Chapter 10: Chapter 10
Chapter 10 Knight In Shining Armor
MAIA'S POV
I woke up from my nightmare only to realize that it was no nightmare; what I had experienced a few hours ago was real.
Wait! Where was I?
I looked around the room and tried to determine where I was, but I could decipher nothing.
'Avi? Are you there?' I called out frantically through the mind link.
'Yes, I'm here.' she replied.
I let out a sigh of relief, knowing that she was okay. That meant I was not drugged or anything. Once a werewolf couldn't reach his or her wolf, there was a high possibility that he or she had been injected with wolfsbane or silver. Wolfsbane and silver were both lethal to werewolves. These two elements could not only separate us from our inner wolves and from our packs, but they also blocked us from communicating with anyone through the mind link. The worst effect of wolfsbane and silver was slow and painful death.
'Do you remember anything? Do you know where we are?' I asked Avi again, clearly worried.
One thing I hated the most was not being able to remember anything. During times like these, memory was very vital to any werewolf. It was our foremost ability for survival.
'I don't know, Maia. All I remember is that we were fighting off Rogues in the forest. I don't remember what happened after that,' she replied.
Suddenly, memories of that night came flashing back.
I was running through the forest. Neal, the Beta, helped me escape that night. I remembered hearing a loud growl when I stepped foot in the forest.
Neal warned me to run and never look back, no matter what happened. I failed the last part because I stopped for a second and looked back at the castle when I heard another monstrous growl from the coming from the castle.
Even though Lucius had been a complete asshole, he was still my mate and the father of my unborn child.
'Holy shit! The child! Avi, how's the baby?' I asked, extremely worried about the baby.
I still couldn't believe that I had completely forgotten about my baby.
'I can't really say, Maia. Until the baby has a heartbeat, I won't be able to know how the baby is faring.' she replied nervously.
'Shit! I need to get back home. I swear if something happens to my baby, I will tear those nasty Rogues apart.' I seethed.
I gathered all my strength to stand up so I could investigate more and try to recognize where I was. Hopefully, I could escape.
I walked towards the door, and upon checking, it was not locked.
'Huh! This looks like a déjà vu.' I scoffed in my head.
I tried guessing where I was, but I still could not fathom where I was. It was completely empty and the house looked old. It was made of wood. More like a cabin, I would say.
I heard the crackling of fire in the living room. Someone must be there. I peeked to check how many people were there.
"Uriah?" I called out to a familiar male figure even though the person was backing me. I hoped to goddess that I was right.
The man turned around and said, "Maia, you're awake. Do you feel pain anywhere? Are you okay? You gave me quite a scare."
"Where am I? What am I doing here?" I asked, confused.
"I found you in the forest. You were being attacked by three rogues. You looked like you could barely hold yourself up. Just after you fainted in your wolf form, you shifted back into human form. It looked like your wolf could barely hold it, either. What's going on? "He replied, asking about what happened.
I sat on the dusty couch as I recollected my thoughts. I was in deep thought and completely spaced out when Uriah called out my name, pulling me out of my trance. "Maia?"
"Huh?" I asked, completely lost.
"You have been staring at the floor for the past ten minutes. What the hell is going on, Maia? Where have you been the past few weeks?" He asked.
I glared at him and scoffed.
"As if you really care! Have you forgotten how you cheated on me and kept me waiting on the day of my birthday?" I spat in anger.
"I'm sorry, Maia. It was a huge mistake. You know I love you. I don't know what came over me that day. I swear." he replied, apologizing for his fucked up attitude.
"Save it, Uriah! There is no need for you to lie. We are not mates anyway. You can go and fuck whoever you want." I growled and he was taken aback for a moment.
"What do you mean? Have you met your mate?" he asked.
"Unfortunately, he is an asshole like you. I don't even know why I always get stuck with assholes." I replied.
"Who is he?" he asked.
"Why do you care, Uriah? Do you want to team up with him and go fuck other girls together?" I snapped.
"Do you still hate me that much even after I saved you in the forest?" He asked.
"I don't remember asking you for help. So, if you are looking for a thank you, you can go find it with your bitch!" I yelled at him, completely disgusted by the fact that he was trying to guilt-trip me because he had saved me.
I stood up and was about to open the cabin door when he stopped me.
"What the hell do you want, Uriah?" I asked angrily.
"Lower your voice, Maia," he whispered.
"What is it this time?" I hissed and placed my hands on my hips.
He pointed at his nose, and that was when it hit me.
'Rogues!' Avi exclaimed.
I froze in my place with my eyes wide open.
"Stay away from the door. Get down. Now!" He whispered harshly.
I went behind the couch where he was and hid.
"I will check how many rogues are outside," he whispered.
He went by the window and peeked through the curtains. I crawled to the kitchen and peeked through the kitchen window and saw three rogues. I went back behind the couch and waited for Uriah.
"There are three rogues on the east side of the cabin," I whispered.
"There are five in the front and four more at the back." He whispered back.
"There are way too many! We have to get out of here." I exclaimed in a whisper.
"Come! There is a secret passage here. We can get out of here through there." He whispered, pointing at the end of the hallway.
I followed behind him to the secret passage. He lifted the secret door from the floor and motioned for me to wait until he saw it was clear.
When he motioned for me to follow, I quietly slipped through the passage and closed the secret door above me. I followed him until we reached the end of the tunnel. He opened the door, and we were at the outskirts of the forest.
We ran through the forest until I recognized where we were.
"Wait! I know a place we can hide." I said.
I led the way to the lighthouse. I was relieved when everything was still the same way the lighthouse was when I left it.
"How did you know about this place?" Uriah asked.
"It's like my secret hideout." I replied.
I sat on the bed as I evened my breathing.
"Maybe they were sent by your mate to bring you back to his pack," he said.
"No, they are not. He wouldn't send someone after me." I replied.
"Who is he, really? And why are you running away from him?" he asked.
"He thinks I'm an accomplice to whoever it was that wanted to hurt him. I'm practically as good as dead." I answered.
He took his time to process what I just said.
"Who is he, Maia?" he asked.
I told Uriah about Lucius.
"He is Lucius, the King Alpha of the Blood Moon pack." I said.
"Lucius? The scary alpha of the Blood Moon Pack?" he asked.
"You know him?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"I have heard rumors about how ruthless he is, those who have trespassed never made it out alive. I hate him. He took someone special away from me," he said, confessing his feelings.
I was left dumbfounded by what he said.
Were the rumors about my mate true? Was he really a ruthless monster?
Questions flooded my mind.
I was lost in my own thoughts that I failed to realize that the lighthouse was already surrounded by rogues.
"Shit!" I exclaimed.
I was about to block the light house door when one of them entered. Uriah stood up and motioned for me to be quiet. I stood at the corner as I watched him fight off the rogues. No matter how strong Uriah was, he was no match for three rogues.
"No!" I cried out when I saw Uriah fall to the floor.
The last thing I remembered was being injected with something before I slipped into oblivion.
