Chapter 79: Chapter 79

“Olivia?” She whispered as soon as she saw her daughter. She was so sad for the past few days that she did not come to visit her. but she knew her daughter. She knew that she must have been caught up in something. Otherwise, there was no way she would not have come to visit her, especially after her surgery.

“Mom, how are you feeling?” Olivia sat down beside her and kissed her cheek. Her mom seemed healthier than before. Mary said that she had been eating well. She had gotten sick the previous day, but the nurse had made sure to take care of her. Olivia felt like her heart would explode with pain. She was not there with her mom when she got sick.

“I’m okay, darling. How have you been?” She asked her instead. Olivia smiled. There she was asking about her when her health was not in good shape. She had just had her surgery.

“I am fine, mom. Did you miss me?” She asked with a smile. She wanted to make some jokes so she would not ask her why she was absent in the last week. As much as she wanted to share bout her miserable life with her mom, she could not. She did not want to worry her mom.

“I have missed you a lot, yet I know that you must have a lot of responsibilities there.” She smiled as Olivia tries to sit her up. She leaned against the headboard and smiled at her lovingly.

That was what mattered. Her mom smiling and being happy.

They heard a knock then. Thomas entered the room looking as charming as ever. He was dressed in a mint button-down shirt and cream pants. Her heart skipped a beat as she saw him enter with his pretty smile. Her mom’s smile widened.

“Thomas. Come here.” She patted the spot next to her on the bed. Olivia stood up to give him space. Thomas went to sit beside her while Olivia stood there.

“How are you feeling, Mrs. Anderson?” He asked politely to which Amelia scoffed.

“What did I say about calling me Mrs. Anderson?” She asked with a fake frown. Thomas laughed.

“Mom.” He said with a soft tone. Olivia detected something in his tone. She felt the tone to be like how she talked about her dad. The same pain…

“That’s right. Olivia, go and see if the lunch is ready.” Her mom said with a warm smile. She nodded and left the room. She wanted space at that moment. Being reminded of her father made her anxious again. It reminded her that Thomas hated her father. He would also hate her if she knew that she was the one because of whom her father had rushed that day.

She hated herself whenever she analyzed the situation. If she had not forced her dad that day to attend the event, not only her dad would have been alive but Thomas’s parents as well.

She felt like she could not breathe. She was the sole reason behind everything.

She went to the kitchen to see if the lunch was prepared. Thomas had hired a house helper the other day for her mom, so Olivia did not have to worry about the house chores. He gave particular instructions about Amelia’s diet to the maid. Olivia was a bit relieved but she was also guilty. He was doing so much for her mom. All she did was complain to him about how he made her life miserable.

“Is the lunch ready?” She asked the maid who was busy making some salad for her mom.

“Yes. It is ready.” She replied politely. Olivia nodded and began to set the table with an absent mind. Her mind was occupied again.

She went to invite them for lunch when she overheard her name being mentioned.

“I know. Olivia is taking care of me so much. I feel guilty sometimes. I feel like I am not giving her the same energy. I am trying though. Being deprived of my parents at a young age made me deprived of love as well. I do not know how it feels like to be loved or love someone. Although I do love her a lot, I do not know how to express it.” He said with so much sincerity that she felt like he was telling the truth.

He was holding Amelia’s hand and caressing it while telling her mom all that. He looked like a lost little boy.

Olivia bit her lip as she heard them and saw the scene before her. the door was slightly ajar. They did not notice her while she stood there thinking about what he had just said.

He was not that expressive and he certainly did not have to pretend to say all those things to her mom. Why was he doing it then?

“You will figure your way out, Thomas. Olivia’s father was so serious all the time when we first got married. Then, he began to open up. I know you will do that as well. Olivia has a kind and loving nature. She would understand and you both will figure it out.” She said with her kind and gentle tone.

“I knew that you would give me wonderful advice.” He said with a chuckle. She laughed as well.

Leave it to her mom to give the best advice.

“I am glad I can do that. That is why you come and visit me every other day, huh? You do not come to see how I am doing. Rather, you come to have a relaxing time.” She laughed teasing him. Olivia stood there shocked to the core.

Did he visit her mom frequently? And he did not tell her about it neither did he take her with him.

She was dying to meet her mom and talk to her, but he was the one visiting her and leaving her alone. She was getting angry again.

