Chapter 64: Chapter 64
Valerie glared at him, confused. She was still lying on his chest while he was on the ground. His grip became firmer, as if she were going to run away if he let her go.
“Sir, you're drunk. I think you need to go to bed.” Valerie managed to say.
President Ethan coughed a little and snapped. “I'm not drunk, I know what I'm saying and what I'm saying is that you just can't turn Nicole down, can you? Is it because he's your lover? Huh?”
“Lover?” Valerie blinked her eyes rapidly.
“Are you going to deny it? Do you know how I feel each time I see you holding on to him like he was your savior? Oh, you won't know, right?” Ethan shook his head, and struggled up.
However, Valerie was able to release herself from his grip. She still couldn't wrap her head around what the President meant. Does he think she's having an affair with Nicole? But that's not true! Even if it is, what does it have to do with him?
Ethan staggered towards the sitting room, and Valerie aided him to sit on a couch.
After helping him sit, she grabbed his suitcase that was lying on the table. “Sir, I'll drop this before retiring to bed.”
She turned to leave, but suddenly Ethan grabbed her arm. “You can't… you can't leave me, Valerie.” He groaned.
Staring at his face, Valerie could see how serious he was even if he was drunk.
“Does he have feelings for me? Shake it off, Valerie! That's not possible.”
“Sir?” She raised her brows.
“I hate to say it, but I've always prayed that I'll never have a soft spot for anyone after her. She… she was my everything but death… death took her away.” He lamented as he grabbed the glass of whiskey and gulped all the content down.
“She? Who is she?” Valerie asked curiously.
Ethan forced a smile and pointed at the bottle of dry gin on the table beside the bar. “Get a glass and get that bottle, Valerie.”
Reluctantly, curious, Valerie walked to the table and brought the bottle. She took a glass with her.
“What are you doing, Valerie? Should you even drink with him? Have you forgotten you get drunk easily?”
She thought within herself, but she just wanted to hear what the President had to say. “I'll just drink a glass or half. That won't get me drunk.”
With that, she walked to the living room and dropped the bottle and glass. Sitting beside Ethan, she filled the glass with gin and sipped a little.
Ethan, on the other hand, filled his glass and gulped it down instantly.
“Sir, you were saying something about her. Who is she? Is she Audrey's mother?”
Ethan snorted. “Audrey's mother? No way! I wish she was, but if wishes were horses…”
Taking a deep breath, Valerie sipped the gin again. For some reason, she was beginning to enjoy it. “So, who is Audrey's mother?”
“I don't know… I don't really know” Ethan laughed dryly with tears in his eyes.
Valerie has never been so confused in her life. How is it possible for Audrey's father not to know her mother? Is he really her father?
“You… you don't know? I apologize for being so inquisitive, but how come you don't know her mother? Does that mean that she's not really your daughter?” Valerie asked. She was already beginning to feel tipsy.
Ethan turned sharply at her. “No! She's my daughter. My blood… my blood runs through her veins. She's my freaking biological daughter, don't you dare say she's not.”
“I'm… I'm sorry, Sir.” Valerie stuttered.
Valerie wanted to ask him why he didn't know her mother, but she stopped herself, seeing how furious he was when she made the last statement.
There was silence between them, and Valerie didn't stop drinking and drinking. In a few minutes, she was already drunk.
“Valerie?” Ethan called, smiling crazily at her. She raised her head with a faint smile.
Valerie belched. “Yes, sir? Don't you want to drink some more?”
“You silly girl! You are drunk, and you can't stop belching, crazy.” Ethan laughed as if he weren't as drunk as she was.
“Cheers!” Valerie clinked her glass to Ethan's as she gulped down the drink.
Meanwhile, Ethan kept staring at her, smiling crazily. Suddenly, he grabbed her by the waist and whispered. “We should seal the night with a kiss, shouldn't we?”
Valerie laughed. “Yes, we should.”
Their lips drew closer to each other, and just when they were about to kiss, Valerie felt sleepy and fell into Ethan's arms.
Staring at her, Ethan smiled calmly. He cuddled her in his arms, and before he knew it, he fell asleep as well.
…
The next morning, at Davison's villa, a flashy car drove into the compound. The car door was flung open, and Rebecca walked in. She was dressed in a sophisticated outfit as she walked into the mansion.
“Good morning, ma'am.” The servants chorused, but she only glared at them and walked away. They were already used to it, so they continued their chores.
She walked straight to the sitting room. “Hey! Get me a glass of tonic water.” She snapped her finger at one of the servants, who nodded her head in agreement and rushed out to get what she was ordered.
Walking into the sitting room, Rebecca's eyes caught with the suitcase on the table. She approached the table and what she saw made her stagger backwards.
President Ethan and Valerie fast asleep, cuddling each other like love birds.
A tear dropped from her eyes.
