Chapter 43: Chapter 43
It was like an illusion, so unreal that I had to scrub my eyes and pinch myself so hard that my flesh bled. I was breathing heavily while watching Blake transform into his vampire nature in readiness to fight them. He was really going to kill anyone who touched me, including his fellow vampires.
I felt angry at myself for putting the ring he gave me on my necklace instead of wearing it as a ring over my finger as I had always done. Maybe these men won't have recognized me with it.
Now he is about to attack his clan hunters back.
The thought of this made me burst into an intense sob with my hand clutching my lips to muffle it.
I began trembling, not from fear or panic, but this time, it was from an overwhelming emotion swelling inside of me.
I know Blake loves me, but this is too much. He was breaking the rules and going against his family just to protect me.
My gaze was drawn to the vampire hunters, who were now cowering in bewilderment and popped eyes. They were all dumb and short on words. It must have been a shock for them to see the man they call prince; the same man who will rule the clan in the future, challenging them to a fight solely because of me.
"Blake, are you out of your mind?!!" The leader yelled in an outburst of rage mixed with fear as he gritted his teeth, clenching both fists and breathing heavily.
"I think I am. Yes, I am out of my mind and that's why I won't spare a single one of you from here!" Blake grunted, his voice so deep and intense this time that it could strike horror into the soul directly.
"You will kill us because of her? Are you mad!! What has come over you! She must use charm on you. That devil behind you is using fetish charm on you!" The red-haired vampire bawled in frustration, glaring at me with the most hateful eyes I had ever seen in my life.
"Who did you just call a devil?" Blake's voice thundered and seemed to shake the ground as it shot fear into everyone.
They all cowered, but the red haired vampire made no movement as he appeared extremely exasperated at everything happening. I was like a prey item in his eyes, which he had vowed to devour. Just the way his eyes darken when they rest on me tells us so well how much he would devour me once given the chance.
"That dirty thing behind you is the devil who has blinded and turned you stupid. You are clearly a fool now. Just so you know... kill us for a werewolf, bastard!" Everyone froze as those words blurted out of his mouth.
"Come get her if you can, not barking around like a mad dog," Blake scoffed, lowering his head to the ground then tracing it to me.
Our eyes met, and I could see how pained he was. Something seemed to be eating deep into him.
"We'd all rather die in your hands than watch you take her into our clan. She is an enemy and a curse on our land. As the clan hunters, our responsibility is to make sure no predator gets in. You can go ahead and kill us just for a she wolf!" I heard the leader of the hunters burst into an intense scream, which made Blake turn sharply towards them.
"Alright. At first, I never planned to let any of you leave here alive. Come and attack me" he breathed, for real. Right in front of my eyes, the fight began.
All I could do was cry as my body shook in panic. I clutched my body and buried my face in my laps, not being able to bear the sight of Blake fighting his clan members for me. It was giving me chills. It was bringing endless tears to my eyes.
His sacrifice is now making me recall my dead parents. The only people who had shown me what love was... Now that they were gone, everything about love vanished from my life, only for Blake to appear in my life like a reincarnate of them.
My parents died because they were trying to find a way to save me, Blake is here fighting the people who wanted to kill me, not minding that they were his fellow.
The slashing of skin and the screech of pain followed by cracking bones was all that filled my ears. I clearly heard the heavy breath of Blake and the thudding of his heart.
"I will do anything for you. That's my promise..."
I heard Blake's voice right inside my heart, and that forced a smile out of my gloomy face. It made me recall his calling me "mine" when we were back at the school in my pack. Could it be that I am his mate?
That is what it seems like, because I keep feeling his emotions inside me. Whenever our skin connects, I feel the shivers, I feel that electrifying effect of a mate. The peace and confidence my heart feels whenever he is close to me was so overwhelming that I craved to be with him every second of my life.
I don't know what trick the moon goddess is playing!
Do vampires believe in the mood goddess? Does she control their fate too?
I don't know what is happening or what my fate will be in this future. It just seemed like I had begun a scary journey from which I couldn't escape. Where would it end at? Just like a forbidden fruit that tastes so sweet but is poisonous to the belly.
