Chapter 31: Chapter 31

BLAIRE JUST got back to his office when he received a call from his secretary.

“Yes Rico?” He asked upon answering the phone.

“Sir, there was a commotion in the lobby. I’m afraid but I think you need to go down sir.” Leo said on the other line.

“What about our security guards? Can they not handle it?” Blaire said while his brows furrowed.

He is wondering why Rico was asking him to go down the lobby. If it is just a simple commotion, it’s their security guards duty to attend to it and his secretary knew that of all people! Well, not unless this was a different thing.

“About that sir, I received a call from them and they told me that your wife was in the lobby and----”

Upon hearing that he immediately disconnected the line. He did not even bother to let Rico finish what he was saying. He went down the lobby using his private elevator.

Claire was in the building? Why did she suddenly come unannounced? And she really chose to come today. Today, wherein there’s a lot of reporters because of the food fair festival. He can already imagine what kind of commotion was happening in the lobby that Rico was trying to say.

He was consistently looking on his watch. He felt that this was the longest seconds of his life! He will make sure that he will complain to this elevator’s company.

The moment he stepped out the elevator, he confirmed that he was right about what he was thinking about what this commotion is all about. There’s a lot of reporters surrounding Claire, they are throwing lots of questions and she was not even answering any of them.

He saw Claire being so pale and looking so uncomfortable with the situation. What’s gotten into her? She was used to handling ambush interviews like this and isn’t she used to love attention like this?

He was about to walk towards her when a woman blocked his way.

“I am so sorry Mr. Castillejo. I don’t really have an idea that she is your wife. She asked me to call you and I told her she needs an appointment first. Please sir, I’m so sorry. Don’t fire me.”

Blaire figured out that she is one of his employees. It seems that she’s one of the receptionists.

“I will really fire you if you will not let me go to my wife now!” He said authoritatively.

The woman immediately cleared the way for him. He continued walking towards the commotion with a clenched jaw.

“Who gave you permission to harass my wife?!” He said in a powerful voice which is good because he got everybody’s attention.

He looked at Claire and he saw some relief on her face upon seeing him. He tried his best to take her hand as reporters kept on throwing questions and flashing their cameras.

When he was able to hold Claire’s one hand, the security guards intervened and tried their best to protect them from the reporters. He looked at her and she was still pale. And as if on queue, Claire buried her face on his chest. He protectively wrapped his arms around her.

The reporters became more persistent in taking photos of them. “My wife is not feeling well. Sorry we cannot attend to your questions.” He said and started walking through the private elevator with Claire while the security guards blocked all the reporters.

When they finally reached the private elevator he checked on Claire immediately. She still looked so pale.

“Are you okay?” He said a little bit worried about her.

Claire looked at him and put a distance between their bodies. “I-I’m okay.” She whispered.

But he thinks that she was far from being okay. When they reached his office he immediately made some tea for both of them.

They are now both sitting on the couch.

“Drink some tea.” Blaire said and Claire followed robotically.

“Are you sure you are okay? I will ask my secretary to call the doctor.” Blaire said and was about to call Rico when Claire stopped him.

She was now holding his wrist. “I am okay Blaire, I was just surprised by the media.” She said and then let go of his wrist.

He stood up and looked into the outer view of his office. “You used to love getting their attention.” He told her.

“M-Maybe I just got tired of it.” Claire said.

He looked at her as she sipped on her tea.

“Then why are you here Claire?” He asked.

“Are you thinking that I went here just because I want to get their attention?” She asked and he could hear resentment from her voice.

He sighed deeply. Somehow he was guilty as charged, part of him was having a doubt about Claire’s intention of being here.

“I did not mean to sound that way.” He said sincerely.

“I went here because I was so worried. I need to tell you something.” She said seriously.

His brows furrowed. “I’m listening.” He said as his queue for her to go on.

“R-Remember when we went to the mall.” She started.

He nodded his head.

“I saw a man. A man in a cap, following us on that day. Then I saw that man again in the park. Then I saw him in the background awhile back, at your live interview.” Claire stated.

This is the reason why she acted differently when they were about to go home the last time they went in the park.

“I don’t believe that it was a coincidence, Blaire. I can feel that something was off. What if he was planning something bad to Zack, to you.” Claire continued.

And as he was looking at her being worried, he cursed himself silently. It was his fault. He was sure that she was talking about Leo. But something touches his heart because of the fact that she cared for him and for Zack.

He walked towards her. “Claire, I have to tell you something.”

“Are you listening to me Blaire? There was a man out there that we don’t even know why he was spying on us.” She was baffled.

Seeing Claire like this made him feel more guilty.

“Listen to me Claire, that man in a cap is Leo.” He revealed.

Claire was surprised by his revelation.

“You know him?” She asked and she looked confused.

Blaire sighed deeply. “He is one of my trusted men. He works for me.”

He does not know how to say it in a way that it may not sound like he was spying on Claire but she was clever enough to realize that and he was sure about that.

And he was guilty because that’s the truth. He was spying on her. Well, that was his initial plan. But lately, he was convinced that Claire’s recent actions were consistent and natural. She changed and he likes this new attitude of hers.

“Y-You… Did you just say that this man in a cap is your trusted man and… Oh! Gracious heaven! You are spying on me!” It was more of a statement than a question.

At first he saw some anger on her face and then the anger turned into pain. And he hates himself for causing her that pain.

“Claire, let me explain.” He pleaded.
