Chapter 20: Chapter 20

"CLAIRE, it's already twelve. Aren't you going to have lunch?"

I looked at Marcus, who had just entered my office.

"You really have a habit of barging into my office, Marcus." I said as I closed my laptop. I fixed the documents on my table.

I looked at my cousin, who opened the button of his coat before occupying the seat in front of me. "Well, your secretary isn't outside."

"It's because I asked her to buy me lunch outside."

"What?" His forehead creased. "I thought we were going to have lunch together?"

I pursed my lips. "I forgot to tell you, I can't go with you for lunch. I'll be watching Adam's competition." I glanced at my watch. "It's starting thirty minutes from now."

It's been three days since Adam left for Germany. When he called me yesterday, I found out that today is his schedule for the qualifying round of the competition.

I saw how Marcus' eyebrows rose. "Oh, you're being a supportive wife, aren't you?"

"Shut up. I just want to watch how good he is in that sport. I'm curious." This was going to be the first time that I would see him compete in motocross.

He looked around my office. "You even installed a TV screen for that, huh," he commented. His eyes were on the large TV screen on the wall. I had it installed yesterday.

"Just leave me alone and go grab your lunch, Marcus." I told him.

But before Marcus could stand up, my secretary had already entered my office. In her hands were the take out bag from the restaurant where I asked her to buy me my lunch.

"Oh, wow. You ordered way too much food."

Marcus nurtured when she saw the food on the center table. I was craving Chinese food that day, so I asked my secretary to go to my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city to buy me lunch.

There were dimsums, fried rice, spicy wonton noodles and spring rolls.

"Yeah," I said, pursing my lips. "Just grab some and go back to your office."

Marcus looked at me. "Why would I go back to my office? I'll just eat here with you."

Before I could answer, he had already taken one vacant couch and picked up one bowl of wonton noodles.

"Besides, I also wanted to watch how your husband is," he said, giving emphasis to the word "husband" as if teasing me.

I just shook my head before taking the seat across from him. Before I started eating, I picked up the remote control of the TV and opened it. I searched for the channel that Adam told me about yesterday.

"Wow, this is still so good, huh," Marcus commented when he started eating the plate of fried rice. "The last time I had this was already months ago."

"Shhh—" I told him when I finally noticed Adam on the screen. He was wearing a black and white motocross overall suit. He was also wearing a pair of riding boots together with elbow and knee pads.

He was talking to another man on the screen.

"That's your husband." Marcus muttered, his face was already on the screen.

"Yeah." I said, not removing my eyes from the wide TV screen in front of me.

Adam looked so hot in his motocross uniform. This was the first time I saw him in that outfit. I thought he was already gorgeous in his rugged look, but he was way hotter in that tight overall suit.

"Come on, Claire. Start eating. The food's getting cold." Marcus urged.

I cleared my throat and looked away from the screen. But after putting food on my plate, my eyes automatically went back to the screen.

"Are they going to race on that track?" I asked Marcus when the screen showed a dirty race track that was full of mounds.

"Yeah."

My eyes widened a fraction. "But that's dangerous."

"That's why motocross riding is a dangerous sport, Claire," Marcus nonchalantly said beside me.

I didn't have any knowledge about motocross, so I asked Marcus to explain the sport to me while we were eating.

"Hey, it's starting." Marcus said to me.

I looked at the screen and saw Adam already wearing his helmet. Then he slowly bumped hands with the man beside him before he went to his motorcycle. A minute later, the man blew a whistle and raised a flag, indicating the start of the race.

"Are you okay, Claire?"

I heard Marcus beside me, but I didn't answer him. My eyes were glued to the screen. I could suddenly feel my heart beating loudly inside my chest. I couldn't believe I was nervous right now. I couldn't even pick up my own food.

"Hey, what's happening, Claire?" Marcus continued to talk beside me. "You're sweating. Is there something wrong? Do you feel nauseous?"

I swallowed hard and shook my head. "I just need water."

Marcus immediately picked up a water bottle, opened it and handed it to me. "Here."

"Thanks, Marcus," I said, not looking at him. My eyes were still glued to the screen. My heart almost went to my throat when I saw Adam jump into a tall mound. His bike hung a few seconds in the air before it landed safely on the ground.

"Oh, thank God." I couldn't help but mutter when Adam did another trick and landed safely on the ground.

"Wait. Are you nervous about the race?" Marcus asked.

I bit my lower lip. "Who wouldn't be nervous? Motocross is a very dangerous sport." Now, we could no longer clearly see the race because the track was already filled with dust.

"Oh. Seems like you're really concerned about your husband, huh?"

I gave him a quick look. "Of course. He's the father of my child, Marcus. What kind of question is that?"

Marcus pursed his lips. "Stop worrying, Claire. Looks like your husband is really good at it. He's been doing great so far. See? He's dominating the race."

Yeah. He's one of the leading racers in—The bottle of water in my hand slipped when I saw Adam's motorcycle fall down on the track.
