Chapter 35: Chapter 35

Nothing makes sense at all. After the weird incident with that strange man and thinking about everything that had happened so far today, I looked at my watch and saw that it was now ten in the morning. I had so much to do today, so I quickly gathered all the things that I would need and headed out. My first stop was the mobile phone shop, where I bought a normal mobile phone as I didn't have much cash on me and I still had to go to the bank. I saved some money for food and as I was walking I saw a restaurant and thought about whether or not to have breakfast there. I decided to go ahead and while I was sitting here having breakfast I was searching on google, looking at nearby apartments. I was looking for an apartment that was close to my office , so that my commute wouldn't take too much time. There were some apartments I liked and decided to take a look at. After finishing my breakfast, my next stop was the bank and when I got there I took out the money I needed and set out to take a look at the apartments I had found.

The first apartment I went to was too big for me and the rent was way too high, so I refused to stay there. The next two places I went to were nice places, but the area around it was not worth living in, so I refused to stay in either of those places. Now there was only one place left for me to go and when I got there I immediately liked it, the rent was neither high nor low and I could pay it every month, the area was really nice too and so I decided that this was the right place for me. I decided that I would move in here after the party tonight, I didn’t have much luggage to bring with me, so it would be an easy move. The only luggage I had was a single bag filled with some of my clothes and essentials. I walked around the whole day, doing the same thing and I was really tired, so it was nice to just sit and relax in my new apartment. It was already evening and I had already decided not to bother with lunch and instead just have dinner. My phone started ringing and when I looked at the screen I saw that it was Lisa calling me, so I answered it.

“Hello, Lisa.” I said.

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY HELLO, SARA?” Lisa shouted down the phone at me and I had to move the phone away from my ear or I would have gone deaf. She sounded very angry for some reason.

“What happened? Calm down and tell me what happened? Why are you so angry?” I asked, panicking. Lisa knew I had a half day off so why was she shouting at me?

“It's seven in the evening. This party has been set up for you, but guess what you're not here and Mia and I are waiting for you.” Lisa replied and I rolled my eyes.

“Seriously? Don't worry, I will be there. You knew that I was going to look for an apartment today and I lost track of time. I'll be there in half an hour.” I said, but Lisa just told me to hurry and get there as soon as possible. I left my apartment and went back to my house, but when I got inside, there was still nobody here. I looked in every room and no one was here. Where have they disappeared to? I tried calling my dad, but he didn't answer and there was no use in calling Lucy because she never picked up the phone. I tried calling dad a few times and in the end I gave up. I went to my room and decided to not let it bother me, instead I was going to enjoy myself, so I picked out a nice party dress and got ready. My clothes were not expensive, but they were good enough for the party and I loved this red dress the most. I left my hair down and put on a little make-up. I had absolutely no desire to go to the party because Daniel would be there and I was afraid to see him again, but it wouldn't look very good if I didn't attend my own party. I grabbed my purse and mobile, went outside and grabbed a taxi after walking for a little bit and thankfully reached the office fifteen minutes later. As soon as I reached my department after entering the office building, I saw that the entire department was decorated in a very beautiful way. I was looking at everything with surprised eyes and could not believe how much money the office had spent on this party. It was always done for the big bosses because they used to take credit for the work done by people below their own rank.

"Sara!..." Lisa screamed, running madly towards me as usual. She came running and hugged her and Mia came at the same time. They both hugged me tightly and I hugged them back. They both were also wearing gowns and looked beautiful.

"Why are you so late? Have you forgotten that you promised me that you would get here within half an hour?" Lisa said, narrowing her eyes at me and Mia also agreed with her.

"We have been waiting for you since this morning. We knew you had to come in the evening, but we were waiting. I was going to get old waiting for you." Mia said and placed a hand on my shoulder, almost making me feel guilty.

“Okay, I am sorry, please forgive me for being late.” I replied and they both seemed to calm down. We started talking and they were asking me about my new apartment, what it looks like and other things.

“Well, come on tell me…..” Lisa said, but Mia and I both looked at her confused.

