Chapter 22: Chapter 22

I stood up too as a shocked look came over my face, "That's really low of them, but of course, I only want my mate."

I smiled at him and he looked pleased as he walked around his desk to make his way to me. He stopped in front of me as he murmured, "And I want only you too, my one."

My cheeks heated up in a blush as my heart beat faster. His captivating dark eyes dropped to my lips for a few seconds before looking up to my eyes. He took my hand in his and intertwined our fingers, "Come on, cupcake. Let's go feed you."

"Okay." I replied as I walked with him to the door.

We arrived at the cafeteria and he walked with me towards Tess's table with her mate, William. I could hear everyone whisper as they saw us walking in together with our hands intertwined. I suddenly felt nervous as all eyes turned to us, but I felt a comforting squeeze on my hand which made me look at Sebastian. He looked at me with a smile tugging at his lips and he murmured, "Don't let them get to you, cupcake."

I nodded as I let out a breath, "Okay."

We reached Tess's table and the couple grinned when they saw us as they were both eating sandwiches. "Hello, Kat and Sir or should I say Alpha? You make the cafeteria exciting Everytime you come to eat here."

We sat down on the bench opposite them as I replied to her, "Hey, Tess."

Sebastian nodded at her as his smile turned into a smirk as he said in a teasing voice moving his dark eyes to me, "What can I say? I am very famous here."

We all chuckled at his joke and he looked pleased. I opened my mouth to speak when I heard my name being called. "Kat Mason!"

The three of them at the table and I turned to see an angry Heather heading towards me with her brows furrowed and her face red. The manager stopped at my table and her gaze immediately went to Sebastian and I's intertwined hands. She moved her gaze to Sebastian before settling it to me, "Kat Mason, where have you been all of today? Your desk has been empty since this morning and you have not done any work today. This shows how you are not serious and that you are unqualified to work at this company."

Before I could reply, Sebastian released my hand and stood up. Heather looked intimidated in an instant with him being over six feet tall and very muscular. Not to mention his rolled up sleeves that exposed his tattoos. A look of fear and nervousness showed on her face even before he spoke.

"Kat hasn't been at her desk since 8:30AM because I told her to come work at my office. She came here earlier than anyone at 7AM, had you come in early, you would have seen her. And you have no right to say that she is not serious or unqualified to work here since you are not the one that hired her."

Heather shook her head as embarrassment and anger washed over her features. She grappled for what to say as she tried to act like she was defending me, "But Sir, as her manager, I need to be sure that she is taking her work seriously so that she won't get fired."

His face looked even more stern as his lips tightened in anger and his jaw clenched,

"From what I'm seeing, manager, you're the one that's being unqualified to work here. You stormed in here, yelling her name and saying what you assumed without being sure just so you could embarrass her in front of everyone. You should be careful with how you manage your workers, manger."

Heather's face was now even redder from her anger and embarrassment. It was just as Sebastian has said, she wanted to embarrass me in front of everyone and show that I was unqualified to work here so that they would think that I was hired because I was seeing Sebastian. However, it turned on her and now, she was the one being embarrassed.

When he said his last sentence to her, it was as if she realized that he was the boss and that he could fire her at that instant if he wanted to. She nodded her head with a frown on her face,"I'm sorry, Sir. I will be careful next time."

She turned around and walked away towards the cafeteria doors as the whispers in the room increased. Sebastian sat back down and his face was pulled into a frown. My wolf and I felt sad about that and wanted to comfort him. So I touched his arm, bringing his attention to me, "Don't be angry, my mate. She has learnt her lesson and will not try this again."

The frown lifted from his brows and his lips twitched up into a small smile as he looked amused, "I should be the one comforting you, cupcake."

I smiled at him too, "I know, but I want to comfort you and thank you for standing up for me."

He placed his other hand on my hand that was on his arm and took it to intertwine our fingers, "You don't have to thank me, you're my mate, I'm supposed to defend you."

"And that was very epic!" William commented, taking our attention away from each other and to him. He had a large grin on his face and so did Tess as she said, "Yeah, it was! Everyone in the office is so tired of that manager watching us like a hawk and waiting for us to make a mistake so that she could embarrass us and have us fired. They must be so happy to see her being put in her place like that."

Sebastian looked pleased and amused at the same time, "Well, I'm glad that I could help and make all of you happy."

I nodded as I added, "People must really dislike her then."

Tess let out a small laugh as she shook her head, picking up her sandwich from her plate and taking a bite, "Oh, you have no idea. We can't stand her, she can be a real b*tch."

"Hello, Sir. What can I order for you from the cafeteria?" Amber's voice came from beside us and we turned to see her standing there with Caesar. They have been so quiet that we didn't even know when they had arrived there.
