Chapter 67: Chapter 67
“Fuck! My head is killing me.” Thomas grunted clutching his head tightly. It felt like someone was piercing different sides of his head with needles. He could not believe he had drunk so much that he was feeling that way. He had a lot of alcohol tolerance, so it was strange to feel that way. He must have drunk tons of bottles.
“Bastard, I had to carry all your weight the previous night. You can imagine how much you had drunk.” Mike informed bitterly as he remembered his back pain the night after he threw him on the bed. He was sitting on the chair while Thomas was glaring at him from his bed.
He did not have the strength to go to his place, so he stayed. Besides, he felt so sleepy.
“Will you shut up?” Thomas spat. His head was truly acting strange. He was never this hungover.
Mike brought his forefinger and thumb together and made a motion with his hands as if he was zipping his lips. He knew he was not in the mood to take his sarcasm at that moment.
He let him take his time while he played with his phone. He knew that he needed time. After that, he would talk to himself.
That was exactly what happened.
“Listen. Did I receive any calls?” He asked Mike after a few minutes. He did not even know where his phone was. He knew Mike must have put it somewhere. Mike turned around to give him a good stare.
“What?” He asked annoyed. Mike shook his head.
“Is there any girl in your life that I am unaware of? Be honest.” He asked in all his seriousness. He was indeed serious. He had never seen Thomas so wasted and drunk over a girl. He could not wrap his mind around that fact.
Thomas looked at him like he had lost his mind.
“What the fuck do you wanna say?” He spat again. He knew he was being rude, but he was getting on his nerves at that moment. All he did was ask if he had received any calls or not. He wanted to know if anyone was worried about him. And by anyone, he wanted to know if she cared.
But what did Mike mean? What girl? Why was he asking about it all of a sudden?
“Thomas, you were blabbering about why she did it to you. Who did what? Who is the ‘she’ you were talking about?” Mike did not think beating around the bush was a good idea, so he got straight to the point.
Thomas sighed leaning back. He did not think he would be such a fool to do that. But he was drunk. He did not remember anything he had said the other night.
“No one.” He said shortly. Mike shook his head. He knew he was hiding something.
“If you don’t want to share, that’s okay I guess.” He said as he got up from the couch. He was not in the mood to talk, so he thought he would have to leave him alone.
“Sit.” Thomas rolled his eyes as he saw his dramatic ass get up and wear his shirt appearing to leave.
Yes. He was shirtless. He was always shirtless when he slept. They slept together a lot, so he knew about his habit. They did not sleep together “literally” though. Just the thought of him that way horrified his senses to the core.
Mike sat down without a word. He knew he was getting ready to feed him with the details. Mike was trying to control his smirk.
He sighed again. Thomas did not know how to put his thoughts into words. He did not know why her rejection had made him feel like such a miserable person.
“I am confused about my relationship with Olivia.” He said coming to the point directly. Mike looked at him with confusion. He did not know what he was talking about.
“I don’t know why but I don’t feel like I take her just as my contracted partner who I have to part ways with after nine months. I don’t know what it is, but that is how I am feeling.” He said taking a deep breath. His eyes and head hurt, so he started massaging them.
“What do you mean? How did you conclude that there is more?” He asked curiously. Out of every girl that had been in his life, Mike never thought that it would be Olivia he was drinking over.
“I don’t know. At first, I thought that I have been used to her presence, but I started feeling like I wanted her in my space. When she was away, I had this urge to go after her and talk to her, feel her presence around me, and look at her. I have this feeling that it is not just a habit of seeing her. I want to see her. I want to be surrounded by her presence.” He said honestly. He loved her company although they used to argue a lot. There were a hell lot of differences in their opinions and perceptions. Still, he enjoyed every bit of time with her.
Mike looked at him with such a ridiculous expression that he wanted to smack him. Really.
He got up and sat beside him on the bed. He brought his hand to his face making Thomas glare at him. He touched his forehead with his hand which Thomas smacked away.
“What the fuck?” He reacted, looking at him absurdly.
“Are you okay? Are you sick?” Mike asked with wide eyes as if he was really surprised.
“What the hell does that even mean?” He asked him. Sometimes, Mike acted so stupidly. There he was sharing his conflicted emotions, which was hard for him to do, and he was acting weird.
“Are you in love with her?” Mike asked being serious again. Thomas looked at him with a horrified expression. He then started to laugh loudly.
He could not believe he would make such a ridiculous perception about him. He was the friend that knew him well. He could not believe that he would be the one making that assumption out of all people.
“Are you out of your mind?” Thomas asked him once his laughter subsided. Mike scoffed.
“I should be the one saying that. It was not me who was crying over a girl last night.” Mike smirked at Thomas who was glaring at him. He knew he did not do any of the bullshit he was telling him. He would not cry over a girl. Damn! That was one thing he was sure he would not do even if the world was ending and that was the last chance, he could stop the world from collapsing.
“Jokes aside, you have feelings for her.” He concluded like a wise philosopher that he was not.
“Get out.” He said irritated to no end. He did not want him there. His head was killing him. He was confused. His ego was bruised. And there he was making big revelations about his feelings. He did not have feelings for her, and that was all.
“Very good, my friend. Nice way to thank me after what I did for you last night.” He complained but got up nonetheless. He had to go to work. He was a co-producer and a businessman at the same time. He always wanted to become a movie producer. He was a junior in the field but was already making a print. That was why he got promoted from an assistant to the rank of co-producer within two years. That was why he was out of the country most of the time.
Sometimes, Thomas envied him. At least, his friend got to do what he liked. They had even planned to work together on a movie. Thomas was to produce music for the movie where Mike was the producer. Some things just remain unfulfilled wishes.
“Listen. I owe you for last night.” He said as Mike was about to leave. He gave him an accusing look.
“Sure, you do!” He gave him an accusing look again and shook his head as he turned the doorknob. Thomas regretted being nice to him. That bastard knew how to get on his nerves.
“Oh. I almost forgot.” He said stopping in his tracks. Thomas looked at him with a look that screamed ‘Now what?’
“She called.” He informed. Thomas’s heart skipped a beat. He did not know if he was talking about her or not. But something told him she was the one. He still gave him a confused look just to be sure that he was not mistaken.
“Olivia. She called on your phone. She sounded worried. I told her you are alright. Call her.” He said in all seriousness and left him alone with his thoughts.
He was so happy to know that she worried about him. But within the span of a moment, it changed. His feelings changed from a happy one to a bitter one. She must have just wanted to know where he was. It did not mean that his absence bothered her.
‘But why would she call if she was not bothered?’ He asked himself but shook his head.
She had made it clear that she did not want to have any stuff happen between them. Why was he pushing himself to the limit where his ego would be bruised again and again? No girl had ever rejected him before. He was not used to being put into his place. She was the only girl who had done that again and again. He could not understand his heart at all. He could not get why he still wanted to call her.
He should not. He had promised himself that he would not bother her again, so why was he having second thoughts?
He got up to make some coffee for himself. He would not bother her anymore. He had decided it.
And that bastard Mike had to mess up his thoughts even more. Love? Pfft! He was not and never would be in love with anyone. Not with her. Not with anyone else. It was not him. He was not made for "love" shit and all. It was just an infatuation he felt towards her, and that was all.
After nine months, they would go their separate ways. They would have to just be distant from one another. It was not difficult at all, was it?
