Chapter 102: Chapter 102
Chapter 102 Pressure
LUCIUS' POV
For the next couple of weeks, I was just in bed. Literally in bed. Maia ensured that I would not be moving anywhere by putting a nurse to keep an eye on me and guarding my bedroom door.
I was suddenly like a prisoner at my own house.
Thankfully, after three long weeks, I was given the go signal. Even while I was on bed rest, Maia never allowed me to work. No matter how much I argued with her about letting me work, she did not allow me.
"Now that I am done with my bed rest, it is your turn, my Queen," I said as I massaged Maia's back.
"There are a lot of things to do. Besides, I am not sick. I don't need any bed rest. You, Mister, have to take things slowly. It does not mean that just because you are out of bed-rest, you can go back to your old ways of overworking yourself," she said.
"You are starting to sound like me. When did you start being such a workaholic?" I asked.
"Since she had to run the whole pack herself. It's good to finally see you outside of your room, King Alpha," Neal replied.
I looked at Neal and smiled at him.
"How dare you let your Queen Luna do all the work? Do I need to replace you already?" I asked, teasing Neal.
"Easy now, King Wolf. Queen Luna here is actually worse than you. If it would make you feel any better, I am more scared of her than you," he replied.
I looked at him, surprised by his reply.
"Wow, that is something new. I wonder what Maia did to make you feel scared of her," I said, walking to the table.
"Excuse me! I am right here, you know," Maia interrupted.
I couldn't help but laugh at her response.
"It's not my fault. It is his!" Neal exclaimed, pointing at me.
"Really?" I asked.
Maia glared at both of us before pushing me away from the table.
"Where am I supposed to do my work?" I asked.
"You have a meeting with the elders. We will take care of all the paperwork while you are in the meeting. If you want Neal to be there, he can," she said with a suggestion.
I looked at Neal before I looked back at her.
"Why don't you attend it with me?" I asked
"I can't. I have a lot of things to finish, and I will never have a meeting with the elders. Ever," she replied.
Neal was laughing as soon as Maia replied.
"The elders have been scarred for life," Neal said.
I looked at Neal, confused.
"Did something happen that I am supposed to know?" I asked, looking at Neal then at Maia.
Neal looked at Maia as I waited for one of them to answer.
"Let's just say that Queen Luna had a very interesting meeting with them and fireworks happened. Right, Queen Luna?" Neal replied.
"You can say that," she added.
I looked at Maia, hoping I could get a better explanation. However, she did not even look at me.
"You should start moving before they find you," Maia said.
"Are you coming with me, Neal?" I asked, turning my head to look at him.
"Sorry. I have to pass on this. I need to help Queen Luna in the office. Besides, you can take care of the elders. We have more important things to finish than join that meeting," Neal replied.
"Something is fishy, and none of you are telling me anything," I said, looking at Maia and Neal.
"If I were you, I would stop thinking about it and go to the freakin meeting before I drag you by the ears," Maia threatened.
Neal looked at me with a weird look before sitting behind his desk.
I shook my head and headed over to the door.
"Do I get a good luck kiss or anything?" I asked Maia.
"Good luck," she said, waving her hand without even lifting her head from what she was reading.
She had undoubtedly become a workaholic.
I went to the study room where the meeting was held.
"Welcome back, King Alpha. It was so great to see you out of bed finally. Thank the Moon Goddess for her mercy," one of the elders greeted.
"It is indeed great to be finally out of bed," I replied.
"We wanted to talk to you about certain things," another elder said.
"Okay. What is it then?" I asked, leaning my back on the chair.
"The first on our list is your brother. It has been eight months, and he has still not received his judgement. What are your plans for him, King Alpha?" Another elder asked.
"And what are you trying to imply?" I asked, trying to keep calm.
"He did not just betray the pack, but he also helped in doing some unforgivable things. Have you forgotten that he is the reason why you were in a coma in the first place?" Another asked.
"My brother is my concern. He is my business and is none of your concerns. I will deal with him myself!" I exclaimed.
"But King Alpha -" another said before I cut him off by banging my hands on the table.
"If you have nothing better to talk about, then I suggest you do your jobs properly. I do not want to hear another word about my brother!" I exclaimed before leaving the study room.
I was fuming with anger as I made my way back to the office. I did not care if Maia and Neal were working when I banged the door as I entered.
"Woah! What got your panties all crumpled up?" Neal asked.
"Shut it, Neal. I am in no mood to joke around," I replied.
I sat on the sofa as I crumpled a magazine in my hand.
"What's wrong, Lucius?" Maia asked, sitting next to me.
"Those elders wanted to decide on what to do with my brother. MY BROTHER!" I growled.
She held my hand as she patted my back.
"Your brother is your brother. Only you can decide what you want to do with him, and no one can question you for that. You are not the King Alpha for nothing," she said.
"Did you at least curse at them?" Neal asked.
"No. I yelled at them before walking out. How dare they question me?!" I replied.
"That is why they are more scared of Queen Luna than you," Neal said, chuckling.
"Now is not the time, Neal. Shut it before I shove your ass in the dungeon!" Maia exclaimed.
Something with what he said spiked my curiosity.
"What do you mean by that, Neal?" I asked.
"Well, if you think that the elders did not try asking her about Uriah, boy, you are so wrong. She flipped out on them and gave them an earful before throwing them out of the office. It was such a great sight to see the elders all scared of a woman," Neal replied.
I looked at Maia, who was glaring at Neal.
"How dare they? Let's see if they can still do so once I snap their necks," I growled.
I was about to stand up when Maia stopped me.
"Lucius, you have to calm down. Killing is not always the answer. I know that you hate that they are trying to decide for you, but you also have to understand how they feel. After what happened, they feel scared and mad at Uriah. He ruined almost everything. Look at how many lives we lost during the war, the number of bereaved families, and the number of traumatized kids and adults. They are just worried about the people, Lucius. I know they don't have the right to decide about this situation or even force you to do something right away, but you have to see this situation from both sides. I did not want to decide on my own because, in the end, the person that he has hurt the most is you," she said.
