Chapter 59: Chapter 59

Abhay’s P.O.V

Bracing my uninjured hand on the snow, I got up into a seated position and took a peak at my shoulder. The black wolf had dug through skin and bones and if I wasn’t mistaken, left one of its fangs embedded into my shoulder. But that was the least of my worries. The cold was making me numb, unable to feel the pain, and for now, that was a good thing.

I stood up on unsteady feet and immediately, blood gushed down my arm and soaked the sleeves of the coat to drip down onto the snow. And that was when I saw it. I saw my dream unfolding right in front of my eyes.

The blood dripping onto the snow. The gushing waters of the Jharna in front of me. And the plain soaked with blood behind.

“This is it.” I whispered to myself. This was how my life ended. This is what the heavens have been preparing me for through my dreams.

I turned back slowly, finally facing the battlefield and it wasn’t at all like my dreams. Yes, the field was soaked in blood, but it was also filled with the motionless bodies of the fallen wolves. And then my eyes went to my Firangi.

And to my horror, I found her on the ground, writing in pain. I didn’t have time to feel confused as to what had happened, because I saw the black wolf hurdling towards her with a limp to its movement.

What could I do? How could I help her? Till now, everything was as I had seen in my dream. But I wasn’t stupid enough to just fall to my death for nothing! I had to do something-anything to help Mink and protect my unborn child!

I looked behind me once again, watching the water churn at life-threatening force as it fell down the hill and that’s when something came to my mind.

Even in the face of certain death, I refused to surrender. Gasping for breath, I stumbled away from the edge, my body battered and broken, but my spirit unbroken. As the Alpha turned its attention towards Mink once again, I knew that my fight was far from over. Despite the pain, despite the odds stacked against me, I would not rest until the threat to my pack was vanquished once and for all.

I can't let her die like this. I can't let this end in tragedy. With a surge of adrenaline, I push myself to move, my muscles screaming in protest. Ignoring the pain, I reach for the discarded knife beside me, my fingers closing around the cold metal handle. I have to act fast.

With trembling hands, I take aim, my breath coming in ragged gasps. The other wolf is closing in on Mink, oblivious to the imminent threat behind him. I have only one chance, one shot at saving her.

As I stood there, in line of sight with the black furred wolf bounding towards my mate, a surge of rage and fear engulfed me. Every fiber of my being screamed with the realization that this moment was inevitable, that my fate was sealed. The wolf, its eyes gleaming with malice, began to charge at Mink once again, its snarls echoing in the air like a sinister symphony.

And just as it was about to reach for Mink, I shouted through the chaos, hoping that it was enough to distract him.

“Hey!” I called out. “I’m right here, you weak motherfucker! Can’t even kill a weak little human, can you?”

The wolf skidded to a halt, my words registering in its head as it turned around with a vicious growl. And that was when I let go of the knife in my hands, taking one last aim before I threw it with all my might.

The knife cut through the air with a whistling sound, and embedded itself into one of the eyes of the wolf. It bellowed in agony, falling to the ground as I saw Mink turn into her human form right behind him.

However, what I realized them made my blood freeze in my veins.

Mink was in labor. She was clutching her pregnant belly, her face contorted in agony as she tried not to scream.

No…my Firangi…our baby…

But despite all that, she tried to sit up, her eyes searching the area before they met mine.

“Abhay…” I saw her mouth the words to me before reaching out with her hands. “Abhay…”

However, my fight was far from over. Because the black wolf just refused to die despite taking two bullets and a dagger to an eyes.

Enraged beyond words, it stood on shaky feet and then started to run towards me once again. And that was exactly what I had wanted…to have the threat away from Mink and my unborn child.

In that split second, amidst the chaos and terror, my mind flashed back to Mink, her face etched with worry and love as she stood helplessly at a distance. I knew then, with a chilling certainty, that this was the moment I had seen in my dreams—the moment of my demise.

With a heavy heart and a sense of resignation, I turned towards Mink, my lips forming the words "I love you" as if to etch them into eternity. It was a silent farewell, a last testament to the love that had sustained me through the darkest of times.

But even as I uttered those words, the wolf leaped towards me, its jaws gaping wide to claim its prey. In a desperate bid to fight back, I instinctively reached out with both hands, grasping at the beast with a primal intensity.

The wolf's teeth sank into my shoulder once again, sending a searing pain coursing through my body. I cried out, a primal scream echoing in the wilderness as I felt myself being pulled back, back towards the Jharna—the very place where my journey had begun.

As I stumbled backwards, the weight of the wolf bearing down on me, I knew that this was the end. There was no escape, no reprieve from the cruel hand of fate. And yet, even in that moment of despair, there was a strange sense of peace—an acceptance of what was to come.

This had been my purpose in life all along. This was what I had meant to do, this was what the Moon Goddess had been trying to tell me…to save the life of my mate and my precious child.

‘Live well, my Princess.’ I bid farewell to the loves of my life as I stepped back from the ledge of the Jharna…and let gravity pull me down to my death. ‘Know that your father loved you. Know that your father loved you mother very much.’

As the darkness closed in around me, I closed my eyes, surrendering myself to the embrace of death. And in that final moment, as I fell down into the crushing waters of the Jharna, I knew that I had found my destiny—that I had fulfilled the prophecy written in the stars and with that realization, I let go, allowing the darkness to consume me, to claim me as its own.