My eyes ached as more hot tears formed and poured down to my chest. Slowly and gradually, all the noise died down. The fight was over, but I had no courage to look up. Guilt was slipping inside me and making me sob. I wish all this had never happened from the beginning.
Maybe I shouldn't have saved Blake when he crept into my room.
"Then he would be dead now, or would be made a slave with deadly poison injected into his body, running through his vein and inflicting excruciating and heart wrenching pain into him all the days of his life" my little wolf spoke out, with a deep sigh of sadness and it seemed like I got back to my senses.
Oh gosh!
How could I let Blake pass through such misery when he never hurt any of my pack members? Who would love me now that Torian rejected me?
"Let's go," he said at that point, and I finally lifted my head and looked up at him.
He saw my tears and smiled sweetly. Those kinds of smiles come along only once or twice in a lifetime.A smile that tells how much you are loved and desired. Not even his eyes could hide the passion and affection. He was staring at me as if I were his entire world, a look I had seen my father give my mother.
Yes, when they realize they are fated and destined by the moon goddess, they share that stare.
"They are all dead, so you are safe. No one knows your true identity now. I can take you to the Royal House. My mother can only recognize you as my mate if she sees the pearl ring. Now that it is off your neck as a pendant, she can't." He explained, still maintaining a reassuring smile while I glanced at the dead bodies around us.
He stretched out his hand for me to take in, and I quickly took it. Gently, like I was a fragile egg, he pulled me up with his other hand, supporting me, taking extreme caution not to hurt me.
"I know I saved you in the past, but you have saved me too just now. Don't you think it is a tie now and I have to go back to my pack rather than endangering you with my presence around?" I mumbled, and he laughed for the first time since we came here.
That laugh sounds like a melodious song.
"Why are you laughing?" I couldn't hold back asking. He paused and drew me closer to his body till I was clearly resting on him while our faces stayed half an inch apart. His inviting lips were touching mine, and I was suddenly feeling the greatest urge to kiss him, forgetting all that was happening.
"I want you because you are mine. My mother called you my fated one. Yes, she foresaw it with the necklace I gave you. It doesn't matter who you are. What matters is that you are the chosen one to stand beside me, under my protection, and you know what? You are the one to sit with me on that throne as my queen!" He cooed, his tone as sweet as what words can't describe.
Shudders ran through me with goosebumps spreading all over my skin. My legs jerked at the chills running through me. There was something so special about those words he just said, and as his eyes locked with mine, I felt calmness inside my heart.
I didn't just know when I wrapped my hand around his head and pulled him into a deep kiss, devouring his soft and sexy lips, which was so sweet and satisfying. My eyes shut while I was drowning in pleasure. The enticing sensation running through me was the best thing I had ever felt in my life.
He took my hand and put his pearl ring back on my third left finger without breaking the kiss, but just then, something shocking arose inside me.
I broke the kiss instantly as the trigger became intense.
My brows arched in confusion as the strange feelings I was experiencing suddenly appeared familiar, like something I had felt in the past.
"What is wrong?" Are you alright?" He shot in fear and concern, his gaze fixed on my face.
Beads of sweat were forming on my forehead, and I was breathing heavily.
"Lola, how are you feeling? What is wrong?" Blake's voice sounded again, but this time it sounded faint yet sharp enough to resonate inside me.
He held my hands softly.
"Open your eyes and tell me how you are feeling? Please?" He bawled, and the craving for blood rushed in. My muscles seemed to be tugging and bulging.
"I can feel that beast here! Lola, you are a hybrid. You are also a vampire" Those were the words I heard from my inner wolf before my eyes shut open.
The first person my eyes saw was Blake, who I was leaning on, and for the first time ever, my wolf and something else screamed that word. "Our Mate"
"What happened? You fainted in panic? What...."
"Mate..." I mumbled as his sweet earthly and heartwarming smell spread around me, forcing a smile from my lips.
He chuckled in excitement.
"You found out too?" He asked with a grin, caressing my hair as I nodded.
"I will take you to a trusted friend to stay till I find how to hide your wolf nature so you can live with me in that royal chamber." He laughed happily and I found myself laughing too.