She was happy and all that he visited her. but he could have at least told her about it. He could have told her that her mom was doing alright at the very least. He was beyond her understanding.

Why he did what he did, she could never understand.

She opened the door, “The lunch is ready.” She said not looking at him. He helped her mom get up and helped her to the dining table. Amelia could walk now. She was so happy to see that. The doctor had told her that she could take some time to heal before she could walk by herself.

He made her sit on the chair while Amelia went to the kitchen to bring the plates and the lunch. The house-help had prepared lasagna for them and some soup and salad for Amelia. She was still in the kitchen when she saw him enter.

“Is everything alright?” He leaned back against the counter and folded his arms. He was looking at her inquisitively.

“Why wouldn’t it be?” She said shrugging and picking up the plates, about to go out. Before she could do that, she was stopped. He grabbed her hand to turn her around. The plates were about to smash on the floor because she was caught off guard.

“What the hell, Thomas?” She said as she held the plates tightly. He just smiled and grabbed the plates from her hands, putting them on the counter.

“What’s wrong?” He asked. She was confused at first about the context of his question.

“Why are you so quiet?” he asked with concern. He was still holding her hand. For some reason, she was also letting him.

“What do you mean?” She pretended not to know what he was talking about.

“Earlier when I was talking to your mom and when you returned, you were all quiet and deep in thoughts. Is everything alright?” He asked again. This time, he tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. She had tied her hair in a ponytail. She felt it—his touch.

“Everything is alright.” She said trying to put some distance between them. Whenever he was that close, she could not think properly. He blocked her way though.

He turned her around so now she was the one leaning against the counter and he was caging her by putting both of his hands around her, on the counter. She looked up to find him staring at her face as if he was searching for something there.

“You will not tell me what is bothering you, huh?” He asked in a mock menacing voice. She bit her lips to keep herself from laughing. His expression seemed so funny at that moment.

“You are being a bad, bad girl. You will see my wrath.” He threatened again. God, it was so hard to keep the laughter bubble inside. He was making that funny plus serious expression. She felt like he was on the verge of bursting into laughter.

“Let me bite you for being a rude girl.” He said and pretended to bite off her nose when she shrieked. He made everything so real that she almost thought he would bite off her nose. She let out a high-pitched chuckle while putting both of his hands on his chest to stop him. She felt that his heart was beating fast.

She looked at him and met his eyes. They were smiling at her. She kept staring into them.

“You have been a bad, bad girl. You know that?” he whispered as he brought his face closer to hers. Her stomach somersaulted as he kept coming closer and closer.

She got the idea that he was not joking this time. His eyes had turned intense.

“You are driving me crazy.” He uttered with a breathy tone as he brought his face closer to her neck to get a whiff of her scent. She felt him take a deep intake of breath. Her heart was pounding inside her chest.

“Thomas?” She did not know what to say, so she called his name. he was busy feeling her.

“Hmm.” He let out as he grabbed her waist from behind and pulled her closer. She was as close to him as one could get. Her legs felt like jelly.

“I—” He did not even let her finish as he put her lips on her neck, gently, like a peck. She took a sharp intake of breath as she felt her body shiver.

He then looked into her eyes. he was staring so intensely. She felt like her lungs would fail anytime soon. His eyes darted toward her lips and stayed there.

‘Oh, my God!’ She thought he was going to kiss her.

He was going to do just that. He was so lost that he could not even remember where they were. Nothing mattered. The only thing that mattered was that she was in his arms. He was craving to have her so close to him. Now that he had her, he was not going to stop.

He took her face in her hands and brought her lips closer to hers. His own heart was beating wildly. He saw her close her eyes as she fisted her hands by her sides.

His plans were out a full-stop on though.

“Olivia ma’am, your mother is asking—” The maid entered the kitchen interrupting their heated moment. They quickly separated from one another as they heard her let out a gasp and quickly utter an apology before disappearing.

Olivia’s face turned red. Thomas chuckled seeing her face.

“We will continue this at home.” It sounded like a promise as h grabbed the plates and stood beside her.

He did not leave before kissing her red and warm cheek. It was her this time who let out a gasp.

She saw him wink at her before exiting the kitchen.

What did he mean by continuing this at home? Did he want to continue the discussion about what was bothering her or continue their little moment they had a while ago?

She hoped it was the latter!
