Chapter 8: Chapter 8
With an expression of enduring pain and fear, that demon crawled away from Jonathan. He could no longer survive because in his heart there was already a little blood from the Hunters that made him in pain.
Jonathan still set a cold expression as he watched his partner crawl away from him. He violently stood up and kicked the demon until it crashed into the wall.
"Ugh! You're a traitor! So you've been the one-"The demon coughed violently while spewing black liquid from his mouth.
Iris and Tommy were horrified to see them. Because the black liquid didn't just come out of his mouth. But also out of the eyes like tears.
"Die quickly, buddy."
Jonathan immediately stuck the bottle filled with blood into his partner's chest. Iris and Tommy were wide-eyed in surprise and they quickly fled when the demon suddenly woke up and ran aimlessly.
She immediately ran away in fear while taking cover under the table. It was the first time she saw how the devil died before her eyes. And even worse, she saw Tommy there just sitting quietly looking at the demon-like he was watching a show.
"Tommy! What are you doing?! Come here, you idiot!" Iris shrieked for him. Tommy turned and saw her like a mouse under the table.
"What are you doing?" He asked with astonishment. Iris rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"You're not taking cover? What if he explodes?"
"What? Do you think your blood is radioactive waste? How could it explode!" Tommy shouted in an annoyed but also frustrated mood.
"Oh really?" Iris got out and crawled out from under the table.
The struggling demon just now stopped screaming in pain and stood up with its body slowly flying to dust.
Her eyes widened as soon as she came out from under the table and witnessed the most phenomenal event. Her mouth opened and closed in silence.
"Oh... my... god... I'm sure the forensics team will have a hard time examining the body."
Tommy shook his head. He tried to stand up and look for another demon figure. He couldn't believe that the demon killed his comrade.
And where did he get the bottle of Iris' blood from? Tommy didn't want to bother thinking about why that could be. He immediately looked for the whereabouts of his knife to protect himself.
"Iris! Get out of here!" Tommy shouted telling her to get out of the apartment.
"O-okay!"
But before she could run out of the kitchen, Jonathan with a blink of an eye was standing in front of her. Startled, she immediately backed away slowly.
"Iris!" Tommy shouted.
"I-I didn't kill your friend, okay? You killed him yourself..." Iris said with a frightened squeak like a cornered rat.
When her eyes saw the knife she had used before on the table, she immediately took it.
"Get away from me!"
Jonathan sighed again. Today, he could be involved in a ridiculous incident that was the first time he had experienced in his life. Iris he had met in this period had such a unique trait.
He stepped closer to her, but the panicked her sliced her palm with a knife and pointed it at him.
"Stay away... My blood isn't radioactive, but you can melt if you touch this blood." She said trying to scare him.
Tommy rubbed his face with the palm of his hand several times. It felt like he wants to let her be eaten by the devil but so pity because she was too stupid.
"I've killed him. You must remember your promise, Ana. We will meet again." Jonathan whispered and just walked away like nothing happened.
Tommy from the living room, who didn't hear anything, stood up like a dazed person. What was happening just now seemed to force him to think.
Iris was even as speechless with her mouth open and blood dripping from her hand to the floor.
"What happened?" Tommy asked as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
But when Iris woke up from her shock, she immediately panicked because her hands were already covered in blood. Tommy immediately helped her to stop the bleeding from the wound on her hand.
After ten minutes of waiting inside, she found it very strange when not a single police officer showed up.
"I'm curious about the police work out there. What are they doing out there? Watching the circus?" She asked. She heard the sound of police sirens shortly after Jonathan left.
Tommy smiled a little as he rested his body on the refrigerator door.
"Now, do you believe in the existence of demons?" Tommy asked.
Iris didn't say anything and looked around her apartment. She found her mother's body in her room. Her body condition was as terrible as her father's.
She immediately pulled the blanket to cover her mother's body and then returned to the living room. It is undeniable that she is alone on this earth without any biological family she knows.
"Why can my blood kill demons like them? I still don't understand... And all this, it's still too hard for me to accept."
The atmosphere inside her apartment was chaotic. Tommy, who was hurt, just looked at her with condolences. The deaths of Iris's parents should have been prevented if they had known of her whereabouts earlier.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't save your parents." Tommy said that he could not deny the fact that he was only a weak human who fought hard against the devil.
Not long after, the apartment door opened and Eva appeared along with a woman with black hair.
"Tommy! Are you alright? Iris? Your hands!" Eva panicked while the woman immediately checked the condition of Tommy's body.
"I-I'm fine... Thank you." Iris replied with mixed feelings. She also saw Tommy moaning a little as she pressed against his back.
"Good, Iris. I'm relieved to hear that." Eva said, relieved. She then looked at Tommy with a very worried feeling. "How about him, Shane?" She asked again.
The black-haired woman who turned out to be named Shane smiled as she shook her head slowly.
"His rib is cracked. Lucky it didn't break." Shane said, making them all relieved.
Eva immediately stood up and checked the condition of the apartment. She saw a little mountain of dust in the living room which she knew for sure was the demon the two of them were fighting.
"It's a good thing we found Iris first. Looks like they've been waiting for her to come back to the apartment too." She said, which made Iris shudder in horror.
"S-so... they also know I'm here?" Shane looked directly at her.
"Unfortunately, that's the way it is supposed to be." She said also looking at the mountain of ash.
Tommy clutched his chest as he tried to sit back against the wall after Shane checked his body.
Iris held her head while chuckling. More precisely, laughing whether to be grateful or not after surviving the ambush of the demons.
"All of this is driving me crazy. I can't even cry for my parents because this incident made me think endlessly." She mumbled frightened and lost her way.
Eva rubbed her face as if everything she saw was just sadness.
"Shane, bring Tommy and Iris back to base. I'll take care of some things here."
