Chapter 34: Chapter 34
"LET'S sleep now?" Adam asked me when we got back to bed.
I smiled at him. "Yeah. Good night again, Adam."
We both lied down on the bed. But neither of us closed our eyes. Adam continued to look at me. Then he closed the distance between us and captured my lips.
My heart started to race frantically when our lips touched. I closed my eyes and let him kiss me.
But then my heart sank when Adam suddenly ended the kiss. Before he could see my disappointment, I already turned my back on him.
“Claire, what's wrong?”
I bit my lower lip. “Nothing, Adam.”
“No. There's something bothering you. What is it, sweetheart?”
I shut my eyes. “I… think I want to have sex with you,” I said in a small voice. Damn it. I couldn't believe I was admitting this to Adam.
I bit my lower lip. “I don’t know what is happening to me, Adam. Maybe because I'm pregnant and my hormones are acting up on me. They said pregnant women are always horny.”
I heard him clear his throat. "You want me tonight? Come on, look at me and answer, Claire."
Despite my cheeks burning up in shame, I forced myself to look at him. I swallowed the remaining pride left in me. "But of course, you can say no if you don't want to. I'm not asking you to have sex with me. I'm just being transparent with what I feel."
Adam touched my face and gently caressed my cheek. "Thanks for being honest with me, Claire. Stay here, okay? I'll be back."
My lips parted when he suddenly left the bed. "Where are you going, Adam? I said you don't need to—"
"I'll call your OB, Claire."
I blinked. "OB? Why would you suddenly call my doctor, Adam?"
His lips pursed. "I'll ask her if you're still safe to have sex."
"Huh?"
Adam looked at me, then down at my belly. "You're already five months pregnant, so I'm not quite sure if you're still fine to have sex. I don't want to hurt you, Claire. That's why I'm going to ask your OB right now, okay?"
I looked at him. "Is that the reason you stopped having sex with me? Because you thought I might get hurt?"
Adam sat beside me. Then gently, he cupped my face.
"You were seriously thinking of that, Claire?" he asked while looking straight at me.
I pursed my lips. "Well... I thought you didn't find me attractive anymore," I said in a low voice. “I thought... I thought you don't like me anymore."
He licked his lower lip and stifled a smile. “Sweetheart, you don’t know how many cold showers I've been taking the last few weeks.” His eyes were full of desire. “I will never get tired of making love with you. I’m just scared that I might hurt our baby…”
He planted a soft kiss on my forehead before he left the room. A few minutes later, he was back.
"Hi."
Before I could say anything, he had already cupped my face and captured my lips in a gentle kiss. He gave me butterfly kisses as his lips slowly traveled down to my neck.
"Hmm... did you manage to call my doctor?" I asked him between his kisses.
I let out a deep sigh when I felt Adam bite the skin of my neck.
"Yeah," he whispered in the hollow of my neck.
My hands traveled to his nape. I clung to him. "What... did she... say?"
“It’s fine to make love, but we have to be gentle, Claire.” He slightly pulled away from me to meet my eyes. We’ll take it slow, sweetheart. Okay?”
I swallowed hard. “Okay…”
I woke up with a smile on my face the next morning. I bit my lower lip when I remembered everything that happened last night.
Adam and I had slow and gentle sex last night. It was amazing.
I turned to the other side of the bed but didn't find Adam there. I saw that it was already nine in the morning.
I pursed my lips and got up from bed. I was sure Adam was already preparing breakfast outside.
But I didn't find Adam in the kitchen when I walked there. Instead, I found a note, together with a breakfast that he prepared for me.
Good morning, sweetheart. I’m sorry for not leaving you this early. I have an early meeting with Arthur and his cousin today. I didn't bother waking you up because I know you need to rest after last night. Call me after eating breakfast.
Adam
The smile on my face returned after reading his letter to me. I pulled up a seat and started eating the food in front of me. Adam had prepared me an omelet, pancakes, fresh fruits, and milk for breakfast.
“Claire.”
I decided to call Adam after I finished eating my breakfast. My heart automatically fluttered when I heard his voice on the other line.
Be still, heart...
“H-hi, Adam.”
"Did you eat breakfast?”
“Yup,” I answered. “How about you? Did you eat before you left?”
My cheeks heated up when the events of last night came back to me. I already missed his lips. My hand went to my burning cheeks.
“I only had coffee, Claire. I'll have breakfast with Arthur and his cousin. We're here in a restaurant."
"Oh. Am I disturbing you?" I asked when I heard Arthur's voice in the background.
"It's okay, Claire," Adam said. "We're still waiting for his cousin, anyway. He's running late."
"Oh. Okay." I pursed my lips. "Do you have anything else to do after that brunch?"
"We'll just visit a potential location for the shop, and then I'll go home afterward," he said. "Why did you ask? Do you want us to go outside after this?"
I pursed my lips. "Nah. Let's just stay here at home for today. I'll try to bake my own pineapple pie." During the past months, I tried to learn how to bake.
"Alright. Do you want me to bring you anything on my way home?"
I smiled. Just you and yourself, Adam. "Nah. Just go home safely, okay?"
He chuckled. "Alright. See you, sweetheart."
I bit my lower lip. "Bye, sweetheart." I said before I dropped the call.
My hand went to my chest while my other hand was clutching the phone. My heart was beating fast inside my chest.
But now… I think I already understand what it means…
I had already fallen in love with Adam.
