked.
I looked at my stomach, then at him. I wanted to ask him about the baby, but I was scared to do so.
"Why didn't you tell me that you were pregnant?" He asked.
His voice was so calm, but filled with pain.
"I wasn't sure if I was." I mumbled.
I heard him let out a sigh. Before any of us could say something, the pack doctor arrived.
"Do you feel any pain?" The doctor asked.
I nodded my head and said," My head hurts and my stomach."
She checked my eyes and then my breathing. Later on, she checked on my stomach. While doing so, I took the courage to ask her if I was really pregnant.
"What about my baby?" l asked.
"I am so sorry, but you had a miscarriage." the doctor replied.
I couldn't help but cry. I felt like my heart was being ripped apart.
"I swear I will make him pay for touching you, hurting you, and killing our baby." He growled lowly as he pulled me into a hug.
I didn't remember how long I cried for. All I remembered was being in Lucius' arms as I mourned.
After hours of crying, I fell asleep and when I woke up, the room was dark. The only light that was in the room was from the moonlight seeping through the window. I could see someone sleeping on the chair beside the window. My heart skipped a beat when I realized that the sleeping person was Lucius.
"How are you feeling?" He asked, scaring the living shit out of me.
"I don't know." I whispered.
He got up from the chair and walked over to the bed.
"You don't have to be afraid. Say whatever you feel," he said.
As if on cue, my eyes brimmed with tears and broke down in tears.
"It's going to be okay. I promise," he said, pulling me into a hug.
I cried until I couldn't cry any more. I never knew that the pain of losing a child was so unbearable.
For the next couple of days, I barely ate or talked to anyone. I just laid on the bed and stared at the window.
'I'm so sorry, Maia. I wasn't able to protect your baby.' Avi apologized.
'It wasn't your fault, Avi; don't blame yourself.' I replied.
'But Maia, how long will you mourn and abandon yourself ?' She asked.
'I don't know, Avi. It's like I lost the will to live when I lost my little munchkin.' I replied.
'Did you realize that you just gave your baby an adorable nickname?' She asked, trying to lighten the mood.
'I feel like a total failure.' I confessed.
'You did your best, Maia. Don't be too hard on yourself.' Avi said, comforting me.
It had been two weeks since I regained consciousness. I only realized today that I wasn't in the same room I was before. The room that I was in was much livelier than before, as if it was a guest room or somebody's room. l opened the wardrobe, and it was full of dresses.
'I wonder who owns these dresses.' I said to myself.
'Maybe they are meant to be yours.' Avi suggested.
'I doubt that. These dresses belong to someone. Maybe it belongs to his girlfriend.' I replied, guessing who the owner might be.
'You don't know that!' She interjected and I could feel that she didn't want what I said to be true.
I went to the vanity and opened the drawers. There were hair brushes, hairpins, ribbons, and makeup. A specific picture frame caught my eye at the bookshelf at the corner of the room. I went over to the bookshelf and took a closer look at the photo. It was a photo of a young woman sitting in the middle of a flower field. She looked so beautiful and happy. Suddenly, I felt a pang of sadness.
Was I jealous?
I saw a box beside the bookshelf and opened it. There were more pictures of the same woman. There was even one picture where she was holding a baby.
Holy shit! He already had a child?
The thought of my mate having a family with another she-wolf was heartbreaking. I waited for him all my life while he was already building a family with another she-wolf.
'Maia, Stop assuming and getting ahead of yourself. What if that is his sister? Or his grandmother?' Avi exclaimed, clearly pissed at my assumptions.
'It's not like it matters anymore.' I replied.
I stared at the photos for a bit more before putting them back in the box. I laid back on the bed as my mind went back to my poor, unborn, child.
A few hours later, Emily arrived, carrying a tray of food.
"Here's your dinner. King Alpha cooked it specially just for you." She said with a smile.
I looked at the food on the tray and saw that it was a chicken cordon bleu with white sauce; I began to salivate despite my foul mood.
"He did?" I asked.
Why would he prepare dinner for me?
"Your dessert will be on its way." She said.
I stared at the food in front of me.
'What are you waiting for, Maia? Our mate prepared dinner for us. Why are you not eating it?' she asked.
'I just don't get it. Why did he cook dinner for us? He has the time to cook, but no time to visit us?' I replied with a question.
'Maybe he was busy, and this is his way of apologising.' Avi said, guessing.
I let out a sigh as I picked up the spoon and fork. I took a bite of the cordon bleu and couldn't help, but let out a moan.
"Mmmm..." I sighed with satisfaction.
"If you're going to keep moaning like that, I might eat you for dinner instead." A voice said.
My eyes widened in shock. I was flustered.
I hid my blushing face when I heard his footsteps approaching the rear.
"Don't hide. You look beautiful, regardless." Lucius said, touching my chin as he lifted my face.
My heart was skipping beats, and I couldn't make a move.
"Don't you like the food prepared for you? Does it not taste good? I can make you something else if you'd prefer that." he asked.
"No. I mean, the food tastes great. Thank you." I replied.
"So why are you not eating, then? Do you want me to feed you?" He asked, pulling out a chair and sitting next to me.
"Where were you, Lucius? I have been locked up here for two weeks and not once did you come to visit." I asked.
"I'm sorry. I have been very busy with paperwork." he replied.
"Where is Uriah?" I asked.
"Don't worry about him. Just focus on your health. I will make sure that he gets the punishment he deserves." He replied.
"Is he your brother?" I asked.
He was quiet for a couple of seconds.
"He is," he said with a sigh.
Even though Uriah told me that Lucius was bad and vicious, a part of me needed to hear what really happened from his own mouth.
"What happened between the two of you?" I asked.
"If you finish your dinner first, I will answer all your questions." he said.
When I didn't move, he took my spoon and fork and spoon fed me. Even though I kept telling him that I could feed myself, he insisted on feeding me.
There was a complete silence between us as he fed me. I noticed that he would casually smile while I was chewing on my food.
Our peaceful time together was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Enter." Lucius said.
I looked at the door as I waited for the person to enter.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but Pamela is here." Neal, the beta, said.
"What is she doing here? I thought you canceled her visit." Lucius asked.
"I did." Neal replied.
"Who is Pamela?" I asked.
Neal and Lucius looked at each other, then at me.
"I'll be right back. Please eat your dessert while waiting." Lucius said.
Before I could even ask or object, they already left. I went to the bookshelf and took the picture frame.
'Is she Pamela?' I asked myself.