“I arranged a couple of taxis for both of you to take you back home after I left last night. Did you both reach home alright? There weren't any problems, was there?” Lisa asked and I lowered my eyes, but for some reason so did mia. This action did not go unnoticed by Lisa and she quickly turned her attention to mia.

“What happened? Mia you didn't make a mess did you? You did go home last night, didnt you?” Lisa asked, looking angrily at Mia and Mia nervously smiled at her. Mia was just about to reply to her when we were rudely interrupted by a group of women shamelessly talking about Daniel.

“Did you hear the CEO isnt coming to this party?” A woman said and I started to focus on what they were saying.

“Why isn't he coming?” Mia asked them, walking over to them and butting in on their conversation. I didn't talk to them, but I listened to what they were saying.

“Don't you know? This is the main news of the company and everyone is talking about it. A few hours ago the CEO’s grandfather died and he left the country. He won't be coming today.” The woman replied and Mia came back over to us. Lisa and Mia both looked sad to hear the news about Daniel's grandfather, but there was nothing that any of us could do about it. I looked up to Daniel's office and he wasn't there, he wasn't standing at his window like he normally was. I knew that the death of someone was very painful and I could understand what Daniel was going through because I lost my mom at a young age and it was a really bad time for me. The day my mother died my life took a turn for the worse and I saw the real face of my father. I wasn't feeling too good after hearing the news about Daniel and it made me want to leave, I looked around and saw that everyone was talking about daniel. They were all gossiping about how handsome he was and his numerous one night stands, but none of them seemed to care that Daniel was in pain at this time. They were all saying that he didn't like his grandfather and that he was glad that he was dead, they all seemed happy for Daniel after hearing his news. I don't know why though I felt something else, it was the first day that Daniel wasn’t here and I felt….I felt lonely. I looked again at his empty office and put my glass down on the table, telling Mia and Lisa that I was going home. I was only there for half an hour and I was already going. I went to the door just as my boss came in and stopped me.

“Sara, where are you going? The party has only just started, let's enjoy it.” The boss said, blocking my path.

“I am sorry sir, but I can't enjoy this. It doesn't feel right.” I replied and the boss looked at me, confused.

“What do you mean, Sara?” The boss asked me.

“If a person is suffering, how can I enjoy it at a time like this? I am sorry, but I can’t enjoy this.” I replied and took my leave from there. I came out of the department and tied my hair up with a rubber band, I took a tissue out of my purse and wiped away the make-up I had on. I don't know why, but after hearing about daniel, I felt dirty. He was the reason that everyone knew that I was the one behind the success of the project. I got money, credit and everything, but when I came to the party tonight I also became one of those people who are only behind his money and body. I walked out of the office and saw the news displayed on the big screen, it was all about daniel and his news was being spread everywhere. I looked at the ground and started to walk, thinking about the words he said to me last night, when suddenly I bumped into someone and when I looked up it was Daniel.

“Daniel?” I said, confused. I felt as if I was dreaming, everyone had said that he had left the country.

“Why did you leave the party so soon?” Daniel asked and I saw how red his eyes were. I knew that he had been crying and probably only just stopped, but his voice was different somehow and he didn't sound like he normally did.

“I didn't want to stay there. I thought you left the country. I heard about your grandfather and I am so sorry, how are you?” I said, unable to control my tears and looked down at the floor to hide them. I don't know why I was crying, but I didn't feel good about seeing Daniel in the state he was in. He seemed vulnerable. Daniel put his hand under my chin and lifted my head up so that I was looking at him and he smiled, wiping my tears away.

“Today is a big day in your life, Sara and i didnt want to leave without seeing you.” Daniel said, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me closer to him.

“I want to tell you something….it’s okay for you to be afraid of me, but when I come back I have a plan to change your life.” Daniel said and I put my hand on his chest. I don't know if it was out of fear or something else. What did he mean he was going to change my life?

“When I return I am going to change our life, but you have to wait for me.” Daniel said, making it sound as if he was going to be gone for a long time.

“Please wait for me….” Daniel said, leaning down and pressing his lips to mine. I clutched his coat tightly in fear, but I couldn't push his back. I don't know why, but I couldn't stop him.
