Chapter 12: Chapter 12

"Are you OK?" Louis asked, concern written all over his face.

"Yea I am", he said scratching the back of her head as she tried to remember what had happened, but her memory blurred, the only thing she remembered, was she walking in the hallway and could not remember the rest, finding it hard.

"What happened? Did Jasper attack you?" Ivan asked.

"I haven't seen him!" She replied calmly.

"Here, let me help you up," Ivan said, stretching his hand out; she held it and he pulled her up.

They all entered the room, Jasper was on the bed, lying on his back with no shirt on except his black pants; he folded his hands on his chest and seemed lifeless.

Ruth sat beside him, feeling his hands they were cold against hers, "Jas baby, Jas baby!" She exclaimed.

There was no response; he lay still as cold as ice.

Fear gripped her, as she placed her head on his chest, and felt his heart not beating.

Ruth lost it, and she began to cry.

"He's not breathing, his heart has stopped." She broke down in tears.

Ezekiel rushed forward to place his head on his chest.

"Ivan you're the medical student here, what should we do?" Ezekiel asked, he was scared but he tried hard not to show it.

Ivan turned to Danni, "Do you think you can find the first aid box?"

"Yes, I'll. My uncle that lived here was a home service doctor, I'll get the kits." She said rushing down to the master bedroom, searched inside the wardrobe and on the dresser. It wasn't there, she checked under the bed, it wasn't there either, and then checked on top of the wardrobe, where she found it with the other kits.

She grabbed it all, rushing out of the room to Jasper's, and dropped the kits on the dressing table beside the bed and stood back.

"Jas baby, don't leave me please, babes please come back to me, come back to us, I need you, please," she said burying her head on his shoulder. Crying hard, she raised her head to look at his face, caressing his cheeks, and kissed him lightly, whilst Ivan checked for a pulse, but he couldn't do anything to wake him, for a minute he felt confused. His heart beats faster, and became anxious. He turned to the rest of them.

And he said, "Jasper isn't dead, let's just hope whatever he's fighting, he would beat it and awake soon."

"How would you know that?" Louie queried.

"While I was checking for a pulse, his heart would beat fast for a minute and then beat slow," he explained, I don't know how I'm going to explain it that you'd understand, but when he wakes up, he should tell us what went wrong in his state of mind.

Stacie leaning on Louie left his side, hugging Ruth and patting her, and didn't know what to say to help her best friend. She imagined what she would do if it was Louie or her brother laying still and not waking up, hell, she'd die.

The friends stayed with Jasper in the room; Ivan suggested they talked about the good part of their lives to help in waking him.

Jasper was in a deep sleep for a while, after what he experienced at the lake. Still stunned he knew not why the ghost had chosen him to unravel the mystery of this cabin. Inside his mind, he disliked being here in the first place, but his best friends were, and had no choice. He remembered his mother had prayed for his safety, now he wasn’t sure if he and his friends were safe.

Elena Martins, Danni had mentioned her name before, and Jasper would ask her who she was later when he awakes. His eyes still closed like a dream, he felt like someone pushed him into the river and held down. Using all his efforts he struggled, trying to breathe but he couldn't. The might of the hand was drowning him, as he tried to breathe again, but it was futile. Thought of dying overcame him. His mind pictured Ruth and the rest of his friends. What would they tell his parent happened to him? He thought of his parents and sister Shania, whilst he tried to break free, but the other person gained the upper hand.

Through the force he felt himself sinking into the water. Jasper in desperation couldn’t think of anything else, as he felt his life ebbing. Death had faced him and just as it was about to hold him, someone pulled him out to the shore. After several minutes of chest beating and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, he spat out gulp of water.

Convulsing he couldn't believe Elena had help him, he tried to speak but he coughed.

"Hey, relax," she told him.

Breathing in and out, as he lay on the sand, wearing nothing but the pants.

"Who was trying to kill me?" he asked.

"My mother." Elena said.

"Why?" She asked.

"I don't know, if only I knew but hey time's running out, you have to save your friends and yourself." Elena said.

"I have to go back to the cabin," he said but "hey, why was I the one?"

"You're stronger than you think and you're not ignorant like your friends," Elena said.

"So what do I have to do?" He asked.

"Just find the book and destroy it." She said.

Just at the end of their conversation he woke up.

Ruth was holding his hand when he woke up. She hugged him tight, tears running down her face.

"You scared me babe," she said as he hugged her back, cupping her face in his palms, and brushed a strand of hair from her head, tucking it back behind her ear, and kissed her.

"I'm here baby, I'm here." He said.

"Hey man, how you feeling?" Ivan asked, taking a seat by his side.

"I'm feeling heavy, my head is banging" he replied and chuckled slightly.

We were scared, very scared, and thought you were going to die Stacie said. Leaving Louie side she went to hug him, and Danni hugged him too.

"Hey guys I'm fine, I'm not going to die," he said.

"Its good to have you back," both Louie and Patrick said at the same time.

Ruth hesitated not to explain what happened to her at the hallway.

"You still remember not what happened?" He asked, while stroking her hair with his fingers.

She nods her head in a way to say she remembered not anything.

He heaved a sigh of relief, “What happened to you?" He asked folding his arms and resting his back on the chair, Ezekiel patiently waited for Jasper's explanation.

Jasper sighed hard, "I wanted to rest for a little while and I felt myself drowning, like in a dream, and someone wanted to drown me. I saw not the person’s face, but I saw the face of my rescuer who I knew not."

He refused to tell the story of what happened earlier in the morning when he took a walk to the lake.

His explanation made no sense; it confused everybody and himself.
