Chapter 10: Chapter 10

"Guys, guys, we can’t just stand here forever." She said and threw her hands up in frustration.

Ruth who said nothing all through the ride down to Lakewood had already lost her patience.

"Ugh!" She grunted.

"Danni can you lead the way inside please? I’m tired and I need to pee. If y’all want to stay out, fine!" She said.

At the same time, she took her duffel bag and box and walked up to the door.

“Let’s grab our stuff and go in," Danni said, scurrying past everyone to unlock the door.

As soon as they all entered the house, the stench of dust hit them hard, the house felt cold.

"I can’t find the switch she exclaimed. Oh, okay, I got it," Ruth said, feeling excited by it.

The house was tidy;no dust everywhere, as if someone had cleaned it since nobody expected them to come or who could have been expecting them?.

"Whoa!" Stacie exclaimed.

"Let’s get settled then, we should pick our rooms," said Ezekiel, he picked up his box and followed his girlfriend, they all followed Danni.

Ruth who was behind her friends felt a cold chill run down her spine, goose bumps appeared on her skin; she folded her arms and hugged herself. Looking back everything seemed normal, and so she shrugged the feeling off.

"We'll take this room by the right, it’s facing outside," Ivan said.

He pulled his boyfriend playfully, and holding his waist, he asked, "Baby, you like this room, yeah?"

Still holding on to him he nibbled on his ears.

Patrick’s reply came out as a whisper, "Yes baby, we going to fuck all night." He smiled sheepishly; whilst Ivan brought his face closer and kissed him softly on the lips.

Ruth and Jasper took the room facing Ivan’s; Louie and Stacie’s room was beside the door leading to the basement, while Ezekiel and Danni stayed in Danni’s room.

That night, the students stayed in their chosen rooms, skipping dinner and feeding on whatever junks they brought along with them. The house felt chilly, and unbeknown to them, there was a secret lurking around. Danni knew little of it, and since none of her family at home knew she went on a trip to the cabin at Lakewood, there was no way she could protect her friends and herself.

She lived with her parents who were very wealthy, and had no time for her. Justin her elder brother lived in Calabasas, with his girlfriend and daughter, Mila. He left her alone to deal with her personal problems.

Her grandfather who owned the cabin now lived at the care center for the old. Grandfather Martins had told his son, Darius (Danielle's father) to let him stay at the care center since his wife died after they left the cabin. He alone knew the story of the cabin and the secret lurked around this place, and he never had the chance to destroy the notes to put the cabin up for auction.

His hope was no one would ever visit the cabin again, after what happened to him and his wife a calamity, which befell them. He wished nothing of sort would happen to someone else.

Above all Gabriel Martins was happy that his three children didn’t come across the notes, he wondered what would have become of them, would they have ended up like him or in a psychiatric home. The thought gave him joy; his children and grandchildren would be safe. But Danielle had entered a trap, and wasn't safe anymore if only she knew that the worse was about to happen.
