Chapter 79: Chapter 79
“Oh my goodness! You are not serious, Val.” Susan gasped in shock with her jaw dropped.
Valerie sighed sadly. “Honestly, Susan, I really don't know how to show myself again in that house. I mean, I saw the sincerity in Nicole's eyes but…”
“You are not to blame, Valerie. It's a good thing you told him the truth about how you feel about him, or do you love him?” Susan raised her brows.
She sniffed. “The truth is, I don't even know whether I have feelings for him or not. I've never thought about that, that was the reason when he popped the question up I was so confused.”
“What are you going to do now?” Susan inquired.
“He left the house early in the morning, and he's not back yet. I know that he must be very upset and disappointed, but I just also hope that he understands me. No one in my predicament would want to fall in love.” Valerie shook her head.
“You know you can always come back to the house if you feel uncomfortable staying at Nicole's, right?” Susan held her hand and she smiled.
“Thank you so much, Susan. I was so much in need of someone to talk to, and you came through, even if you had many things to do.” Valerie replied.
Susan grabbed her glass of tonic water and sipped. “What are friends for? As long as it has to do with you, I'll always do my best to be available. Why don't you come back to the apartment?”
“That would have been a great idea, but I just can't leave Nicole right now. I don't want this to ruin the friendship we had for years now.” Valerie snapped.
They were still chatting when Valerie's phone rang aloud. She picked it up, it was Nicole calling.
“Hey, Nicole. Where are you? It's already…” Valerie asked.
A voice interrupted her, making her pause immediately. “Is this Valerie on the phone?”
“Yes… Yes. Who is this? Why do you have Nicole's phone with you?” Valerie inquired.
The voice from the other end continued. “This is Doctor Francis from St. Patrick's Hospital. The owner of this phone was rushed to the hospital a few minutes ago. This was the last number he dialed, that's why we called.”
A gasp escaped Valerie's lips, and she covered her mouth with her palm. “What? What happened to him? Is he okay?”
“He got into an accident, and was rushed here.” The doctor continued.
“Okay, doctor. Hold on, I'll be right there.” Valerie hung the call-up and jerked up immediately.
Susan, who was confused at Valerie's reaction, quickly asked. “What's the matter, Valerie? What happened to Nicole?”
“The doctor just called me, he got into an accident and was rushed to the hospital. I think he got drunk.” Valerie cried out, rushing into the room.
A few minutes later, a cab dropped Valerie and Susan right in front of the hospital. They rushed into the hospital immediately. Valerie walked to the counter. “Hello, nurse. I'm here to see an accident victim that was rushed to this hospital a few minutes ago.”
The nurse nodded her head, and flipped the pages of the diary in front of her before replying. “He's in the emergency room. You'll have to see the doctor.”
Tears circulated in Valerie's eyes. She would never forgive herself if anything bad happened to Nicole. She was the reason he became depressed and got drunk. Furthermore, she was still lost in thoughts when the door of the emergency room was opened and the doctor walked out. They jerked up from the couch immediately.
“Doctor! Doctor, how is he?” They chorused.
The doctor took off his nose mask, and said. “He lost a lot of blood, but you have nothing to worry about. He didn't hit his head or break any bones.”
“You mean after the blood transfusion, he'll be alright?” Valerie anxiously asked.
“Yes. By the way, are you his wife?”
“No!” They chorused.
Heaving a sigh, the doctor nodded. “Okay. Follow me to the office.”
Meanwhile, Audrey, who was already unconscious, was rushed to the hospital. With a stretcher, she was taken into the ward. President Ethan paced around restlessly.
“Fish powder? Who the hell dares to get my daughter killed? That stupid nanny, she has worked barely 2 days, and my daughter's life is already in danger?” He kept mumbling.
President Ethan was still talking to himself when he suddenly paused on hearing two nurses' conversation.
“Mr. Nicole Sebastian in private ward 20, have you seen his wife? Oh my God! She's so beautiful, even if I think she's limping slightly.” One of them started.
“I wish he's not married yet, he's too handsome.” The other replied.
“I don't mind being a concubine.” They shared a laugh.
Ethan gulped hard. “Nicole Sebastian? Wife?”
Without hesitation, Ethan walked towards the private ward section. He got to the room, and surprisingly, no one stopped him. He walked into the room.
To his greatest surprise, he saw Valerie sitting close to an unconscious Nicole and holding his hand passionately.
He was raged and engulfed in jealousy. Without a second thought, he rushed to Valerie and slapped her hand off Nicole's.
“President Ethan?” Valerie gasped in shock.
He didn't let her speak before interrupting her. “Why are you holding him in such a manner?”
“He got into an accident. Why are you here?”
“Why do you always like hurting me? Who said you can hold any other guy?” Ethan blurted out.
Valerie puckered her brows. “What?”
“Don't you get it? I like you, Valerie.”
